Straight with an ace in poker. Card combinations in poker

Straight is a poker hand consisting of five cards in ascending order.

An example of a straight combination:

Three, four, five, six, seven.

Ten, jack, queen, king, ace.

King, ace, two, three, four is not a straight.

It is worth clarifying that straight- these are 5 cards in ascending order, but in the range from Ace to Ace. Ace is either the starting point for calculating the combination (you can call it a unit), or the highest card in the deck.

The first smallest straight is ace, two, three, four, five, and the highest straight is ten, jack, queen, king, ace.

Novice poker players or croupiers are not familiar with such a moment in the game, which is why we draw your attention to it.

You also need to remember that the straight is higher: pair, two pair and three cards.

What else is worth noting from the features of this street combination?

In three card poker, a straight is made up of three cards. In this type of poker, the straight is older than the flush and it pays more.

In other types of poker, the straight is lower than the flush and, accordingly, the payment for it is less.

In Russian poker there is such a thing as a double straight, what does it mean?

In Russian poker, a person can buy a sixth card.

We were given a street(two, three, four, five, six) we bought 6 cards and the croupier dealt us seven).

IN this option we have a combination of a straight two times. One street: two, three, four, five, six and the second - three, four, five, six, seven.

We close - we put the cards on the box and cover them with chips. The croupier opens his cards.

He announces his pair of queens.

Reveals our cards. First, he lays out the highest straight: three, four, five, six, seven and pays it to us (4:1), and then lays out the lowest straight two, three, four, five, six and pays it also 4:1.

It is worth noting that if the dealer and the player have the same straight (of the same denomination), let's say nine, ten, jack, queen, king; then in this variation they have a draw, which is also called Stay. The casino employee simply collects the cards and starts a new distribution, paying nothing, but not taking anything either.

If, with this option, the player has a sixth card, then it does not affect the state of affairs. It is not taken into account when comparing combinations. The dealer only has 5 cards, and the player's 6th card has nothing to compare to.

The last thing to note when this combination occurs is that the player must see the combination that he has collected or can collect. There are times when a player had a straight, but the cards were folded or the dealer did not see his straight.

If you play Russian poker, then take a closer look at your cards. You may find that you need a card in the middle in order to collect one street or two straights.

Example.

You have cards: Eight, nine, jack, queen, king.

With such cards, you must definitely buy the sixth card, and if you bought it, and it turned out to be a ten, then you should be congratulated on the combination of a double straight.

If you have cards in your hand in Russian poker:

three, four, five, six, seven (from the distribution of a straight) and with the sixth card you bought another seven. This is also a double straight combination. Some people think that this combination will be paid as a straight and a pair (4:1 + 2:1, but no, this is a double straight, and they will pay you if the dealer has a 4:1 + 4:1 game).

Good luck playing poker and finding your straight.

The combination of Straight in poker begins combinations in which all five cards are used, that is, there is no kicker. Above set stand Full House Flush Kare Street Flush Royal Flush, and lower High Card-Pair-Two Pair-Set. The combination stands almost in the very middle of the hierarchical ladder of combinations, in the Russian version it is pronounced as Straight(street), but this is not entirely correct. The original English says Straight(straight - order), but Russian-speaking players prefer the first way of pronunciation.

The combination itself is quite strong, with proper play and a bit of luck, it can bring the owner a significant bank. Poker players love the Straight with an ace - a special direction of the combination, which can be both the highest and the lowest, depending on the face value of the cards. Why does this happen and what are the secrets of a set with an ace?

General characteristics of a straight with an ace

A straight consists of five cards following each other in nominal order, the suit of the elements does not play any role, it can be different. If all cards are of the same suit, then it will be another combination - Straight Flush. A combination, for example, might look like this: 6 of hearts, 7 of diamonds, 8 of spades, 9 of hearts, 10 of diamonds. The seniority of the set and the name is determined by the highest card included in it. In this example, the designation will be Street from ten.

The combination of a straight in poker with an ace can be formed in two ways:

  1. 10, jack, queen, king, ace.
  2. Ace, 2,3,4,5.

And if everything is clear with the first case: this is the oldest Street, nominally the highest card in it is an ace, then many beginners have problems with the second option. It is not clear to them what place it occupies in the hierarchy and what is its strength.

In all cases, the Straight from Ace to 5 occupies the very first rung in the seniority ranking. The ace here acts as a unit, the combination is called the Straight from the five, it is inferior in strength to other sets in the combination.

