"Nissan Terrano" and "Renault Duster": comparison, characteristics, test drive. Which is better: Nissan Terrano or Renault Duster. Compare and determine which is better Terrano or Duster.

Nissan Terrano is an updated 2016 model with new features. Renault Dusternew car 2016 with updated data and features.

The biggest difference between the cars is different optics, grille, wheel rims and, of course, bumpers. The rest of the differences are minor - these are the protruding parts on the body and another small update. In general, the appearance of the Japanese turned out to be a mini-variation of a prestigious SUV. As for the "Frenchman", in this regard, he loses a little, since the car is budget. This is a compact SUV. But people have different preferences, so there is no winner in this case.

Interior Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster

Concerning interior decoration, then the steering wheel has changed in the Nissan Terrano, now it has the Nissan logo on it. The deflectors on the center panel are now without a rounded shape, while the side deflectors remain the same. The recesses for various little things that are in a French car are now closed with a lid in a Japanese car. The dashboard remained almost unchanged, only the speedometer with a tachometer was designed differently. In the Japanese they were not changed as we would like, in the French they look prettier.

As for the seats, they remained the same. The multimedia system has been completely changed, the Japanese model has a proprietary Nissan audio system, which is also considered in vain. In the Renault Duster multimedia system, the screen is larger and more intuitive, and the graphics are much more beautiful. But, in the flank variation of the Japanese, the multimedia system is equipped with a rear-view camera, but it is not very comfortable to use it, since the screen is placed very low. But in the French, in the top version there is a steering column control of the multimedia system. Another plus in the Frenchman is a 2-zone climate system. In Japanese, there is only air conditioning.

Final conclusion

In the end, both cars are good in their own way. But personally, I think, even though Nissan Terrano has been updated, I would still choose Renault Duster. They seem to be somewhat similar, but the latter attracts me more. And the price of a Korean car is lower. However, decide for yourself which car you liked more.

We're the same blood! Yes, that's what Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster would say if they could talk. However, despite the blood relationship, buyers face a really difficult choice, which is better - Renault Duster or Nissan Terrano? And this is by no means an exaggeration. At first glance, each applicant is unique in its own way. And if one lures big name and beauty, then the second one inclines towards itself with a lower price, greater cross-country ability and no less flattering reviews of those lucky ones who have already purchased this unit and use it with pleasure.

Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster are crossovers with many similarities

We stood between two crossovers for a long time, trying to discern the differences between Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster, and we succeeded. So, welcome to the battle of Renault Duster vs Nissan Terrano crossovers! Well, the results of this fight will help you once and for all.

Appearance

Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano is one of the most difficult stages of our duel. And there are two reasons for this:

  1. Each motorist has his own taste and his own concepts of beauty.
  2. Both crossovers are very similar in appearance, and it is simply impossible not to recognize one design in them.

However, despite the strong similarity, the Renault Daster is just as different, which, in turn, makes the choice even more difficult, and one can argue about which of them is more attractive ad infinitum.

The main external difference between the two cars is in the headlights, taillights, grille, and bumpers. All other differences are quite minor, and these include protruding lines on the body and other minor restyling. But, despite their stealth, together these little things produce an indelible effect, and strongly distinguish Terrano from the background of the Duster. And in general, outwardly, the Nissan Terrano turned out to be a kind of mini-version, on which you can come to the office and frolic outside the asphalt, install a spare tire on the fifth door, and in general there would be no price for it. Therefore, Renault Duster is still a little in the red in terms of appearance, because its appearance directly indicates that it is a budget, compact all-terrain vehicle for mere mortals. So in the Nissan Terrano vs. Renault Duster duel, after the fight for the best appearance, the score becomes 1: 0 in favor of the first fighter, and we move on to the next stage of the crossover battle.

Salon decoration

So, welcome to the Nissan Terrano showroom! The first thing that catches your eye, which slightly changed its design and acquired the Nissan emblem. The deflectors in the center of the panel have lost their round shape, which has taken root in Renault, but for some reason the side ones remained unchanged. The niche for all sorts of little things that Duster possessed in Terrano is now closed with a lid. The instrument panel has remained virtually unchanged, except for a slightly modified design of the tachometer and speedometer. By the way, not very successfully changed, so they look prettier in the Duster.

Armchairs entirely migrated from Duster without any changes. But the multimedia component has undergone a complete replacement. Terrano installed a proprietary Nissan audio system, and again in vain. The audio system in Renault has a larger display, clearer and more beautiful graphical execution of the software, as well as a higher screen resolution, which allows you to get a better image. However, in the top version of Terrano, it is built into the audio system, which, by the way, is not very convenient to use due to the very low location of the display. But, on the other hand, the Duster has a steering column control of the audio system.

