Biography

South Korean actor and rapper So Ji Sub was born on November 4, 1977 in Seoul. Despite the fact that Ji Sub is a highly sought-after actor, popular with both young viewers and the older generation, he never dreamed of becoming a celebrity. The desire to earn money led the taciturn young man to the world of cinema. However, acting was so fascinated by Ji Sub that he decided to devote himself to this profession. He starred in serials, was a host and guest on various shows, but at the same time remained an ordinary actor. Popularity and fame came to him unexpectedly, almost 10 years after his debut, and since then, with each new project, Ji Sub only confirms and strengthens his star status.

During his school years, Ji Sub was an uncommunicative child. In the classroom, he always sat at the last desk. At that time, he was only interested in hip-hop music and swimming. Ji Sub paid special attention to the latter, dreaming of becoming a professional swimmer in the future.

In 1995, Ji Sub was chosen as the model for STORM jeans. As the artist himself admitted, the reason why he went into the modeling business was the desire to see Kim Sung Jae, his favorite hip-hop artist, who at that time also represented this brand. In addition, according to Ji Sub, being a model, one could easily and quickly earn good money.

In 1996, Ji Sub received a small role in the comedy series Three Guys and Three Girls. But his official debut as an actor took place the following year, in 1997, in the series "Model", where he played the role of Sung Kyung-chul. Also in 1997, he appeared on Saturday Power Start: Oh Happy Day.

In 1998, Ji Sub starred in the 316th episode of Best Theater titled "Precious Memories". In the same year, he played the role of Chul Min in the TV series I Hate You, But It's Fine.

1999 and 2000 were Ji Sub's time for TV shows. During these two years, he has appeared on Joy Super Sunday TV: Let's Go Dream Team, Show Express, Sunday Sunday Night (in the Shin Dong Yup's Fateful Drama segment), TV Entertainment Tonight, Good Friends", "Beautiful Life: Crossing the Korea Strait". In addition, in 1999, Ji Sub hosted 'Declaration of Freedom Today is Saturday' and '결정 Inkigayo 43'. Also, in 1999 and 2000, Ji Sub co-hosted the weekly music chart "Music Camp".

In 2000, Ji Sub, in addition to his entertainment activities, continued his acting path, starring in a total of six TV series. The first was the role of Oh Chul Soo in the episode “Miss Hip-hop & Mr. Rock" series "Love Story". She was followed by the role of Kyung Min in the episode "Have You Ever Said 'I Love You'?" weekly series "Best Theater". Further, the list of his works was replenished with the series "Wang Rung's Land", "Because of You", "Joa, Joa" and "Cheers for the Women". In the same year, Ji Sub won Best New Actor at the SBS Drama Awards for his roles in Joa, Joa and Cheers for the Women.

In 2001, Ji Sub starred in the series The Long Way, Delicious Proposal, and Law Firm, playing the lead roles in them. This year added another victory to his “piggy bank” of awards, but this time not for acting, but for modeling achievements: at the 2001 Fashion Model Awards, Ji Sub became the winner in the “Ms. & Mr. Davidoff Award.

In 2002, the actor starred in the series We Dating and Shoes for Cinderella, and also made his debut on the big screen in the comedy Steal If You Can. Among these three projects, “Shoes for Cinderella” was the most successful with viewers, and Ji Sub’s popularity began to rise at that time.

Ji Sub's only project in 2003 was the series A Thousand Years of Love, where he played a dual role: General Ari (during the Joseon era) and fashion designer Kang In Chul (in the 2000s). Two roles in the same series earned Ji Sub two wins at the 2003 SBS Drama Awards for "Top 10 Stars" and "Excellence Award, Actor in a Special Planning Drama".

In 2004, Ji Sub starred in the series Memories of Bali and I'm Sorry I Love You. Both series were an incredible success with the audience. And if in "Memories of Bali" most of the glory went to the performer of the first male lead Jo In Sung, then "I'm sorry, I love you" is a series, the mere mention of which is immediately associated with the name of Ji Sub. According to its plot, having miraculously survived a shootout at the wedding of his girlfriend, Moo Hyuk (Ji Sub) returns from America to Korea, where he was once abandoned by his own mother. At home, he learns that all this time his mother lived a happy, luxurious life and raised another son - Choi Yun (Jong Kyung Ho), a popular singer in Korea. Resentment at the injustice of life makes him hate everything and everyone in this world. But only until his fate is closely intertwined with Song Eun Chae (Im Soo Jung), who is in love with his new brother. The words and deeds of the main characters trigger a chain of events that lead to an unpredictable ending. The touching love story won the hearts of viewers not only in Korea, but also far beyond its borders: in 2006, "I'm Sorry, I Love You" was broadcast with equal success in Japan and the Philippines, and in 2008 - in Thailand. In Korea, in 2004, the series brought Ji Sub a victory at the KBS Drama Awards in 4 categories: "Best Couple Award" (together with Im Soo Jung), "Netizen Award", "Popularity Award" and "Excellence Award, Actor". In the same year, Ji Sub won the Most Popular Actor (TV) award at the 40th Baeksang Arts Awards for his performance in Bali Memories.

In 2005, Ji Sub won another award for "I'm Sorry, I Love You" at the 41st Baeksang Arts Awards for "Best Actor (TV)". In February of that year, at the height of his popularity, Ji Sub enlisted in the military. After 26 months, on April 27, 2007, Ji Sub was discharged from the Mapo District Office where he served. More than 1,000 fans came to the military unit to greet their favorite actor and congratulate him on the end of his service.