Controversial situations with a straight with an ace

With hand rankings, things become clear relatively quickly, with controversial cases at the poker table a little more difficult, but if you delve into it, there should be no problems.

  • Two or more poker players have a Straight with an Ace in the variation - 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace. Since the combination is the oldest, and kickers are not provided, the pot is divided in equal parts between the applicants.
  • Dropped Straight in the variant - ace, 2,3,4,5 for two or more players. The situation is similar to the first one, the winnings are paid to poker players in equal parts.

Beginner confusion sometimes occurs when both types of Straight with an ace are at the table at the same time. You need to firmly grasp: The straight with the highest cards is always higher than other ways of making a combination.

How to use the combination correctly?

The answer to the question - can a straight start with an ace - is yes. This is the youngest combination in the "family", if it fell out, the drawing should be carried out carefully, the combination is still not the strongest in poker. Professionals advise to sensibly comprehend the situation at the table, experienced players, most likely, they will "bite" the owner of the Street. And if they have stronger cards, they will try to withdraw the largest possible pot, if they are weaker, they will simply fold.

The combination, as a rule, is given out by elements on the table lying in a row, the poker player will have the missing links in his hands. Recognizing them is not so difficult, so only with full confidence in success should you go on the attack with a Straight with an ace in your hand.

This winning combinations cards (the so-called "poker hands"). In this article you will find a description of all poker combinations with pictures and good examples for Texas Holdem, Omaha and other types of this card game. Let's start with the highest combination and describe them in descending order.

Card combinations in ascending order

We can represent poker card combinations in ascending order as the following sequence:

Royal Flush (Royal Flush; Royal Flush) > Straight Flush (Straight Flush; Straight Flush) > Four of a Kind > Full House > Flush > Straight > Set (Trips; Three of a Kind) > Two Pairs (Two Pairs) > Pair (One Pair) > High Card (High Card)

Do not forget that sometimes the combinations of player cards are the same. In this case, victory is determined by the seniority of the cards involved in the combination.

Royal Flush

Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten of the same suit. In fact, it is a suited senior straight. The rarest and strongest combination in poker.

Straight Flush

Any five cards in a row in order of seniority and the same suit. If two players have collected Straight Flush, then the combination in which the last card is higher wins. A straight flush can start with an Ace or end with an Ace (Royal Flush).

Kare (Four of a Kind)

Four cards of the same rank. If two players have collected the same four of a kind, then the one who has the highest "kicker" (fifth card) wins. For example: on the table 8,8,8,8,7 both players have collected four of a kind. One has K2 in his hands, the other has Q6. The first player with a combination of 8,8,8,8,K will win.

Full House

Three cards of the same rank and a pair of any two cards. If both players have collected a Full House, then the winner is the one whose three of a combination of seniors. If three cards are equal, a pair is compared, the one who has it higher wins.

Flush

Five cards of the same suit. The sequence can be any. If both players have a Flush, then the player with the highest card in the combination wins. If the highest Flush card is common, then the next highest card is compared.

Straight with an ace (Ace-high Straight)

Five cards in a row in seniority with an ace. The suits of the cards are different. If the ace is the highest card in the combination, then this is the strongest straight (A, K, Q, J, T). If the ace is the lowest card, then this is the weakest straight (A,2,3,4,5).

Street (Straight)

Five cards in a row by seniority. The suits of the cards are different. If both players have collected a Straight, then the one in whose combination the last card is higher wins. In this case, the Ace can be considered as the highest card in the combination, and the lowest. The oldest street is A,K,Q,J,T. The lowest street is A,2,3,4,5.

Set or Three of a Kind

Three cards of the same rank. In our example, these are three Aces and two additional cards, which are considered a kicker and are taken into account if both players have the same Set or Three of a Kind.

Two pairs

Two cards of one rank and two cards of another rank. In our case, these are two Aces and two Kings. If both players have collected a combination of Two pairs, then they are compared, and the one whose highest pair is higher wins. If the players have the same Two Pair, then the winner is the one whose fifth card (kicker) is higher.

Pair (One pair)

Two cards of the same rank. In the example, two Aces will become a pair. If both players have collected a Pair, then they are compared by seniority. If the opponents have the same Pair, then the winner is determined by the highest additional card (kicker). If they are equal, then the second and third additional cards are compared.