Another benefit of the Renault Duster is its dual-zone climate control, while the Nissan only offers air conditioning. Everything else remains the same. Therefore, given the unfortunate, light interior modification in Terrano, we award Renault one point, and the score becomes 1:1.

Powertrain and ride quality

Well, it's time for a power struggle between Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster. This part is one of the most important criteria, because the key factor is not only the external and internal appearance of the car, but also how it will drive.

First, let's look at the Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster engine lines. When purchasing Nissan, motorists have the opportunity to choose between two types of gasoline units. The first absorbed a volume of 1.6 liters and produces 102 horses with a torque of 145 N * m, and the second contained two liters and instead provided 135 horses with a torque of 191 N * m.

Test drive of the Nissan Terrano:

Sparsely, of course, but you don’t need more, choosing a two-liter version, you get everything you need for a small crossover. Moreover, if you prefer automatic transmission, then you have no choice, since the machine only comes with a kopeck piece and. For some reason, Nissan decided not to equip all-wheel drive with automatic equipment at all.

Duster looks much more attractive against this background. You have three to choose from, one diesel and two gasoline. The diesel unit comes only with an all-wheel drive version, has a volume of one and a half liters and produces ninety horses at a torque of 200 N * m. It is worth noting that this is the most economical version of all, the consumption in general mode will be only 5.3 liters per hundred. Gasoline engines are similar to two Nissan ones, 1.6 and 2.0 respectively. However, the two-liter version of the Duster has a little more traction and produces 195 N * m against 191 for the Terrano. Both units are available for both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models.

Another important advantage of Renault is that it is equipped with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive two-liter versions. Diesel and petrol 1.6 are completed only with mechanics. Otherwise, Nissan and Renault are all the same, the same magnetic clutch from Murano, the same MacPherson strut front suspension with telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers, and the same rear multi-link. By the way, in both crossovers, this suspension works off-road with a bang, but it’s better to forget about comfort due to excessive rigidity.

Test drive of a Renault Duster car:

As for cross-country ability, in comparison with Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster, the latter looks more confident. This is facilitated by the unpainted lower part of the bumpers, with which you can not be afraid of scratches while making your way through the thickets, and the Duster also has the ability to overcome steeper ascents and descents. The Terrano has less steep entry and exit due to the new bumper design.

There is no need to wait for any significant differences when driving, in general, the behavior of cars both on the road and off the road surface is the same. The same can be said for . Therefore, Renault Duster gets one point, for a richer range of engines, for the opportunity to purchase an all-wheel drive version with an automatic, as well as for a little more freedom on the roads. And the score in the duel between Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano becomes 2:1 in favor of the Frenchman, and we move on to the next and final stage of the battle of crossovers.

Fight for cost

The price is the main criterion for most motorists, so it’s impossible not to say about it, especially since the price tag is almost the main difference between Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster.

As they say, beauty requires sacrifice, and Nissan decided to sacrifice an affordable price for the sake of a beautiful appearance. Judge for yourself, the cost of a front-wheel drive Terrano with a 1.6 engine and a manual transmission starts at 719,700 rubles, and the minimum price for a Duster with a similar technical filling is 554,000 rubles. True, Nissan for such a price comes with painted bumpers, with front power windows, with a separate backrest of the rear sofa, which folds in a ratio of 60 to 40, with air conditioning, two airbags and. But the price of a Duster in the same configuration as that of Terrano is still less - 642,000 rubles.

The top version with a two-liter engine, all-wheel drive and a manual transmission from Nissan costs 932,200 rubles, while the Duster in a similar version is limited to 844,000 rubles. And even with an automatic, the all-wheel drive Duster in the maximum configuration costs 882,000, which is 50,200 rubles cheaper than the Terrano with mechanics. And therefore, without a doubt, one point is awarded to Renault Duster, and the score becomes 3:1 in favor of the Frenchman. Renault's victory in this battle showed that beauty is not the main thing, and the car should be chosen not only with the eyes, but also with all other parts of the body.

It's up to you to decide for Nissan, and our verdict is this: Nissan Terrano, with its fashionable appearance and big name, is more suitable for young people, and Renault Duster will always be held in high esteem among lovers of simplicity, reliability and versatility, because the Frenchman will always pass where the Japanese "bite" nose."

Mas Motors

Nissan Terrano looks similar to Renault Duster, so motorists have questions: what is better, how they differ and what to choose in the end? Hence the desire arises to compare the Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster and feel the difference.