In 2008, Ji Sub starred in the mini-series Centerfold and also returned to the big screen in the Japanese fantasy horror film Kitaro: The Millennium Curse and the Korean action film Unedited Movie. The latter tells the story of gangster Gang Bae (Ji Sub) who dreams of becoming an actor. By chance, he meets his longtime idol Soo Ta (Kang Ji Hwan), who invites him to play the role of his opponent in his new film. Gan Bae agrees, but on the condition that all the fight scenes are real. Satisfied with a successful deal, Su Ta may soon regret such a rash decision. Ji Sub and his co-star, Kang Ji Hwan, were not only part of the filming process, but also its investors, as due to the film's low budget, filming could be disrupted. Such a risky step on the part of the actors paid off: "The Raw Film" grossed more than 7 million US dollars at the box office, and in total it was watched by more than 1 million viewers. In addition, in 2008, the film brought Ji Sub two more awards: in the nominations "Best Actor" (at the 28th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards) and "Best New Actor" (at the 29th Blue Dragon Film Awards). Another achievement of the actor was the victory in the category "Best Jeanist, International Category" at the 25th Best Jeanist Awards.

In 2009, Ji Sub starred in the Korean-Chinese film Sophie's Revenge, and starred in the Japanese mini-series I am GHOST and the Korean TV series Cain and Abel. He has a good job, a beloved family and a girlfriend, and an envying and jealous older brother Seong-woo, whose feelings are fueled by their mother's hatred. Ji Sub recorded a dramatic version of the song "Foolish Love" with Choi Hyun Joong (of V.O.S). The role of Cho In brought Ji Sub 4 awards in 2009: "Best Actor" (at the 22nd Grimae Awards), "Actor of the Year in Broadcasting" (at the 2009 Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), "Top 10 Stars" and "Top Excellence Award, Actor" (at the 2009 SBS Drama Awards). In the same year, Ji Sub won "Best Dressed" at the 18th Buil Film Awards and received 4 more awards for his role in "Unedited Film": "Best New Actor, Film" (at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards), " Rising Star Asia Award" (at the 8th New York Asian Film Festival) and "Best New Actor" (at the 10th Busan Film Critics Awards and 18th Buil Film Awards).

The photo essay entered the bestseller list 10 days after going on sale. One day, he meets Jung Hwa (Han Hyo Joo), a blind girl who often came to "watch" TV shows with her former watchman. Cheol Min and Jung Hwa fall in love with each other. However, Chul Min soon finds out, which is part of the reason Jung Hwa went blind. Hoping to restore her sight, he goes with her to the hospital, where the doctors tell them that Jung Hwa has a chance to see the world around him again. In online cinemas, tickets for the film premiere were sold out in a record 7 seconds. In 2011, Always opened the Busan International Film Festival. For all the time at the box office, the film has collected more than 6 million US dollars. In the same year, the role of Chul Min earned Ji Sub the Grand Prize (Daesang) for Acting in Film nomination at the 19th Korean Culture and Entertainment Awards. One day, he learns that Tae Gong Shil (Gong Hyo Jin), a girl who works at the same company, can see ghosts. Joon-won decides to use her gift for his own benefit, but slowly begins to fall in love with her. Starting from a high position, the series, throughout the entire period of broadcast, maintained a high rating. "Lord of the Sun" was a success not only in Korea, but also in Japan, the Philippines, Singapore in 2014, and in Indonesia, Tamil Nadu and the United Arab Emirates in 2015. This low velvety voice will drive even the most sophisticated listener crazy. In one interview, this abs man said, "My life is hip-hop and swimming." And even though today So Ji Sub is no longer the king of swimming, acting and music fully reveal his talents.

Listing the entire filmography of Ji Sub can be quite a long time. Of the most famous works - "A delightful offer", "Lord of the sun", "Only you", "Oh my Venus". His acting talent is undeniable, because each role reveals a personality from a new side. It's even scary to think what a deep world is inside these 180 centimeters and 70 kilograms of beauty. Thanks to his appearance, which is not quite typical for "Korean opps", So Ji Sub stands out and is remembered. And in his interviews, he talks about the fact that in life he is rather modest and even slightly boring. Well, a little self-criticism in character doesn't hurt, because there shouldn't be too perfect people.

In addition to acting, Ji Sub is into photography and looks for inspiration in small things that many would not pay attention to. And of course, hip-hop has not disappeared from the life of this Korean talent. When an opportunity arises not only to listen to music, but also to create it, it is difficult not to take advantage of this chance. And So Ji Sub began to record music tracks: lyrical and dynamic, of course, not forgetting the "dark" hip-hop. A couple of clips below to make the atmosphere hotter ...

When a person with taste takes up the matter, then everything is simply “doomed” to success. Ji Sub's music is quite diverse, but it literally exudes quality, taste and style, every note, every pause, every sound of the melody is saturated. Compositions can be put on repeat and experience a variety of emotions at the behest of the conqueror of the connection between music and the human soul.

Why do some make their way to the top, while others go with the flow? A person constantly has situations when you can betray a dream ... But how important it is to remain faithful to your destiny! Then fate will surely give a chance to prove themselves. So Ji Sub loved music, it helped him not to give up when the devastation from the impossibility of changing something made him give up ... But if you can endure, then this is not the limit. If you go, then sooner or later you can get on the right path. When So Ji Sub was at the top, he could be content with acting and rest on his laurels while enjoying the love of the public. But the passion for music took over. This is how melodies and lyrics appeared, which, perhaps, right now inspire someone with a desire to go forward and fight for a happy future.