High card

Any five cards, which do not add up to any of the above combinations. The winner is determined by the highest card. If both players have the highest card equal, then the second, third, fourth and even fifth cards are compared. If all cards are equal, then the players simply split the pot.

Examples

To make it easier for you to remember these simple rules, we have written several examples where we clearly show how the combinations are formed and how the cards of the players are compared.

Pair

You win because your two Kings are higher than your opponent's two Queens. The older the couple, the stronger it is.

Two pairs

You win because your two pair 77 and 44 are higher than your opponent's (66 and 55). The comparison here takes place on the top pair, i.e. 77 vs 66.

Set or Three of a Kind

You win because your KKK 3 is higher than your opponent's 3. Kings are older than Jacks, and 555 is stronger than 444.

Straight

Despite the fact that both players have collected a Straight, it is you who wins, because. your top bottom card is higher (J versus 10). In fact, there is a comparison: J, 10, 9, 8, 7 versus 10, 9, 8, 7, 6.

Flash

You win, because your flush is higher than your opponent's flush. In this case, the combinations are compared according to the highest card, where the Ace is stronger than the King.

Full house

Both players made a Full House combination, having at the bottom a common three of 555. In such a situation, the pair that you have is compared (99 > 66). But most often these combinations have a different triple at the base, which determines the winner. For example: AAA99 is stronger than KKKQQ.

Kare

You win because you hit quads of four sevens against a Full House of three kings and two sevens. If among the five cards on the table there are 4 of the same value, say 8,8,8,8,5, then the one who has the highest card in his hand wins.

straight flush

You win, because your Straight Flush is over. The opponent has the highest card in the combination is 9, and you have Jack (J). In such a comparison, the one whose closing card is higher always wins.

Royal flush

You collected the strongest combination and won by showing a Royal Flush of 10,J,Q,K,A of the same suit. There is nothing older than this combination.

If the players have no combinations at all, then the one with the highest card wins. If the combinations or all cards are the same, then the winnings are divided between the players.

Common mistakes (Not the most obvious things in poker hands)

Flush over (>) straight!

This deserves separate consideration. It must be remembered that poker combinations are arranged in ascending order (seniority) not just like that, but according to logic: the stronger the combination of cards in hold'em, the less often it falls out. In the problem of the street< флеша, на первый взгляд, всё не так очевидно - на самом деле, всё в порядке, сейчас объясним почему.

When we have a flush draw, we kind of have 9 outs to improve. An open-ended straight draw involves only 8 cards. Paradox! The answer is on the surface - it's just that flush is more beautiful. In fact: XXs will improve to a flush draw 10.9% of the time and make a flush 0.8%. For a straight draw, the probabilities will be different: 10.4% for an open-ended straight draw, and 1.3% for a straight.

I'll take it on kicker!

The kicker does not exist for all poker hands. A pair, two pair, a set and four of a kind (if four of a kind is on the board) - an ace or a king up your sleeve can come in handy here. He, like a red diploma when entering a university, will allow you to become the coveted owner of the bank, all other things being equal.

kicker- this is a card that does not make a combination, but is taken into account when determining the winner if the players at the table have collected the same combinations. For example, both players have collected a pair of queens. The winner is the one with the highest card in hand, in addition to the queens. If there are 4, 6, Q, 9, 2 on the board, one of the players has KQ, and the other has JQ, then the one with the king kicker wins.

Sometimes the kicker can be shared, and then the opponents simply share the pot. A classic example: a board with any two pairs and an ace. In general, try not to call early position raises with marginal hands like T3o.

Solution.

In this case, it is better to re-raise and fold to aggression. (Do not thank!)

Be sure to learn all the poker hands in order of seniority, because without this it will be very difficult for you to understand your position at the table.

How the combination is made

poker hand- this is a set of 5 cards that form one of the combinations: high card, pair, two pair, set, straight, flush, four of a kind, straight flush or royal flush.

All combinations in Texas Hold'em and Omaha consist of 5 cards. Both the player's cards and the community cards on the table are used. The main rule is that only those cards that give the maximum possible combination in the hand are taken into account.

There are X ways to use cards when making combinations in Hold'em:

  • 2 player cards + 3 cards on the table. For example, the player has QJ on the board A8Q2J. The combination will be QJ for the player + QJA on the board.
  • 1 player card + 4 cards on the table. For example, the player has 85 on the board 8K7Q4. The combination "pair" will be obtained from the player's 8 + 8KQ7 on the board.
  • 0 player cards + 5 cards on the table. For example, player JQ has 5,6,7,8,9 on the board. The combination “common straight” will be obtained exclusively from the cards on the board.