It is important to understand that the Terrano series originally represented SUVs. After the creation of the alliance of the two concerns, the status quo changed. Now Terrano has become a clone of the French compact crossover. No wonder Duster and Terrano are called brothers. The latter gives only

  • "reserve" under the bottom;
  • "Nissan" motifs in design;
  • more representative exterior.

Yes, they are different:

  • bumper;
  • block headlights and taillights;
  • front facing;
  • noticeable differences in the design of the disks.
  • But these are trifles. However, with a striking (see photo) external similarity, inside, in the filling, there are significant differences.

The Duster has an advanced multimedia combine with:

  • bluetooth;
  • effective navigator;
  • engine start function by timer or remotely.

Yes, and the torpedo of the "Frenchman" is generally more attractive. Another plus adds dual-zone climate control, and the competitor offers only air conditioning.

But Terrano has its own advantages - its signature feature is:

  • exclusive equipment with an online rear-view camera (in the top version);
  • partial chrome plating of the panel;
  • front seat height adjustment.

Engine

The Terrano does not have a diesel option, so the all-wheel drive Duster has a serious benefit here - a 1500 cc diesel “engine”. cm, 109 hp and fuel consumption of 5.8 l/100 km for the urban cycle or 5.3 l/100 km in general mode. Gasoline engines are the same: with a volume of 1600 cubic meters. cm and 102 hp or from 2000 cu. cm and 135 hp Consumption for the second: city - 10.3 l; track - 6.5 l. Front-wheel drive Duster with a volume of 1600 cc. cm in the city will burn 9.6 liters, Terrano - 9.8 liters.

The comparative test for petrol modifications shows slight differences in technical indicators. But with a practically equal curb weight (~ 1.4 tons), length (~ 4.33 m) and width (1.82 m). Duster is more carrying capacity - 0.5 tons versus 0.454 tons.

Driving performance

Both crossovers have 2 versions:

  • all-wheel drive;
  • monodrive.

True, the “two-liter” Duster (along with a 6-speed manual) has a 4-speed automatic transmission for both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions, which its competitor cannot boast of. The test drive demonstrated the absolute identity of the cars in driving, which is also confirmed by the video on http://avtomotoprof.ru/. True, experts tend to argue that, ideally, Duster is more suitable for villager, and Terrano is for urban.

Price

The cost factor clearly plays against Terrano (~ 850,000 rubles, max 950,000 rubles). Although, with the current financial instability, the budget Duster () has become out of reach for the domestic buyer.

conclusions

If we keep in mind the latest models, then it was the Duster that appeared first in 2011 that is considered the prototype of Terrano-2014. In turn, Terrano-2014 cannot be called the prototype of the Duster-2015 restyling.

When comparing the two brands, it must be remembered that the brainchild of Nissan in the auto world is associated with:

  • a certain image (elegance of the body);
  • traditional aggressive style combined with Japanese quality;
  • a solid pedigree in terms of the production of all-terrain vehicles.

At new development Renault, inherited from Dacia, history is less rich. But:

  • under the external unsightliness and the hood, the Duster hides technological units that are economical for its class;
  • in terms of traction and cross-country ability, it resembles a buggy.

In addition, thanks to optimal balance"price - quality" the latter in 2015 continued to rapidly gain popularity, risking to acquire the universal fame of a people's car (although, for obvious reasons, this season in the Russian Federation is marked by a decline in sales). But for those who prefer:

  • stability;
  • respectability;
  • more options;

they will, of course, choose Terrano, since the "Frenchman" does not possess these properties.

You won't believe it - even when I was driving around Moscow in an Audi R8, people around me paid less attention to me. And now I feel like a real movie star. Who just sits behind the wheel of a Nissan Terrano. It is understandable. Terrano is a real alternative to the already boring, but invariably hit Duster. You should have seen with what hungry eyes the owners of French crossovers looked at Terrano! With the release of the "Japanese" version, their cars became outdated at once and lost their solidity and attractiveness - after all, at first glance, for the same money you can buy exactly the same, only newer and a little more status. Let's check if this is actually the case.

Newer?

Terrano, in addition to being newer, also looks more expensive: it has differently painted roof rails, sills and glazing area, a towing eye in rear bumper covered with a plug, the rims have an intricate pattern and a two-tone color, and the plastic lining peeps out of the arches, which the Duster is deprived of. And most importantly - the front and rear optics of a modern Nissan design and a recognizable front grille, which gives the new Terrano an unambiguous resemblance to the flagship Patrol. A typical set of measures for some kind of restyling, but here the Duster turned out to be a whole new model another brand. However, in the silhouette of the new Nissan crossover, the Renault crossover is completely recognizable. And there's nothing you can do about it.

