Rock ballads are a category of songs by rock groups that are distinguished by their slow sound. Among the groups that popularized rock ballads are Led Zeppelin and Scorpions. Each album of these groups always included at least one gorgeous ballad, which allowed them to expand their listening audience. Rolling Stone magazine could not ignore such a popular segment of world rock, so it decided to conduct a survey to determine best rock ballads. Voting, which took place during the week, presented so many options that instead of the usual top 10, it was decided to create a rating of the best ballads from 12 songs.
IN best rock ballads of all time U2's song With or Without You, recorded for the famous album The Joshua Tree, was also included.
Eleventh place went to the song of the legendary The Beatles - Hey, Jude, which is the longest composition of the group, lasting more than 7 minutes. Even though the song was recorded in the last years of the Beatles' work, such a length is uncharacteristic for that time and for The Beatles. Two more songs by the Fab Four were included in the rating.
The usual top ten ballads were opened by the American group Lynyrd Skynyrd, which became famous for two things - the song Sweet Home Alabama (but we are not talking about this song now) and a terrible plane crash that claimed the lives of three members of the group. This rating includes another song by the American group Free Bird, whose length surpasses even the above-mentioned “Hey, Jude”. Moreover, Lynyrd Skynyrd's song became the longest song in the " best rock ballads».
In front of the Americans were another representatives of the United States - the group Pearl Jam, which is considered a successful project that appeared during the formation of grunge and has maintained popularity to this day, and the group did not break up, and none of its members committed suicide. We are hinting at Kurt Cobain. The song "Black" was released on Pearl Jam's debut release and has become a favorite among rock fans over the years. Especially considering that this is a ballad that bears little resemblance to grunge in any of its manifestations.
Above was the work of one of two solo performers who are not related to rock. Marvin Gaye and his song Let's Get It On from the album of the same name over its forty-year history are really worth inclusion in the list of the best ballads, even rock ones! It is worth saying that this Marvin album became revolutionary in rhythm and blues, indecently popularizing the topic of sex .
Representatives of British progressive rock took seventh place. The composition Wish you were here is dedicated to the theme of Syd Barrett, who was the leader of the group at the dawn of its work. It was one of two songs from the rating that were performed at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 (the other was Hey, Jude performed by Sir Paul McCartney).
Slightly higher is Prince's ballad Purple Rain from his extremely successful album of the same name. Prince is the second artist on the list to also be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as is Gaye, although both have more notable accomplishments in rhythm and blues or soul!

The top five opens with the second song of The Beatles – Let it be, which also belongs to the late period of the band’s creativity.
Guns N'Roses and their November rain pour down from fourth place. This composition was supported by a wonderful video that increased the rotation of the hit on MTV. Its distinctive feature is the acceleration of the rhythm at the end, so characteristic of several other songs in the rating.
The top three were opened by the Rolling Stones, which is symbolic for the rating carried out by their almost complete namesakes. The song Wild Horses opened the British catwalk. Total in the list" the best rock ballads in the world"It turned out there were 6 British songs at once, against 5 American ones, and the Irish, of course. Where would we be without them!
Above is the third Beatles track, written by George Harrison - Something. This song became one of George's two masterpieces and certainly the main one in the great band from Liverpool!
A best rock ballad- this is a famous one that needs no introduction. Let's just say that the group that recorded it was repeatedly accused of plagiarizing the introduction to the stairs from the song Taurus by Spirit, released three years earlier. There are indeed similarities, but Page went further, coming up with a delightful sequel, which Plant supplemented with excellent poetry. By the way, Jimmy only allows Robert to sing this song at concerts.
