A little more than a hundred identical graves - simple monuments, without fences and away from the main graveyard - this is how a rural cemetery looks today in the area of ​​\u200b\u200bthe village of Podnozhye on Russian Island. The rural cemetery in Pidnozhya has been operating since about the 50s of the last century. Only the military and local residents were buried here, so to this day the churchyard looks quite small. “The burial was discovered by neighbors. Their reaction was very negative. People were outraged by such a barbaric way of burying people: a bulldozer arrived, dug up the clay, the workers threw on the slabs and left,” said local resident Denis Yasinkov.

On some graves there were not even names, only “N. M." or "N. Zh.", which means "unknown man" or "unknown woman". It turned out that a new burial of unclaimed bodies is now located here - the old site at the Marine Cemetery is already overcrowded. Since they were buried in clayey soil, after the rains it floated, and all the gravestones slid down from the mounds. And it is impossible to cremate unclaimed bodies - relatives may demand the exhumation of the body for examination or reburial of the remains.

True, the news about the discovered burial quickly grew to incredible proportions: they even talked about the “burial of soldiers who died in the Donbass,” but it turned out to be an ordinary duck.

After contacting the city administration, the site was put in order, and there were no burials for quite a long time. However, this year, local residents discovered about a hundred fresh graves. The burial place itself, according to the cadastral map, is located on the site 25:28:060136:1, intended for the placement of a military unit. Back in 2015, the city administration sent a petition to the Ministry of Defense for the transfer of land to municipal ownership. Whether the transfer is completed or not is still unknown. Correspondents VL.ru turned to the specialists of the mayor's office for more information.

“Since 2015, the burial of unclaimed bodies has been organized here,” the city administration explained. - The former site, at the Sea Cemetery, is already overcrowded, burials are prohibited there, and people need to be buried somewhere.