Maybe something significant has changed inside? Certainly! These are: the steering wheel cushion, the design of the pockets on the front panel, the tidy, the shape of the central air vents, the materials for the execution of some parts and, most importantly, the multimedia system. And if all other metamorphoses are unlikely to have any serious significance, then with the on-board entertainment and multimedia complex, Nissan missed. Their system has a worse screen resolution, less beauty and convenience in the interface, and simply does not fit into the interior as organically as compared to the similar Duster system. But for Terrano, a rear-view camera is offered, which is inaccessible to Duster. He only fends off with a successful, but less essential music control panel on the steering column. Otherwise, you can not look for differences - inside they turned out to be even smaller than outside.

More solid?

I suppose that for many, the magic of the Nissan brand will be more attractive than the Renault diamond on the radiator grill - Japanese cars have always been respected in our country. And the Terrano name itself is worth a lot: previous generations of the model have proven themselves to be strong and hardy. But if earlier owning a Terrano meant having a serious car, today it means that you have a budget crossover based on Logan. Which, however, does not detract from its merits at all - it’s just that Terrano was actually lowered in rank, demoted to a class or two, and the nameplate was moved to a car that was different in spirit. From this point of view, Nissan marketers made a tough, but justifying act: even though this is not the same Terrano, many people will want to own a car with a big name, all other things being equal.

Is there a difference on the go?

Purely technically, both heroes of our test are the same car. Except for more interest, we took the Duster with a 1.6-liter engine (102 hp, 145 Nm), and the Terrano - in a two-liter version (135 hp, 191 Nm). The all-wheel drive transmission and the design of manual transmissions are the same for both rivals. Since the entire technical stuffing of Duster and Terrano is shared without changes, the differences on the go were reduced to the difference power units and gearboxes. In other words, no matter what brand you prefer, cars will drive the same way. Ride, noise isolation, handling - all the same. At least, when transferring from one car to another and back during the test, none of our drivers felt any difference.

But just in case, let's recall how the "terranodaster" rides. The six-speed gearbox of the two-liter version is good for its versatility: the ultra-short first stage largely replaces the “downshift”, helping out great off-road, but driving in the city with this transmission is difficult. First or second? You will be answering this question at every traffic light for a long time after the purchase. This problem is less noticeable on version 1.6, but there is another snag - the motor. The 102-horsepower unit with which the new Logan is so good is desperately lacking in the heavier Duster - if you need a peppy ride in the city, you will have to turn it to a squeal, and overtaking on the highway with such an engine is best done when no one is visible on the oncoming lane .

But as soon as you transfer to a more powerful car, you no longer have to think about the lack of traction. The two-liter engine pulls perfectly even at medium speeds and gives the crossover quite confident dynamics in any conditions. But the combination of motor-transmission in terms of smoothness and ease of traction control still seemed a little more successful in the case of 1.6 - a two-liter engine captivates only with power, although this is significant in the case of Terrano and Duster. The suspension is good: without a hint of softness, but impenetrable and, as the practice of using Dusters, is very hardy. The reactions of cars to a too tight steering wheel are understandable and predictable, but completely devoid of grace and delicacy - here the Duster looks even more honest, because it does not hide behind Nissan nameplates. However, Almera has already somehow evoked such feelings.

So how much is a name worth?

Let's be honest: all these new bumper grilles, nameplates, upholstery pockets and even a multimedia system (especially since Renault has it better) are not something for which Nissan Terrano buyers would prefer to overpay for exactly the same car. They will add for the name and - at first - for the novelty. So how much does it cost to own the "legendary" Terrano instead of the Duster? Renault costs from 492 thousand for the most empty single-wheel drive version with 1.6 and mechanics. Nissan with the same set of units - already 677 thousand! Of course, the equipment of the latter is much richer, but the fact remains: the price is much higher. And now, using the example of equally packed cars, let's try to estimate how much the Nissan nameplate costs in its pure form.

Let's take two-liter all-wheel drive cars with mechanics in the “closer to the top” configurations: this is Terrano Elegance for 815,000 rubles and Duster Privilege for 708,000. For parity, we will equip the latter with a stabilization system for 15,000 and additional airbags for 15,500 - a total of 738,500 rubles. It turns out that the name Terrano as such costs 76,500 rubles! Let's test ourselves on the affordable all-wheel drive Terrano Comfort with a 102-horsepower engine for 735 thousand. A similar Duster Expression with options in the form of air conditioning, a stabilization system and a passenger airbag will cost 663 thousand. Accordingly, the difference between the two cars will be 72,000, the order is the same as in the example above. 70k difference? Not really. We must not forget that Renault is not behaving quite honestly towards customers and takes extra money for delivering cars to the dealer's door (Nissan does not do this - another one, albeit small, but "a plus in karma" for the Japanese). And this amount ranges from six to several tens of thousands of rubles! And this means that the farther you live from Moscow, the less profitable Renault becomes.

