In the late 80s, twelve-year-old boys Tim Wheeler (b. January 4, 1977) and Mark Hamilton (b. March 21, 1977) still preferred to drive football when they suddenly discovered the world of music. Hooked on the work of "Iron Maiden", they divided the guitar and bass between themselves and organized a tribute team "Vietnam". In the early 90s, when the grunge star rose, the group broke up, and Tim and Mark, who were influenced by the songs of Nirvana and local punks Lazer-Gun Nun, organized a new project, Ash.

The summer of 1992 turned out to be hot for the guys - they dangled with concerts between Downpatrick and Belfast and at the same time managed to record about 50 songs. Having cut several demos that had local success, the guys realized that in their native outback they could not break out into people, and tried to ship their tapes to London.

In 1994, their first single "Jack names the planets" was released, picked up by Radio One, after which Ash signed a contract with Infectious Records. In the same year, the band did a couple of UK tours, shot to the top of the indie charts with the singles "Petrol" and "Uncle Pat" and released the EP "Trailer". In 1995, the guys finally finished school and now the lessons did not interfere with their favorite pastime. After a couple of hit singles, "Kung Fu" and "Girl from Mars", they went on a world tour, leaving trashed hotel rooms and broken hearts of female fans in their wake.

In 1996, Ash closed in the studio for three months under the supervision of producer Owen Morris, resulting in their debut feature, 1977. The album, which came at the height of Britpop, broke into the top of the national charts, and photos of the musicians graced the covers of magazines such as Smash Hits and NME. The next few months the band spent in intensive tours, in the middle of which the guitarist Charlotte Hatherley appeared in the lineup.

Although the band continued to smash hit singles, work on their second studio album was difficult. Wheeler had a creative crisis, and, in addition, the matter was complicated by problems with the producers. One way or another, but in the fall of 1998, Nu-Clear Sounds was released. The album, in contrast to its predecessor, turned out to be heavier and darker, which plunged Ash fans into bewilderment. The musicians themselves were also at a loss and decided to take a break from their activities. Tim fled to New York, where he started filming some kind of blood-and-drug video, while the others returned home to contemplate the future.

In 2000, the four got together again and went to sunny Spain to record their third opus. This time it was much more fun and the album turned out just right. Accompanied by the hits "Shining light" and "Burn baby burn", "Fallen all angels" rushed to the top of the charts, dropping Janet Jackson from there. A slightly less successful follow-up, Meltdown, followed in 2004, and the following year, the band contributed to the Republic Commando soundtrack. The beginning of 2006 was marked by the departure of Charlotte, and Ash returned to the trio format again.

What is "Esh"? Literally, what is that word? Everything is very simple - it means "fire" in Hebrew. Why from Hebrew - yes, because Igor Nadezhdin, a pianist and organizer of the group, lived in Israel for a long time, where the idea to form a team playing Brazil Jazz was born. And such an opportunity appeared only when several people from different cities and countries met in Moscow, and at the end of 2002 the group gave their first concert at the Oracle of the Divine Bottle club.

What kind of music is “Esh” playing? This is not quite a bossa nova in the classic sense of the word. Rather, it is a combination of jazz, samba and a bit of latin funk. And, of course, the group plays bossa nova. The repertoire includes arrangements of songs by A. K. Jobim, and many of them are completely unknown in Russia, Brazilian classics, as well as songs of his own composition in Portuguese.

And now a little about the composition of the group. This, of course, vocals, piano (or keyboards), bass, drums and percussion. From time to time, a saxophone also joins the ensemble.
