Vote in the live chronicle contest. cultural policy

On October 26, the pilot stage of the literary competition “Living Chronicle. The fate of the family in the history of the country.

For six months, schoolchildren from the Arkhangelsk region prepared books about the history of their own families for publication. More than 100 schools of the Arkhangelsk region participated in the competition, and more than 350 texts were uploaded to the Ridero publishing system. Many of the works submitted to the competition by authors aged 12 to 17 turned out to be genuine literature.

Thanks to the support of the regional government, Pomorye schools will continue to participate in the project next year. In his greetings to the laureates of the competition, Governor I.A. Orlov noted: Often the history of our Motherland appears before the child in the classroom in the form of dry texts of textbooks, studying it is memorizing important numbers and dates. Such information is difficult to perceive on a personal level. The competition provided an opportunity to create a "living story" based on personal and family memories. Connect the history of several generations of your family with the history of our country and our region. It really turned out to be a living story!»

All texts written by young authors can be readon the Living Chronicle page in Ridero . Teams from entire schools participated in the project. Participants uploaded finished works to the Ridero publishing service. On the book page of the Living Chronicle, a popular vote was held - thousands of users voted for their favorite works. Together with them, the works of young authors were evaluated by a qualified jury. Jury member Alisa Grebenshchikova flew to Arkhangelsk specifically to announce the winners and congratulate the laureates. " People who can tell the story of their own family were important hundreds of years ago - and today everyone loves them too, and in a hundred years they will be remembered».

ARKHANGELSK, October 27 - RIA Novosti. The Arkhangelsk region was the first in the country to join the all-Russian project "Living Chronicle. The Fate of the Family in the History of the Country," a RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

Schoolchildren of Pomorye became the authors of collections dedicated to their native land. In their literary works, students of grades 6-11 from six dozen schools in the region tried to tell the story of their family, showing how closely it is intertwined with the history of Russia. In total, more than 350 texts were submitted for the competition. Teachers coordinated the process and participated in compiling collections.

At the end of the competition, the government of the region awarded the participants whose works were recognized as the best. The jury, which evaluated the work of young northerners, included theater and film actress Alisa Grebenshchikova and TV presenter Tutta Larsen, and was headed by the regional governor Igor Orlov.

Aleksey Alsufiev, Chairman of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region, joined in honoring the winners. “You correlated the annals of your families with the events that took place in our country in the past, very difficult times. It is very important to know the history of your state, your land, your family. And it’s wonderful that in the year of the 80th anniversary of our region, we had the honor pilot region and open this competition," the prime minister said.

According to the organizers of the competition, some works can be called genuine literature, but the most important thing is that all the stories have an amazing, lively intonation.

Alisa Grebenshchikova noted that all the competition entries breathe love and sincerity, they show dedication and immersion in their research. “This is a passion for both the history of their own family and the history of the country. People who own a pen and know how to act as chroniclers have always been valued. And what these guys have done today is very valuable,” she is sure.

Thanks to the support of the governor, schoolchildren of the Arkhangelsk region will continue to participate in the project next year. According to Orlov, the competition instills family values in young people, makes it possible to compare and correlate the collected facts with the events that took place in the country, to understand that behind the numbers and dates are the fates, lives of people, including their ancestors.

Young writers who have already participated in the project "Living Chronicle. The Fate of the Family in the History of the Country" received as a reward for their work published collections with their works and many other prizes. The most unexpected gift turned out to be postcards autographed by science fiction writer George Martin, whose works are based on the cult television series Game of Thrones.

Competition “Live chronicle. The fate of the family in the history of the country”, the results of which were summed up in Arkhangelsk last week, can hardly be regarded as a purely cultural event - in this capacity, the essay competition on family history, organized by the Book Institute, the Ridero publishing house and the administration of the Arkhangelsk region, looks quite obvious. More interesting in the Living Chronicle is the non-obvious - the possibility of observing the transformation of the language of the authors of the essay, diverging from the accepted ideas about what history is and what can happen in it.

The creator of the Book Institute, Alexander Gavrilov, obviously understood perfectly well the practical guarantee of the success of the project, which from 2018 will be scaled up (and, apparently, already with the support of the presidential administration) in many regions of the country. The boom of “private memory” projects in Russia, which is basically similar to similar stories in Central Europe in the 1920s and 1930s, is obvious, and it makes no sense to look for a reflection of the pathos of “nation-building” in it - ideologists and historians always do an excellent job with this. . In the case of the Living Chronicle, the value for historical science of several hundred essays written by schoolchildren in the Arkhangelsk region on the basis of family stories is limited: scientists work with such material in a fundamentally different way.