And finally

Do you want a comparative test of the new Terrano with the Chevrolet Niva? ! Just ignore the photos and the word Renault in the text.

Not nostalgic for the dashing nineties? Remember how then it was fashionable to tune the Zhiguli at random? Zubilists appreciated aggressive racing body kits and louder silencers, and among the owners of a dozen, it was especially chic to put a Mercedes-Benz or BMW-style radiator grille. It would seem, what does the Nissan Terrano have to do with it?

honest name

Photos of the Russian Nissan Terrano

No need to resort to spectral analysis to understand: the new Nissan Terrano is a regular Renault Duster. He is also a modified Dacia Duster. Okay, today you won’t surprise anyone with badge engineering, and the move with the renaming of Dacia to Renault for Russia and some other countries was logical - not to open a dealer network of a new brand with an ambiguous image from scratch. And now, for some reason, Duster has become a Nissan.

Almost all body panels on the Nissan Terrano are new. But the power structure of the body has remained unchanged, so Renault Duster peeps obsessively through Terrano's new clothes.

In the photographs, the camouflage from Nissan looks quite convincing. The Terrano has a solid grille, fashionable designer wheels, large taillights and differently shaped door panels. And one more thing: the roof rails and bumpers have changed, plus the central pillars of the body are painted black, and not in body color - this way the silhouette looks more harmonious.

But live - still turned out Renault Duster.

The salon was generally deprived of attention: there is only a slightly modernized front panel with a plastic cover at the top, updated instruments, other air ducts, its own steering wheel and a new multimedia system. Not much. Moreover, for some reason, Nissan abandoned the music control pad under the steering wheel, and the top versions of the Duster have a multimedia system with a larger screen. But in the most sophisticated Tekna configuration, the Nissan Terrano has a rear-view camera, while the Duster does not.

In terms of technology, everything is also familiar: gasoline engines 1.6 (102 horsepower) or 2.0 (135 horsepower), front or four-wheel drive, mechanical box with a reduction in first gear or a four-band automatic. And the angles of entry and exit due to the new bumpers at Nissan turned out to be even slightly smaller. But ground clearance the same as that of the Duster - 210 millimeters.

Moreover, the basic Nissan equipment - Comfort with a 102-horsepower gasoline engine, front-wheel drive and mechanics - costs 677 thousand rubles, more expensive than Renault by 185 thousand! Sorry for what? Maybe the badge should have been changed to Infiniti?

The rear lights certainly look a lot better than those of the Renault Duster. Yes, the wheels are trendy.

No, of course, the right marketers work in the Renault-Nissan alliance, so the difference in price is not only for differences in appearance. The base of the Terrano includes frontal airbags, air conditioning, ABS, a split rear sofa, an MP3 audio system with Bluetooth and a USB port, as well as front power windows. Renault Duster in a similar configuration will cost 591 thousand rubles - only 86 thousand cheaper.

86 thousand for a new logo and a different look? Yes, the owners of a dozen of the nineties for this money would have remade them even under a Bentley, even under a starship!

But this is only the beginning. The most affordable Terrano with all-wheel drive (the same 102-horsepower engine, manual transmission and Comfort version) costs 735 thousand, and the equipment with an automatic machine (also Comfort, but the engine is already a two-liter, 135-horsepower) is at least 762 thousand. For comparison, the base Duster with all-wheel drive will cost 558 thousand (with a 1.6 engine).

For 12 months of last year, Duster sold 83,702 copies and entered the top three best-selling foreign cars in Russia. Terrano is unlikely to be able to repeat this success.

The price for the top version of Tekna with a two-liter engine and all-wheel drive is off scale - 885 thousand. In addition, such a Terrano will be with mechanics: unlike Renault Duster, a combination of a two-liter engine, all-wheel drive and automatic box there are no gears for it. As there is no option with a diesel engine.

The pluses include the fact that some options for Terrano will be a little cheaper: for example, the surcharge for all-wheel drive is 58 thousand rubles against 66 thousand for Duster. Metallic color - nine thousand versus ten for Renault. But these are trifles - the main thing is that the Nissan Terrano in all versions except the base one is equipped with a stabilization system that turns it into a solid rogue even without differential locks. On Duster, it is listed as an option even in the most expensive modification.

It feels like there is no difference in the operation of the suspension on the Duster and Terrano. This means that Nissan will cope with broken country roads no worse than its French brother.
