Patricia Kaas

Patricia Kaas (fr. Patricia Kaas). She was born on December 5, 1966 in Forbach, Moselle department, France. French pop singer, actress. Representative of France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 (8th place).

Father - Joseph (Joseph) Kaas, a Germano-Taringian with French citizenship, a miner.

Has five brothers and one sister.

Kaas grew up in Stieren-Wandel, between Vorbach and Saarbrücken. Until the age of six, she spoke only the German dialect Platt (Saarländischer Dialekt). Kaas's Franco-German ancestry was the reason for her ongoing interest in improving relations between the two countries.

From an early age, her mother encouraged Patricia's passion for singing. At the age of eight, she was already singing songs by Sylvie Vartan, Dalida, Claude Francois and Mireille Mathieu, as well as English-language songs such as "New York, New York". The first big success came to her when she received a prize in a song contest.

From an early age, Patricia sang with her characteristic "hoarse" voice, which would then be compared with the voice and.

Patricia Kaas took her first step into the professional music business at the age of 13 when, with the help of her brother Egon, she signed with the Saarbrücken club Rumpelkammer. She took on the pseudonym "Pady Pax".

In her youth, she experienced a difficult drama: she buried her mother and father, whom she loved very much. Patricia later said: “This is the saddest moment in my life. But time goes by, everything passes. One day I realized that I had been in mourning for my parents for too long, I was running away from a sense of loss. I didn’t just keep my mother’s wedding ring - I wore it on my hand. This the gesture personified my connection with her. It was only years later that I decided to take it off." Mother died of cancer. A teddy bear - a gift from Kaas to his mother - today accompanies Kaas everywhere as a talisman.

At the age of 16, the girl accepted an invitation from a modeling agency in Metz. Kaas makes the first attempts to break into the music business, which, however, lead to nothing: the producers believed that the world did not need a second one.

However, finally, the producer was found - it was the architect Bernard Schwotz. It is he who will lead Patricia Kaas to her first great successes. In 1985, 19-year-old Kaas found a sponsor in French actor Gerard Depardieu. He noticed the singer in the Saarbrücken "Rumpelkammer", and introduced her to songwriter François Bernheim. Bernheim worked with her and, convinced of her talent, recommended Depardieu to sponsor her.

Gerard Depardieu sponsored Kaas' first single "Jalouse" (Russian for "Jealous"), the lyrics to which were written by Bernheim and Depardieu's wife Elisabeth. The single was released by EMI but was a flop. Nevertheless, working with Depardieu was one of the most important events in the beginning of Kaas' artistic career.

After the release of "Jalouse", French composer and poet Didier Barbelivien became Kaas' new songwriter. His song "Mademoiselle chante le blues" (literally: "Mademoiselle sings the blues") became the singer's first major hit. The recording was released by Polydor in December 1987. The song took 14th place in the French hit parade.

The following year Kaas released his second single, "D'Allemagne" (literally: "From Germany"). The words were written by Barbelivien and Burnham.

On January 18, 1988, Kaas' first album was released. "Mademoiselle chante le blues". Kaas even referred to them as "her family".

This album repeated the success of "Mademoiselle chante le blues", becoming "diamond". On the song "Kennedy Rose" Kaas again worked with Elisabeth Depardieu and Francois Burnheim. The song was dedicated to Rose Kennedy, mother of the American president.

Personal life of Patricia Kaas:

Even in her youth, doctors diagnosed her with infertility, so she knew that she would not be able to have children. Perhaps this was one of the reasons why Patricia did not marry.

At one time she loved very much, but refused to marry him. "With Delon ... He is like a father, but at the same time a lover, although he did not become one in the full sense of the word. There was so much love and tenderness between us! And this is more important than being his hundred and first wife or woman. I, of course , I don’t want to offend those great women who appeared in Alain’s life, but we have our own story with him. It was a game of a seducer. I loved him, but didn’t go further. Even despite the fact that all my friends told me: “You got off crazy!". You see, I'm from a miner's family, and to find myself in front of a great actor, the great Alain Delon ... Or maybe it's all about my character, which I inherited from my dad. He worked at great depths and drew strength from the earth. In general, the daughter of her father found the strength to say “no” to Delon.

