What is the difference between Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano. What is the difference between Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano: comparison, and which is better?

If speak about model range Renault, many people notice that Duster crossovers from generation II are very similar to Nissan SUVs. We are talking about the Terrano model, officially presented in the spring of 2014 and updated in 2016. It probably makes no sense to compare two crossovers - external differences few people are interested. The question is what Nissan Terrano better Renault Duster and is it possible to name at least one difference that allows you to justify the higher price that is typical for the Nissan brand.

Test drive and comparison of the two different cars provided by the author of the video.

Practicality or saving on trifles?

The Nissan crossover has enamelled bumpers. The same solution is used by Renault. The rear tow hook on the Duster is covered by a hatch, but on the Terrano this hatch is located on the bumper, and does not separate the bumper and body (see photo).

"Duster" - on the right

The shape of the bumpers for two different machines slightly different. The overhang angles are also different, and the comparison will not be in Terrano's favor. But the ground clearance remains the same.

In the basic configuration, many interesting options may be missing. For example, such as the ESP system. The statement applies to two brands at once - just don't buy the "base".

It seems that everything that distinguishes the Nissan Terrano from the Renault Duster is richer equipment. The Terrano in the “base” has two power windows, as well as two airbag modules, while the Duster has only one “cushion”. This is where the price difference comes from. Engines are no different.

We study the transmission, there are no differences?

We remind the reader that the Nissan crossover has been constantly updated after its official premiere. Gasoline engines within two years they became more powerful, "catching up" with Renault engines in terms of performance. And now, after the update, it is difficult to understand how Nissan Terrano differs from Renault Duster and whether there are any differences at all.

Previously, one could come across publications where they stated that the gear ratios in the boxes of different crossovers were chosen differently. Now this difference has disappeared - check out the official data.

So, here are two different screenshots. They are provided by Nissan and Renault dealers.

What is the difference between the design of Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano?

Nissan Terrano (left) and Renault Duster (right) - can you spot the differences?

Nissan and Renault crossovers differ in design. Nissan products traditionally occupy a higher niche, and the appearance of a Japanese SUV should inspire respect. That is why elements that immediately catch the eye have been complicated to the limit. These include: front and rear optics, etc.

Heading optics "Terrano"

By the way, the appearance of the Nissan SUV has not changed since May 2014. During the restyling, which followed a couple of years later, only the interior changed.

If we talk about conquering off-road, the differences between Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano can be considered insignificant: the shape of headlights or taillights matters only in the city. It's not so much about practical use, but about the status of the car.

Comparison of cars from behind. In the photo, Terrano is on top, and Duster is on the bottom.

Need a high status - pay a little more. A buyer of a Terrano crossover knows that his car will go faster than any Renault SUV. True, the superiority is 1-2%. And in version 4x4 (6MKP + 2.0 L) there is no superiority.

Comparison of speed indicators

First, let's discard the complete set with automatic transmission - cars drive the same way in it. The same can be said about the 4 × 4 + 6MKP version (2.0 l), where the Duster accelerates faster, and its maximum speed is 5% lower than that of the Terrano. In versions with a "base" motor, the differences will be minimal. Only the different efficiency that is characteristic of the 4 × 4 configuration (1.6 l) is striking: the Duster will have a fuel consumption of 8.2 liters per hundred. The figures are superior to the "competitor", equal to 7.6 liters.

Serious test drive of the Duster crossover on video

We're the same blood! Yes, yes, that's what the Nissan Terrano would say and Renault Duster if only they could talk. However, despite the blood relationship, buyers face a really difficult choice, which is better - Renault Duster or Nissan Terrano? And this is by no means an exaggeration. At first glance, each applicant is unique in its own way. And if one lures big name and beauty, then the second one inclines towards itself with a lower price, greater cross-country ability and no less flattering reviews of those lucky ones who have already purchased this unit and use it with pleasure.

Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster are crossovers with many similarities

We stood between two crossovers for a long time, trying to discern the differences between Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster, and we succeeded. So, welcome to the battle of Renault Duster vs Nissan Terrano crossovers! Well, the results of this fight will help you once and for all.