The importance of what is happening is not at all in this. We are dealing with a large corpus of purely modern texts about family stories written by today's young people - and, moreover, not within the set standards of an educational narrative. In this sense, the Institute of the Book project is more of a literary project, in which the modern language of non-professional description of history in a family context is the main character. For the last 20 years, we have dealt mainly with the professional works of anthropologists, historians and writers, who quite productively correlate the “family” and “state” historical contexts. Arkhangelsk texts are a fundamentally different phenomenon, to some extent the reverse side of such works, this is what remains in the language.

The results of 2017 for the Living Chronicle will be presented in the form of a book of selected essays at the Moscow Non/fiction fair. Some of Ridero's big works were published as prizes for the contestants. In the meantime, it makes sense to tell what in the future big book and in these smaller books differs from what we are used to thinking about "folk history."

The first is the predictable, but surprisingly categorical choice of "historical events" in the family context. The depth of the family history of the Arkhangelsk texts, as a standard, does not exceed 150 years; in general, the “history supported by memories” in the understanding of the Arkhangelsk families is a rather narrow time period from the 20s to the 50s of the 20th century. There are three major events in it: collectivization, World War II with the post-war years and the Great Terror. The absence in the texts seems important, and this is something like an intergenerational consensus, a "second side", an enemy and an opponent - the point is not even that repression and collectivization in the essay have no actors and institutions at all (as there is no and any noticeable "state", which at first looks shocking). In the obligatory episodes of the military-family history, which was previously characteristic only for the narratives of the First World War, there are actually no Germans / fascists as an opposing force. Moreover, although the families-authors of the essays are, of course, for the most part city dwellers, the texts are to a large extent a "peasant" look at great historical events, the meaning of which is in the tragic and irresistible interference of impersonal external forces in the normal course of self-organized life. Life itself, and this is no less striking, is largely not career or political stories, but stories of love and family building, private life at its core; "outside world" refers to this narrative, but never backwards. It is very significant that these stories are now also capturing the “empty times” at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, known in Russia almost exclusively from professional works. In general, the folk history of the first post-war decades is known to the people themselves mainly in professional processing, and in communication it usually exists as a low-quality derivative of historical works, supplemented by suitable episodes from everyday life and memoirs; in competitive essays, this is not the case at all.

Of particular interest in the Arkhangelsk texts is the "inanimate" part of the narrative - the interpretation and transformation by the authors of the layers of official ideologemes of different times. One can only say that in general there is no fundamentally new way of interacting with these constructions in the Arkhangelsk texts - it is almost always a borrowed language of description, applied locally and mostly alien. The negative result for the Arkhangelsk region - a region with a centuries-old tradition of high literacy, religious, secular and professional reading, unusually active external contacts with other cultures - is important. The Living Chronicle, like most Russian texts about history, is, of course, not free from external clichés. But there is also something in the corpus that cannot be produced artificially - this is a modern language for describing personal history outside of social clichés that the texts reproduce, but isolate very clearly. Such a language is possible, just like several decades and several centuries ago, one can be convinced of this, for this one does not need to go to the ends of the world, Arkhangelsk is enough.

To make your book real, you should talk to your parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts, and older friends. During the conversation, you will definitely have your own questions - ask them too!

  1. Where are your family members from? From the Arkhangelsk region or immigrants? What made them go to new places? And for those who have never moved anywhere, what and how has changed in their lives?
  2. What did your relatives do and where did they work 15-30-50 years ago? What happened to your ancestors 100 years ago? How far can you trace your family history?
  3. About which of your kind in the family stories are told. Who is most often remembered? Why?
  4. What are your family traditions? Are there any historical dates or events that are especially important for your family? Why?
  5. What item in your home reminds you of family history? These can be old books or jewelry, pieces of furniture, awards or handmade items, photographs or paintings. It could even be a grandfather's motorcycle or a shed built in the last century!
  6. What hobbies did your family members have 15-30-50 years ago? How many contemporaries shared these hobbies with them? Do you have photos or things related to these activities?
  7. Do you have memories in your family connected with the theater or painting, with beautiful handmade things, with trips to the museum or something else noticeable in the cultural life of Arkhangelsk and the region?
  8. Have you traveled with your family in the Arkhangelsk region? What do you remember about these travels?
  9. What traditional holiday dish does your family have and where did this tradition come from?

Perhaps it will be interesting for you, together with representatives of the older generation, to compile a genealogical tree of your family, to mark on it who was born when, what they did, was interested in how they lived their lives. Just draw the largest sheet of paper, marking on it everyone you can remember.

Of course, it will be more interesting to talk about some of the things listed above than about others, and some important topics are not mentioned at all here. You don't have to include all of them in your work, it would be very cool to come up with your own. The writer, journalist, chronicler differs from the soulless automaton in that they seek and describe their own stories.
Books by different authors can be completely different from each other: one person will write a detailed historical commentary on the recipe for a grandmother's pie, another an investigation into dents in a bicycle frame, a third a story of three generations, and a fourth a poem about one day. This is fine! The more original your essay is, the more readers will be fascinated by the history of your family.
