Thursday during Maslenitsa week was considered the day of veneration of the god Veles (Volos), the patron saint of livestock. On this day, people asked each other for forgiveness. The ceremony of forgiveness took place in the evening, after dinner. Turning to each other, people said: “Please forgive me if I am guilty of anything.” Next could be a list of all possible grievances and offenses for which they asked for forgiveness.