Appearance

Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano is one of the most difficult stages of our duel. And there are two reasons for this:

  1. Each motorist has his own taste and his own concepts of beauty.
  2. Both crossovers are very similar in appearance, and it is simply impossible not to recognize one design in them.

However, despite the strong similarity, the Renault Daster is just as different, which, in turn, makes the choice even more difficult, and one can argue about which of them is more attractive ad infinitum.

The main external difference between the two cars is in the headlights, taillights, grille, and bumpers. All other differences are quite minor, and these include protruding lines on the body and other minor restyling. But, despite their stealth, together these little things produce an indelible effect, and strongly distinguish Terrano from the background of the Duster. And in general, outwardly, the Nissan Terrano turned out to be a kind of mini-version, on which you can come to the office and frolic outside the asphalt, install a spare tire on the fifth door, and in general there would be no price for it. Therefore, Renault Duster is still a little in the red in terms of appearance, because its appearance directly indicates that it is a budget, compact all-terrain vehicle for mere mortals. So in the Nissan Terrano vs. Renault Duster duel, after the fight for the best appearance, the score becomes 1: 0 in favor of the first fighter, and we move on to the next stage of the crossover battle.

Salon decoration

So, welcome to the Nissan Terrano showroom! The first thing that catches your eye, which slightly changed its design and acquired the Nissan emblem. The deflectors in the center of the panel have lost their round shape, which has taken root in Renault, but for some reason the side ones remained unchanged. The niche for all sorts of little things that Duster possessed in Terrano is now closed with a lid. The instrument panel has remained virtually unchanged, except for a slightly modified design of the tachometer and speedometer. By the way, not very successfully changed, so they look prettier in the Duster.

Armchairs entirely migrated from Duster without any changes. But the multimedia component has undergone a complete replacement. Terrano installed a proprietary Nissan audio system, and again in vain. The audio system in Renault has a larger display, clearer and more beautiful graphical execution of the software, as well as a higher screen resolution, which allows you to get a better image. However, in the top version of Terrano, it is built into the audio system, which, by the way, is not very convenient to use due to the very low location of the display. But, on the other hand, the Duster has a steering column control of the audio system.

Another benefit of the Renault Duster is its dual-zone climate control, while the Nissan only offers air conditioning. Everything else remains the same. Therefore, given the unfortunate, light interior modification in Terrano, we award Renault one point, and the score becomes 1:1.

Powertrain and ride quality

Well, it's time for a power struggle between Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster. This part is one of the most important criteria, because the key factor is not only the external and internal appearance of the car, but also how it will drive.

First, let's look at the Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster engine lines. When purchasing Nissan, motorists have the opportunity to choose between two types of gasoline units. The first absorbed a volume of 1.6 liters and produces 102 horses with a torque of 145 N * m, and the second contained two liters and instead provided 135 horses with a torque of 191 N * m.

Test drive of the Nissan Terrano:

Sparsely, of course, but you don’t need more, choosing a two-liter version, you get everything you need for a small crossover. Moreover, if you prefer automatic transmission, then you have no choice, since the machine only comes with a kopeck piece and. For some reason, Nissan decided not to equip all-wheel drive with automatic equipment at all.

Duster looks much more attractive against this background. You have three to choose from, one diesel and two gasoline. The diesel unit comes only with an all-wheel drive version, has a volume of one and a half liters and produces ninety horses at a torque of 200 N * m. It is worth noting that this is the most economical version of all, the consumption in general mode will be only 5.3 liters per hundred. Gasoline engines are similar to two Nissan ones, 1.6 and 2.0 respectively. However, the two-liter version of the Duster has a little more traction and produces 195 N * m against 191 for the Terrano. Both units are available for both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models.

Another important advantage of Renault is that it is equipped with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive two-liter versions. Diesel and petrol 1.6 are completed only with mechanics. Otherwise, Nissan and Renault are all the same, the same magnetic clutch from Murano, the same MacPherson strut front suspension with telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers, and the same rear multi-link. By the way, in both crossovers, this suspension works off-road with a bang, but it’s better to forget about comfort due to excessive rigidity.

