The film "Let the world hear!"

By their example, the heroes show that today deafness is not a sentence. The man has a choice!

On September 20, the premiere of the documentary film “Let the world hear!” took place at the Illusion cinema.

The film is dedicated to the problem of rehabilitation of deaf people after cochlear implantation* – the only opportunity for them today to hear sounds and start talking. Scriptwriter - Arkady Sosnov, director - Evgeny Zakharov. The organizer of the premiere is the almanac of social partnership "Russian Maecenas".

Today, according to WHO (World Health Organization) statistics, for every thousand newborns, from 1 to 3 babies are born with complete hearing loss. About the same number become deaf during the first years of life. Hundreds of adults every year lose their hearing due to accidents. This is a sentence dooming to life in a world where complete silence reigns. Only cochlear implantation can help them. Today there are about 13 million deaf people in Russia.

The film "Let the world hear!" tells the stories of three people who were able to hear the world, thanks to new technologies and the possibilities of medicine.

The film solves several problems. First of all, information. According to Yuri Yanov, President of the National Medical Association of Otorhinolaryngologists, “we have learned to restore one of the five basic human senses. Today in Russia, more than 8,000 children and adults hear with the help of cochlear implants. In our country, this operation is carried out according to state quotas, which means that every child has a chance to hear this world.”

Vladislav Kuzovkov, MD, otosurgeon, during a press conference organized before the premiere, spoke about the operation itself, which “today has already become routine, for example, in the Research Institute of ENT in St. starting from 8 months. Perhaps this first-hand information, as they say, will make parents of deaf children stop being afraid of the operation.

But surgery is only the first step to recovery. Then begins a long and difficult postoperative period. “The main rehabilitation specialist for a child is his parents. Therefore, it is very important to prepare them and support them on this difficult path of teaching a child. To do this, we, together with the parent association "I hear the world!" created a whole program to support parents of children with hearing impairments,” says Inna Koroleva, Doctor of Psychology, professor, author of books and manuals on the rehabilitation of children and adults after cochlear implantation.

The film also has an educational function. The fact is that our society is not ready to accept people with cochlear implants, they are considered flawed. The heroine of the film, the Kazakh girl Aigerim, had a young man whose mother, having learned that the girl was “actually deaf,” forbade him to communicate with her. “I know a St. Petersburg family in which there are two little girls, one with normal hearing, the other with implants,” Arkady Sosnov tells his story. - Their mother said that a neighbor forbids her daughter to communicate with a baby living with implants in order to “not get infected”. These children have problems with classmates because of the small shell behind the ear - and this is a serious problem for teachers and parents. An example of another hero of the film - Nikolai Kuznetsov, who lost his hearing at the age of 3, and now studies at the law faculty of St. Petersburg University, irrefutably proves that people with implants sometimes achieve much more in life than outwardly absolutely healthy people.

And, finally, the film provides an excellent opportunity to be inspired by the strength of the spirit of people who have overcome circumstances. “We hope that, looking at the characters in the film, someone will finally eliminate all doubts about the benefits of cochlear implantation and take a decisive step forward. If this happens, it means that we did not work in vain!” - says the director of the film Evgeny Zakharov.

* Cochlear implantation is an operation to implant an implant into the inner ear of a deaf person that restores hearing function. Unlike a hearing aid, which simply amplifies sounds, a cochlear implant sends signals to the auditory nerve.

The presentation and screening of a documentary film about hearing, deafness and music, about the fate of people with hearing disabilities took place in the small hall of the Surgut Philharmonic. This is the first and so far the only premiere show in Ugra. The organizer is the Surgut Regional Clinical Hospital, on the basis of which the only clinical and diagnostic center for audiology and hearing aids in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug operates. The participants of the event are families with adults or children who are hard of hearing or suffering from complete deafness, social workers, audiologists, as well as citizens who are not indifferent to the problems of people with disabilities.

A feeling of compassion, respect and, at the same time, pride in modern medicine and admiration for people who every day, every minute struggle with an illness and, in spite of everything, achieve their life goals ... The psychologically complex documentary aroused the corresponding emotions in the audience. Many had tears in their eyes. Some he made think, others - spurred to action.

Lyudmila Gorbunova, member of the public council of the Surgut Regional Clinical Hospital: - “Thank you very much for the film. I don’t have hearing problems, but I have other health problems….. After watching this film, I understood something for myself and saw this “light at the end of the tunnel”….. Many thanks to the doctors for the hope that you give to our children and parents. And thank you so much for making this movie. This is not just the right investment of money, but it is an investment in the cause of good on our Earth.

The heroes of the film are three young people. The same as you and me. Studying at university, working, spending time with family, listening to music and dancing. But there is one "but". All of them at different times completely lost their hearing and were doomed to spend the rest of their days in complete silence, but thanks to a happy accident they returned from the world of absolute deafness to the world of sounds, speech and music.

The film immerses the viewer into the atmosphere of another life, countries and events. The viewer will be able to look at the world in a new way and learn a little more about our habitual and unknown ability to hear.