She was in a relationship with the Belgian composer Philippe Bergman. They planned to get married, but the marriage never came to fruition. When parting, he claimed the property of Kaas, which was a real shock for her.

short biography

The small town of Forbac is located in the northeast of France. The path to Paris is long - 340 km, but Germany is within easy reach. On the other side of the border lies the land of the Saar. It was here, at the junction of the two countries, that the future parents of Patricia Kaas met. A French citizen of German origin Josef and a German Irmgard met eyes at one of the festivities and fell in love with each other. Well, the result of their passionate passion was seven children, five boys and two girls. Patricia was born most recently on December 5, 1966.

While her father worked at the mine, and her mother was engaged in housekeeping, the little girl grew up and learned the world around. Angular, with a somewhat boyish demeanor, Patricia began to discover music. Hearing her daughter's singing, Irmgard was very happy - at least someone from a poor family could be freed from the bonds of poverty. Therefore, she began to encourage independent music lessons in every possible way and without hesitation signed her daughter up for the “Citywide Competition for Young Talents”. Such events were rare for Forbach. To miss such a chance is an unforgivable mistake.

Constant rehearsals ended with the appearance of a 10-year-old person on stage. Even then, she was able to excite the public by wearing men's pants and a cap instead of the expected ruffled dress. But the most interesting began later. A strong, hoarse and emotional voice sang in German and delighted everyone sitting in the hall. It was her first victory.

Her vocal abilities were noticed and began to be invited to various events. The ambitious Patricia could not fail to take advantage of this offer. And she began to sing. At festivities, in a cabaret and even at beer festivals. I even had to leave school, with the permission of my mother, of course.

Constant performances did not go unnoticed. At the age of 13, her voice conquered a German blues group. Without a shadow of hesitation, the group's producer offered to conclude a contract and sing a series of concerts for the gifted person at the Rum River club in the capital of Saara. The city of Saarbrücken did not differ in luxury and wealth. Despite this, the young singer was very pleased with the new round in her work.

One evening, Bernard Schwartz looked into the Rum River. The forced stop in this city forgotten by the world did not inspire the French producer for long gatherings. But Patricia's performance changed everything. Stepping on stage, she sang a song by Liza Minnelli and ... received an invitation to conquer Paris. So, the 19-year-old aspiring singer left her native places and began to be inspired by the romance of the Parisian streets.

The first single "Jealous" did not bring the expected success and a surge of fame. Bernard constantly compared her with Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich, prophesying popularity for the young lady. But such comparisons only angered Patricia and forced her to work with even greater dedication in order to prove that she was different. And she did. The single "Mademoiselle sings the blues" opened a new talent for France - Patricia Kaas, and the album of the same name reached platinum status in three months. It is a pity that my mother, Irmgard, did not live up to this moment and could not share her daughter's success.

The universal love of the public grows like a snowball. Patricia enjoyed her fame and aspired to new horizons. At the age of 21, Olympia, the main concert hall in Paris, also submitted to her. The audience accompanied her with thunderous applause and threw hundreds of bouquets at her feet. This is the moment she lived for.

A little later, Pat terminated the contract with Bernard Schwartz, acquired luxury housing in an elite area of Paris and changed her appearance. Now a daring, sexy and temperamental woman appeared on the stage. Her new look, combined with a distinctive voice, made hearts beat faster and forget about everything in the world.

Patricia became the darling of France. At the end of 1990, she was chosen as the “Voice of the Year” and devoted an entire program on one of the channels. She had a dizzying success and relied on endless tours, which were popular. In 2009, Patricia represented France at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. Her composition "Et s`il fallait le faire" scored 107 points during the voting and took 8th place. For France it was a success.