Low combination- this is the combination that has the least significance of all possible in the hand. If the player has A8 on the board A7542, then his low combination is 24578. You need to collect low combinations in some types of poker, for example, in Omaha Hi-Lo.

It is called KICKER , or high card. That is, if none of the players has a combination of cards, then the oldest one wins - starting from the ace. Ace, king, queen, jack, 10, and so on. Example: the river is 2, 8, 9, jack, king. You have an ACE and a QUEEN, your opponent has a 10 and a 6. You have an ace high. You have won the hand. Then comes PAIR. Any pair of cards, of course, is considered by seniority. Example: on the river 2, 8, 9, jack, king. The opponent has 3, 10. You have 5 and the King. You have top pair - two kings. You have won.
Further - TWO PAIRS . That is, on the table are 2, 5, 9, jack, 6, and you have 5 and Jack in your hands. You have two pairs. If the opponent does not have two pairs, then you win. But if he has, for example, 10 and Jack, then his two pair is higher (10 is older than 5). The next combination, as it is easy to guess, TROIKA . That is, three cards of the same value. Example: on the table 2, 5, 9, 6, Jack. You have a pair of Jacks. Compare with the fact that on the table - you have a three. The opponent has 10, 3. You win.
The next one is a little more difficult. It's called STRAIGHT (order). This is a combination to increase cards. From low to high: 2,3,4,5,6 or 10, jack, queen, king, ace, or 6,7,8,9,10, jack. The only combination that does not immediately lend itself to logic is Ace, 2,3,4,5 (just the case when Ace is considered the lowest card). There should always be five cards, starting with the lowest. Then there are cards by color - FLASH (suit) - collect the same suit, the order is not important. Example: there are 2 clubs, 9 spades, 6 diamonds, 10 spades, 4 spades on the table. You have the queen of spades, 7 of spades. The second player does not care what (well, not really, but in this case), but there is no color. You have won. I repeat (although I got you with this), if the second player has at least the king of spades and the second spade suit, then he won. It is always considered by seniority. My lovely - FULL HOUSE . Full house. Very often, when you have this combination, you win (we will discuss the details later). These are three cards of one value and two of another (or, to make it easier, a triple and a pair). Example: on the table 9, Jack, 8, 9, Queen. You have a jack and a 9. That is, this gives us two jacks and three 9s. Three plus two. Like a classic Soviet film. Logically, the next combination KARE - four cards of the same value. For example, four aces, kings, no matter what. It comes out very rarely. So, if you took it - almost 100% you took the bank. Only two combinations can kill four of a kind. This STREET FLASH (suit in order). Cards of the same suit, in order. Example: there are 9 of spades on the table, jack of spades, 8 of diamonds, 10 of spades, ace of hearts, you have 8 of spades and queen of spades. All. Bingo! Straight flush. Even if the opponent has two spades (that is, just a flush), you win. Very interest Ask- whose suit is higher. But if you think a little, you will understand that two straight flushes cannot be. Therefore, this is a stupid question. And the last combination. ROYAL FLASH . The highest cards of the same suit in order - from 10 to the ace. I got it twice in many years of playing. But beginners are lucky, tell me later. She will kill everything. But it comes up very rarely.

  • Cards, like you need to arrange a vacation.
  • Never guess unnecessarily, from nothing to do.
  • In no case do not guess without desire. If you feel an inner mood to communicate with the cards, it is better not to take them in your hands.
  • Do not do more than 6 - 7 layouts per day, otherwise the cards will start to lie.
  • If the cards give you an unclear answer or you are unable to read the cards, it is better to postpone fortune telling. In the same way, when the deck is shuffled, the cards fall out of the hands all the time, the prediction is unlikely to be intelligible.
  • At night, it is better to refrain from divination, especially if you have little experience in divination, the night is associated with certain dark forces. You can't do it on Sunday and for big church holidays. It is also not recommended to guess with a waning moon.
  • P.S. Never guess unnecessarily or out of boredom, otherwise the cards will not serve you, but you cards!

Recommendations given are not iron rules. You are free to choose which ones you like and which ones you don't want. Over time, you may develop your own traditions. But all the recommendations still should not be neglected, since they also did not arise from scratch, but were formed over the centuries.