Test drive of a Renault Duster car:

As for cross-country ability, in comparison with Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster, the latter looks more confident. This is facilitated by the unpainted lower part of the bumpers, with which you can not be afraid of scratches while making your way through the thickets, and the Duster also has the ability to overcome steeper ascents and descents. The Terrano has less steep entry and exit due to the new bumper design.

There is no need to wait for any significant differences when driving, in general, the behavior of cars both on the road and off the road surface is the same. The same can be said for . Therefore, Renault Duster gets one point, for a richer range of engines, for the opportunity to purchase an all-wheel drive version with an automatic, as well as for a little more freedom on the roads. And the score in the duel between Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano becomes 2:1 in favor of the Frenchman, and we move on to the next and final stage of the battle of crossovers.

Fight for cost

The price is the main criterion for most motorists, so it’s impossible not to say about it, especially since the price tag is almost the main difference between Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster.

As they say, beauty requires sacrifice, and Nissan decided to sacrifice an affordable price for the sake of a beautiful appearance. Judge for yourself, the cost of a front-wheel drive Terrano with a 1.6 engine and a manual transmission starts at 719,700 rubles, and the minimum price for a Duster with a similar technical filling is 554,000 rubles. True, Nissan for such a price comes with painted bumpers, with front power windows, with a separate backrest of the rear sofa, which folds in a ratio of 60 to 40, with air conditioning, two airbags and. But the price of a Duster in the same configuration as that of Terrano is still less - 642,000 rubles.

Top version with a two-liter engine, all-wheel drive and a manual transmission from Nissan costs 932,200 rubles, while Duster in a similar version is limited to 844,000 rubles. And even with an automatic, the all-wheel drive Duster in the maximum configuration costs 882,000, which is 50,200 rubles cheaper than the Terrano with mechanics. And therefore, without a doubt, one point is awarded to Renault Duster, and the score becomes 3:1 in favor of the Frenchman. Renault's victory in this battle showed that beauty is not the main thing, and the car should be chosen not only with the eyes, but also with all other parts of the body.

It's up to you to decide for Nissan, and our verdict is this: Nissan Terrano, with its fashionable appearance and big name, is more suitable for young people, and Renault Duster will always be held in high esteem among lovers of simplicity, reliability and versatility, because the Frenchman will always pass where the Japanese "bite" nose."

Renault Duster until recently had no alternative, but today you can buy a Nissan Terrano clone of the French crossover. "Japanese Duster" looks solid and attractive against the backdrop of the Frenchman's outdated design. What is the same and what is the difference between cars.

What's new?

Nissan designers did their best to make the new Terrano look like the Patrol flagship. Modern front and rear Nissan optics, front grille, new bumpers, original rims, plastic lining peeks out from under the arches, sills and glazing area are painted differently and roof rails. A standard set for restyling a car, but in this case a new model has come out.

The car looks new, and more expensive than the Frenchman. But no matter how hard you try, looking at the photo of Nissan Terrano, you will immediately recognize Renault Duster in it. It's about exterior design. But what's inside?

The interior of the car remained the same, it is difficult to find any strong differences. What's new: Nissan logo on the steering wheel and steering wheel pad, front panel pockets are designed differently, central air vents have a different shape, and some other small details that do not matter much. The multimedia system is not MediaNav like in Renault Duster, but is branded Nissan, and they missed with it. The multimedia interface is less convenient and beautiful, the screen resolution is lower. It has an option that is not available to Duster owners - a rear view camera. On this you can finish with the differences of cars.

Why Nissan and not Renault

The Terrano model of the previous generation has established itself as a reliable and hardy SUV. Owning a Japanese has always been more attractive than a French, but it used to be a reliable SUV Terrano, and now this budget crossover is built on the basis of Logan. Now he has become a class below and turned into a different car in spirit. With the advent of the Nissan Terrano, Nissan marketers have made right choice, having lowered it in the class, many will want to buy a proven car for years.

Is there a difference in management?

From a technical point of view, both cars are exactly the same. For a test drive Duster 1.6 4x4 (102 hp) and Terrano 2.0 4x4 (135 hp). Type of all-wheel drive transmission and mechanical boxes gears are the same. Both crossovers during the test drive behaved in exactly the same way: handling, noise isolation, smoothness. There are no differences between them. Since the technical characteristics of Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano are the same and the difference was only in the volume of engines.

