VAZ-2110, replacement of silent blocks: preparation and process

Any car is equipped with such, including the VAZ-2110. Replacing silent blocks is not an easy process. However, it can be done by hand. First, we note what function these components of the suspension perform. Silent blocks are rubber-metal products that provide a soft connection between parts. As a result, the car drives smoothly and gently. Part of the vibrations and shocks are absorbed by these rubber-metal products. VAZ-2110 levers are produced infrequently. It is not a consumable item. But there are certain signs by which wear can be detected. We will talk about them below.
Replacement symptoms
By what signs can you understand that the VAZ-2110 car needs replacement of silent blocks? You can diagnose the health of the seals without leaving the car, right on the go. If during the movement you notice a characteristic creak of rubber or knocks, most likely the product has become unusable. There is also a backlash. Preparation for work
So, first you need to prepare the appropriate set of tools. In addition to new silent blocks (polyurethane or rubber-metal, it doesn’t matter), a standard set of ratchet heads, soapy water, and VD-40 universal grease are required. Alternatively, you can use an analogue from the manufacturer "Mannol". The product costs several times cheaper, and the effect is the same, the reviews of car owners note. 
Also, in order for the replacement of silent blocks on a VAZ-2110 car to be successful, we need an inspection hole, overpass or lift. Of course, you can use a jack, but it will be very difficult. Among the special tools for replacement, you will need a puller for pressing out rubber-metal products. Tubes with washers and vise can be used. The main thing is that the washers and the tube fit in diameter.
Getting Started
So, we drive the car into a viewing hole. Next, we take a balloon wrench and tear off the wheel nuts (on the side on which the silent blocks will be replaced on the VAZ-2110 car). If these are front seals, you will need to remove the metal crankcase protection. 
Often the fastening bolts of this element “stick” under the influence of moisture and temperature changes. To facilitate the work, it is recommended to pre-soak the nuts with Mannol or VD-40. Next, we unscrew the fastening elements of the suspension arms (or beams, if this is a replacement for the rear silent blocks of the VAZ-2110). Then we release the lever out. In the case of a beam, the repair procedure will have to be done on site.
How to press out the silent block?
The technology does not differ from the location of the rubber-metal seal. It does not matter whether it is or As we said earlier, pressing out is done with a special puller or with a vice. You can use the "grandfather" method. To do this, the old silent block is set on fire and extinguished after a few seconds. So it softens - it is much easier to get such an element. Another way is to use soapy water. 
You can use regular dish detergent or liquid soap. The place of contact of the product with the lever will become slippery, and the part will easily come out.

So, the worn element came out. How to install a new one? Don't set it on fire, like the old one? Pressing a new silent block is carried out using a special tool. It can be made by hand. 
To do this, we take a small pin (long hairpin), put a washer of the appropriate diameter and silent blocks on it. After we string a piece of the tube. It will include the outer part of the rubber silent block. A washer and nut are installed at the end of the tool. The latter, moving along the turns of the stud, will create the necessary pressure. On the other hand, the silent block will hold the second washer. By smoothly twisting the element, you will successfully press the seal into the grooves of the lever or beam. Often there are traces of rust inside the seat. It is recommended to remove it. 
You can do this with sandpaper. But a more effective way is a rust converter. This chemical agent perfectly corrodes corrosion, forming a zinc film on the surface.

When installing the silent block, carefully watch how it goes inside the hole. The element should go as smoothly as possible around the entire circle. When the part is confidently held by rubber collars in the seat, you can safely remove the tool. This completes the silent block replacement procedure. Assembly should be done in reverse order. Can you follow the rules?
It is worth noting that there is no exact regulation for replacing these elements. 
The service life of silent blocks depends on road conditions and driving style. On average, elements fail after 100 thousand kilometers. But you should push off based on the squeaks and knocks of the suspension. If the system makes characteristic sounds, this is a signal to check the condition of the sealing elements.