The direct impetus for the creation of the film was an acquaintance with a unique St. Petersburg youth Nikolai Kuznetsov, who, due to an illness suffered in childhood, lost both his sight and hearing, - shared the author of the idea and the script for the film, Arkady Sosnov, - He did not succeed in returning his vision, but his hearing was restored with using cochlear implantation. Today Nikolai studies at the law faculty of St. Petersburg University, goes in for sports, writes poetry, including those inspired by the music of Beethoven. We decided to follow his fate and the fate of two more outstanding young people who can be considered special, “X” people, or quite ordinary ...

Over the documentary "Let the world hear!" a team of journalists, directors and cameramen worked. Active participation in the film was taken by specialists who work every day to restore hearing: doctors, psychologists, deaf teachers and scientists.

Filming was carried out in Russia, Slovakia, Austria, Kazakhstan. Initiators: Almanac of social partnership "Russian Maecenas", GBUK "Petersburg - concert", Federal State Budgetary Institution St. Petersburg Research Institute of Ear, Throat, Nose and Speech, Parent Association "I hear the world".

The purpose of this project is to show people that deafness does not interfere with a full life in a hearing society. After cochlear implantation and hearing-speech rehabilitation, deaf children begin to speak and understand speech, study in general education schools, enter universities, lead an active lifestyle, play musical instruments, sing, dance and, most importantly, become full-fledged and fulfilled adults in life. By their example, the heroes show that today deafness is not a sentence.

Anna Maksimova, journalist, author and host of the TV program “Your Health”: “These are wizards who give a future to our children! I hope that our children will also reach some heights and have a wonderful life. They will delight not only their parents but also us with their successes. And success, I must say, is!

Girls and boys, after cochlear implantation in the district clinical and diagnostic center for surdology and hearing aid, are undergoing rehabilitation in a day hospital. Audiologists, psychologists, speech therapists deal with them. The children will quickly socialize. They successfully study in ordinary general education schools, study in institutions of additional education, sing, dance, participate in various creative, musical, choreographic competitions of various levels and become their winners.

For example, Sophia Churi from the city of Nizhnevartovsk, a regular participant in the Magic Symphony reading contest, and Nikita Milyutin, plays the piano. A young musician from Nizhny Sortym (Surgut region) is a laureate of All-Russian and international competitions.

Nina, mother of a small patient of the Center for Audiology and Hearing Aid:

"Thank you very much! I want to say a little about rehabilitation. She goes to the family, first of all. Her success primarily depends on her parents. Well, the teachers of the day hospital are doing everything possible to help. I urge everyone whose children have already been implanted and who still have to do their best to make their rehabilitation more successful.”

Elena Vasilyeva, Head of the Clinical and Diagnostic Center for Audiology and Hearing Prosthetics of the Surgut Regional Clinical Hospital, Chief Freelance Specialist of the Health Department of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra, answered the questions of those present. She said that cochlear implantation operations and further rehabilitation are quite expensive. But, since a federal program is working in Russia, these procedures are completely free for residents of the Russian Federation. More than 15 people are operated on in Ugra every year. (these are those who are implanted for the first time). Many come a second time and install an implant on the second ear. In total, from 20 to 26 people a year receive such treatment from the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug in various clinics of the Russian Federation.

There is a section on the website of the Department of Health of Yugra and on the website of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation where every patient, every parent can get information about where to apply for such surgical treatment in the region where he lives. The Surdology and Hearing Care Center of the Surgut Regional Clinical Hospital accepts patients from all over the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra.

According to the World Health Organization, one in five out of 1,000 newborns have hearing impairments or are born with complete deafness. Previously, they lived in a world of silence: sign language, lip reading, a limited circle of communication, studying in a special school... Today, thanks to new technologies and investments from our state, a deaf child can hear the sound of this world. With partial hearing loss, the rehabilitation of a hearing-impaired child is possible with the use of hearing aids, with complete deafness, hearing is restored with the help of a cochlear implantation operation.

Science does not stand still. Currently, according to the director of the LorNII Yuri Yanov, there is no such problem that medicine in the field of audiology and hearing aids could not solve. Hearing aid, cochlear implantation, bone vibrant…. To date, the first brainstem implantation in Russia has been performed at LorNII. And, now, for those people who do not have the cochlea or by some processes it is destroyed so that it is not possible to install an implant in it - it is installed in the brain stem. And the results are pretty good.

She answered the questions of the presentation participants, and the head of the video project “Let the world hear!” Natalya Konyushenko. She said that the project “Let the world hear!” there is a sequel. During this year the film will be shown in all regions of Russia. In the future, it is planned to continue to talk about people who have encountered this problem. And now many stories of patients have already been collected, which will become the heroes of the next part of the project.

Natalya Konyushenko shared that everyone who works on the project does it from the heart and soul. Everyone understands and can answer - why and for what he does it.

Artur Salmiyarov, audiologist: “The project is very cool. But I would like to see it a little wider. You should probably talk about hearing in general. Not only about those who underwent cochlear implantation. Children with any hearing impairment need rehabilitation. If the project unfolds and is generally about the rumor, then it will be even more interesting!”

This first proposal for the further implementation of the project was received by its producer after the presentation of the film in Surgut! By the way, “Let the world hear!” has its own website - "Film about hearing.ru", where you can follow the news, write your reviews and express your suggestions for the further development of the project.

The presentation is over. Everyone who was present at the premiere of the film, took part in the conversation - looking forward to its continuation!