But still, let us recall how the Nissannodaster rides

2 liter engine and 6 speed gearbox with its short first, which replaces the "lower", great for off-road, but not for the city. Do you always choose first or second? And every time you decide from the start at the traffic lights, which gear to choose 1 or 2. The engine pulls perfectly at low and medium speeds, giving the crossover confidence in any conditions.

As for the 1.6 engine and the power of 102 horses, they put this on the new Renault Logan, the heavy Renault Duster is not enough. If you are a fan of fast driving, then the engine has to be turned up to high speed, and it is better for Duster to overtake with a 1.6 engine with a free “oncoming”.

If we consider a bunch of engine and gearbox, 1.6 wins in terms of smoothness and traction control, and if you need traction and power, then choose a 2 liter engine. As the practice of owning a Duster shows, the suspension of a car is reliable and hardy, impenetrable. The steering wheel is tight and clear, the reaction is clear and predictable.

How much is a name worth?

Let's start with the fact that: new bumpers, optics, a radiator grille, wheels, a multimedia system are not what the future owner will choose Nissan Terrano for. He will pay for the nameplate and design at first. How much is the name Terrano instead of Duster? The price of Renault in the basic configuration starts from 492,000 rubles 1.6 4x2 and mechanics. And Nissan Terrano in the same configuration starts from 677,000 thousand rubles. The price is much higher!

To find out how much the Nissan brand costs, let's compare the same configurations: 2.0 4x4 and mechanics: this is Terrano Elegance for 815 thousand and Duster Privilege for 708 thousand. Add more airbags for a Frenchman for 15,500 - 738,500 rubles. In the bottom line, the Terrano nameplate is 76,500 rubles.

Let's compare the complete set of Duster Expression with a 1.6 engine air conditioner, ESP - 663,000 rubles. Nissan Terrano in a similar configuration 735,000 rubles. And the difference in cost is 70,000 rubles. But we must remind everyone that if you are going to buy a Renault Duster in Moscow, then you will have to pay extra from 6 thousand, and if further, up to several tens of thousands, depending on the distance from Moscow. Nissan does not have such tricks, and the amount indicated in the price list is without additional surcharge for delivery to the dealer.

What is the result

Not many people know, but many people guess that Renault Duster is practically the same car. Only one of them, namely, is the prototype of the second (Nissan Terrano). And if you decide which car to buy, then you need to understand all the differences that exist between these models. After all, although they are very similar, they are still two different cars.

Who's new?

Terrano, of course, is newer than Duster, and Nissan looks more expensive than its brother.

The Terrano has slightly different roof rails, two-tone rims and an intricate pattern. The recognizable front grille gives the Terrano a resemblance to the flagship Nissan Patrol. But, whatever one may say, the well-recognized Renault Duster is visible in the silhouette of Terrano. You can’t tell right away: either an improved Frenchman is in front of you, or a slightly simplified Japanese.

What is the difference between the Terrano salon and the Duster salon? There are also enough differences here: the design of the pockets located on the front panel, the steering wheel cushion, tidy, multimedia system. By the way, the multimedia system in this case turned out better with Duster. But Terrano was equipped with a rear-view camera ().

Who is more solid?

Here, too, everything is more than obvious: the brand of Japanese origin turned out to be the most attractive for buyers. After all, Japanese cars have long become, in a sense, a measure for many other cars. However, not everything comes down to the country of origin of the machine. Terrano himself managed to prove himself on the positive side: the previous generations of this car were quite strong and hardy. Although the current Terrano, as they say, is not the same as before.

Today it is a simple budget crossover, but, it should be noted, a very high-quality budget crossover.

Duster cannot boast of such success. This car, though quite popular, but only because its cost is not as exorbitant as the cost of many of its other competitors. Renault Duster cannot boast of anything special.

Oh, I'll ride!

From a technical point of view, both models are the same car. All-wheel drive transmission and manual transmission for Duster and Terrano are the same. And since the technical stuffing of both cars is almost identical, the difference is only in difference directly power units and gearboxes. That is, which car you would not prefer, they will drive the same way.

Cars are characterized by a good suspension: stiff, but not pierced. On the example of the Dusters, she showed herself only from the best side.