Platinum discs, victory in the nominations "Best performer of the year", high album sales - this is the result of endless dedication to the music world. Patricia lived with songs and the powerful energy of her fans. Career overshadowed everything, even a loved one and the desire to start a family. The Belgian composer Philippe Bergman, with whom she spent unforgettable years, could not completely melt the heart of this outwardly cold and impregnable woman. He wanted children, she could not imagine a break in creativity. Loneliness once again covered her ...

Patricia continues to sing, create new compositions and tour. And let the twinkle of loneliness is still visible in her eyes. Perhaps this is what makes her exactly the Patricia Kaas who is listened to and admired.

Costumes for going on stage, however, like everyday wardrobe, are completely selected by Kaas. The singer's style is a separate topic for discussion. Despite the bright sexuality, there is no hint of vulgarity in it. All images are distinguished by femininity and sophistication. The artist's make-up harmoniously complements the created set: gloss instead of lipstick, Kaas does not like her, and a smoky eye make-up.

Not long before her 50th birthday, Patricia released an autobiographical book, The Shadow of My Voice, where she revealed her innermost secrets and thoughts.

It cannot be said that success was always accompanied by it. There were also failures. So, the album "Sexe Fort" did not cause much inspiration among fans. After touring in favor of the disc, Kaas took a breather that lasted almost two years.

Before one of the concerts, the singer posted a post on the social network, where she asked fans not to film the concert. No, it's not a star disease. Kaas just wanted to see the faces of the people who came to listen to her, not smartphones.

Features of the musical direction of Patricia Kaas

According to music experts, Patricia managed to renew her interest in French chanson in the early 90s of the last century. But classify it as a classic chanson difficult. This classification was assigned to her due to the fact that she sings in the language of her country. And as you know, all French-speaking performers are classified as chanson.

In fact, Pat's style has notes of Anglo-American pop music, as well as jazz and blues. This mixture of directions is fully consistent with her rough voice from alto to mezzo-soprano. Critics also note a certain rhythm and melody of her singing: it is pleasant to listen to her both in French and in German.

Patricia Kaas about herself, her life and work

Looking at photographs of Pat from different times, you involuntarily pay attention to her eyes. A beautiful cut, rich blue color and unchanging sadness, which is visible even through a smile. Patricia calls herself a melancholic and says that there is nothing to be surprised about here. At the age of 20, losing a mother, and after a while, a father ... After such events, it is not difficult to become melancholic and depressive in thoughts, because we are talking about the closest people.

Loneliness... another feeling that pervades her life. Even being in the arms of a multimillion-dollar audience, Patricia never lost the feeling that she was alone. This is true for her personal life as well. Each novel ended with loneliness, a feeling of sadness and longing. Once she even hated men, until ... she met a new prince. Now her life brightens up a cute dog named Tequila. It is so nice to pat him behind the ear, bury himself in soft wool and feel that someone is waiting for you at home and does not require anything in return.

Uncertainty ... always accompanies her. Either too thin, or too full - various doubts about herself, her beauty constantly hover in her head. And this is said by a woman whose appearance is admired by others! But Kaas has learned to deal with her own negativity and accept herself.

Career… always comes first and always a priority. This is her life. Despite the critical acclaim and the love of fans, she does not believe that she is doing something supernatural. Pat is modest about his achievements, which captivates the audience even more. Ambassador of French Music is an imposed title that is not recognized by Patricia. She believes that she brings her music to the masses.

"I'm so spoiled," Kaas replies when asked by a journalist about his dreams. The singer does not hide her passion for expensive things and a luxurious life, but she does not flaunt it as some kind of achievement. It is difficult to surprise her, although gifts from fans always delight her.

Patricia Kaas is a combination of talent, charm and mystery. I want to listen to her, I want to watch her, I want to admire her. Fans note that she has become different. And it's not just about music, but also about the inner world. Despite this, they remain faithful to her, which proves the correctness of her chosen life path.
