Replacing the silent blocks of the rear suspension Ford Focus 2. Step by step instructions

Those motorists who have already replaced the silent blocks of the Ford Focus 2 rear suspension are advised not to contact the services for this matter. Auto repairmen faithfully follow the precepts of Henry Ford, who discovered the secret of an ever-paying business: a cheap car, expensive spare parts, plus put everything the owner needs and does not need.

When you arrive at the service station, intending to change only the silent blocks, they push you with a serious and sympathetic look at the same time to change the levers, and if you give up slack, they will also force you to change the racks, although they are designed for at least 140,000 mileage (for certain types of cars).

Meanwhile, people who have been riding the Focus for more than a year claim that there were no special problems for self-repair of the rear suspension (at least with regard to silent blocks) and are not expected. If the hands are attached to the body with the right end, a normal car owner will cope with the task quite easily. 3-4 hours is enough to fiddle with both silent blocks, unless you really need to change the levers as well (which, we note, are also quite affordable to replace on your own). So go ahead and believe in yourself.

Replacing the silent blocks of the rear suspension Ford Focus 2 it’s more comfortable in a pit or a flyover, but in the absence of these, it’s quite possible to get by with a jack, which anyone can find in the trunk. And how to do this, we will tell you step by step in this article.

When is it time to change the bushings?

In all Ford models, including the Focus 2, these parts are designed to cover 100,000 kilometers. However, a poor coating, combined with an abundance of reagents on it, reduces the life of the silents by half. To understand that the time has come X and it's time to take on the jack and other tools, you can first of all by the hum and knock emitted by the rear suspension.

The next warning sign can be considered grudging obedience to the machine. And if it is supplemented by a constantly twisting toe-in, you can even have no doubt that it's time to buy new silent blocks and replace the old ones. For a guarantee, you can climb under the bottom, clean the corresponding place from dirt and verify your suspicions visually (having new parts in front of your eyes for comparison).

Change old to new

  • The process is quite energy-intensive and will require certain physical strength from you, but let the owner at this time warm the thought of the money saved and the upcoming ride without any problems;
  • The rear axle is jacked up. You can change the silents in turn, rearranging the jack back and forth, but it's better to borrow another jack from a neighbor. You can hang the car on wooden decks or a special goat welded from metal slats;
  • A screed is placed on the spring and tightened. At the service station, the spring is usually removed, but at home you should not make unnecessary gestures;
  • A support is installed under the main lever on which the wheel is mounted;
  • The bolt holding the spring-loaded lever is turned out;
  • The spring itself is pulled out, the lever goes down so as not to interfere at hand;
  • The transverse levers are unscrewed - both lower and upper - along with the shock absorber. The handbrake cable is disconnected;
  • Next, a bolt is unscrewed from below, fixing the wires going; its terminal is disconnected, after which it is possible to unscrew the bolts (2 pieces) securing the transverse lever;
  • The silent block is removed.

The most important moment

Those who are first engaged in replacing silents make the same mistake - they try to knock him out with a sledgehammer. No one has succeeded yet. Press-out only able to remove the silent block from its nest.

There are only 2 options: either go to a service station with a dismantled part and pay a rather small amount of money for pressing out, or (if there is a puller on the farm) order a thick metal cup with the following approximate dimensions for a familiar turner: outer diameter 58 mm, inner diameter 35, depth - 60, height - 70. With the help of such a simple device, the silent is easily squeezed out of its nest.

The new one is pressed into its place in the same way so that its location is the same as the previous one (you need to focus on the "ears"). The car is assembled in reverse order.

In fairness, it should be noted that the replacement of silent blocks of the Ford Focus 2 rear suspension in most cases is accompanied by a change of levers. However, this is not at all a prerequisite: if they are normal, there is no need to spend extra money. Just before you do the silents, ring the levers for their integrity and reliability.