In general, both cars feel comfortable on the road, both in urban conditions and on the highway. Of course, Duster and Terrano are far from sports cars and do not indulge in high speed, but no one requires this from them.

Which is better - Nissan Terrano or Renault Duster?

The question is quite complicated, given that these cars are very similar.

Is it worth it to overpay for the name and solidity? Or can you get by with the French version? It's up to you to decide.

I didn’t immediately get a similar version - but there were objective reasons for that: it was necessary to “make friends” with a two-liter engine, a four-speed “automatic” and an all-wheel drive transmission, since such a configuration was needed only in Russia. However, the French started selling the automated Duster three years ago! And Terrano has been in production for two years now...

Once upon a time, Terrano evoked quite clear “correct off-road associations” - it was a serious frame car with a solid rear axle. Many people still buy these cars on the secondary market with pleasure and joyfully refine them, turning them into real off-road monsters. With the current model, such a number will not work, because its pedigree is not distinguished by purity, but is the result of insidious incest in order to extract maximum benefit at minimum cost. But this does not mean that the result is bad. Vice versa - !

Now, after three years of painful waiting, Nissan lovers can safely walk in friendly rows to dealerships. And we, the journalists, took a ride on the "novelty" around Serpukhov and Tarusa. We were given only one day for everything about everything, which is completely logical: apart from the combination of an “automatic” with all-wheel drive, and a modified instrument panel, there is nothing new in the car.

The organizers made the main emphasis on off-road - and rightly so. Even though the car is a budget car, with a load-bearing body, and for many other reasons, it is completely harmless, but even a sophisticated driver can surprise. True, this surprise is not always pleasant: for example, the Terrano's horn button is in French on the end of the left steering column switch. And it's annoying! A considerable number of alternatively "gifted" drivers that we meet on our roads constantly force us to use the signal - and the Terrano driver helplessly beats on the dumb steering wheel hub. Personally, I have not gotten used to this “ergonomist joke” for a full day.

About the fact that very modest materials were used in the interior decoration, and the set of options is scarce, has already been written repeatedly. Yes, it looks cheap. But you can live, especially if you understand what it is. According to brand representatives, admission ticket into the family of SUVs. There is a seat height adjustment - and thanks for that.

No matter how happy the Nissan people of the new modification are and do not praise it, the two-liter Terrano is boring on the highway. For an old brooding 143 hp four-speed torque converter. and 195 Nm - catastrophically small. To overtake, you have to switch to manual mode and pump a long lever - in automatic mode, the box does not like downshifting and holds the gear until the last, while the motor squeals from overvoltage.

But Terrano knows how to impress pleasantly: handling in all modes is excellent! In addition, a car with an equally energy-intensive suspension will have to be looked for. She is not afraid of any potholes. At speed, the Nissan seems to float above the road, while maintaining quite a distinct responsiveness to steering deflections.

Broken clearings, fields, sandbanks - Terrano passes them effortlessly, and the suspension praised above does not allow a single breakdown. More than once, we have come across in front of us, along which most of the much more prestigious crossovers will never pass - and our car, although it jumps, is stubbornly moving forward. The owner of such a device will always have a trump card in reserve: even though it is not the most nimble on the pavement, but on a country road you can bring down, as in a rally dope. The main rule is that where serious people ride on a low gear, "Terrano" will fly by "move".

With all the wonderful qualities of the car, one question still remains: why did you have to wait for the Terrano, if it has already been there for a long time? For example, I would definitely choose Nissan for its appearance: in my opinion, Japanese designers “processed” the blank better than French ones (or Romanian ones, if you remember that Duster is sold in Europe under the Dacia brand). Yes, this is taste, but it is she who very often decides everything.

In addition, there are other, less obvious reasons for this choice. At one time, Renault relied on Logan and Sandero - they make up the lion's share in the company's Russian sales. There are no words, the cars are not bad, but the image of a manufacturer of reliable and inexpensive "people's" cars has firmly entrenched in the French. Nissan, on the other hand, looks more prestigious in the eyes of many Russians, especially if we recall the rich off-road heritage of previous Terranos. That is, people choose not just a car, but a legend. And, knowing this very well, expect that on new version will account for 40% of model sales.
