I started writing music as a teenager. I signed my first contract at 19 and have been releasing albums ever since. Just released the sixth.
Ten Love Songs is an ambitious record. Do I understand correctly that it took a lot of time to build the dramaturgy, to impose all the layers and place all the accents? Was the process difficult?
First of all, thank you! And yes, the process was not fast: it took two years to record the album, although I will not lie, I worked intermittently. At this time, she traveled a lot, so she managed to work in almost a dozen studios. I was inspired by the same travels, films, other people's music and just life.
You can hear echoes of ABBA in your music: all this melancholy, reworked into peppy pop music. Consciously looked back at the Swedish four?
I would not say, it is rather our Scandinavian "trick". We all grew up here listening to ABBA songs, I love them very much myself, so they probably inspired me somehow, but rather on a subconscious level. In general, Scandinavian music is very different. The Swedes are experts in pop music, while metal and electronic music thrive in Norway. Perhaps this is how we try to fight the darkness, creating something creative and bright!
Ten Love Songs features a variety of instruments: unhurried piano, epic organ, deafening synthesizers, and menacing drums. Was it hard to write it all down? How did you decide what to add?
It wasn't difficult. It was just necessary to calculate everything, mix it up and record it in different studios so that everything that I wanted sounded on the album: celesta, harpsichord, violins, drums and organ. But it was also the most enjoyable stage in the recording of the album. Initially, you have all these “drafts” in your hands, you listen to them a hundred times, compose, compare. And then the song finally comes to life before your eyes: here it is, ready! This is a real thrill!
The album turned out to be both dramatic and even cinematic. Should we expect spectacular concerts and clips with an unusual video sequence? It seems to me that it can be made into a musical about lovers with a difficult fate. I give you an idea!
Cool idea! I really like the spectacular lighting and visual effects at concerts - the main thing is that I can afford them. In general, I will do everything as big as I can, I promise!
This record has already begun to bring you international fame (for example, we are talking for the Russian Cosmo). What would you like to try in the future?
I've been in this industry for so long that, frankly, there's not much that surprises me anymore. For me, the main thing is to make the kind of music that I want to make.
What kind of music attracts you as a listener?
Now I'm listening to the latest Beck album in a circle. It's so beautiful and layered, and every time I listen, I find new details on it that give me goosebumps. Not an album, but fantastic!
Are you familiar with Russian culture?
Recently I read The Master and Margarita, I really liked it. I know that the novel is full of cultural references that foreigners do not understand, but I still think that this is a great work. I love Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky. I confess that I have not yet read Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, but I plan to!
Bremnes became interested in music at a fairly young age; through the efforts of her brother, Ola Bremnes, she began listening to Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa, Donovan, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel ( Simon and Garfunkel), The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Kari did not immediately think about her own musical career; she fully matured this decision after graduating from the university.
Kari was educated at the University of Oslo; according to the diploma, Bremnes is a master of linguistics, literature, history and theater. For some time after graduation, Kari was engaged in journalism; in addition, she managed to try herself as an actor and even an employee of a psychiatric hospital. Later, Kari decided to fully devote herself to music.
Kari's first recording, "Folk i husan", was released in 1980; helped record this song Bremnes all the same brother Ola. In 1980, Bremnes performed at the next Eurovision Song Contest; Alas, she failed to show a particularly impressive result. During this period, Kari still continued to work as a journalist (in "Nationen" and "Aftenposten"); she finally left the press world later.
Bremnes waited for a real breakthrough only in 1987; it was in this year that her first solo album, "Mitt ville hjerte", was released. The record came out under the auspices of "KKV" and was received more than warmly. Together with Kari, Petter Henriksen and Erik Hillestad worked on the disc. It was the success of this record that convinced Kari that she still had a future in the world of music - and that there was not the slightest reason to be scattered, also doing journalism. Soon the album brought Bremnes the Grammy Award, finally convincing her of the correctness of the chosen path.
In 1987, Kari Bremnes won the Spellemannprisen for her composition Mitt ville hjerte, and in 1991 another Bremnes was awarded for Spor. The third time Kari won this award was in 2001; this time, her brothers, Lars and Ola, took part in the recording of the award-winning composition "Soloye".
Kari's second album, "Blå krukke", was released in 1989; the songs included on it were written by Bremnes personally. To some extent, the character and style of the lyrics were influenced by Kari's pregnancy. The release of the new album was undertaken by Erik Hillestad.
By the current moment, there are already a lot of albums for Kari Bremnes; some she performed and recorded on her own, while other musicians also participated in the rest. Kari has worked with her brothers on several occasions; in addition, she was assisted by Lars Klevstrand, Ole Paus and Mari Boine. Among the range of awards Kari has received, three Grammys stand out; Bremnes was nominated for a Grammy six more times, but failed to win.
Tours by Kari Bremnes took place in Japan (Japan) and France (France), Germany (Germany) and Austria (Austria); in Germany, Bremnes is for some reason especially warmly received. Kari is rightfully considered one of the best Norwegian singers of our time; her music itself embodies the spirit of Norwegian art, all its melancholy and sincerity. Interestingly, the appearance of Kari with her music contrasts pretty much - from the Bremnes side, it looks more like an opera diva; This contrast, however, gives Bremnes a special charm.

Equally high is the rock "Church Pulpit" (Prekestolen) - a mountain shelf that rises 600 meters above Lysefjord in Rogaland.
Norway is a long and narrow country with a coast that is as beautiful, amazing and diverse as the rest of its territory. Wherever you are, the sea is always near you. It is not surprising, therefore, that the Norwegians are such experienced and skillful seafarers. For a long time, the sea was the only way connecting the coastal regions of Norway - with its coastline extended for many thousands of kilometers.

She was born and raised in Ålesund, surrounded by endless seas and majestic Norwegian mountains. We can say that it was only thanks to her brother that she was able to become a singer, since it was he who forced her to start a musical career. And all because he was also a musician and wanted her to join his world. So her brother gave her two weeks to write the song. The singer only had one week to complete this task. 
Further successes
At the age of 16, she signed a contract with the Norwegian recording studio Indie Petroleum. For her, all this happened amazingly quickly, since she could not imagine such an incredible success. After a short period of time, she moves to Bergen because she likes the musical atmosphere here.
She released her debut single from Island, "Don't Kill My Vibe", in 2017. The song has been recorded in Norway, Australia, Scotland and the United Kingdom. Sigrid also performed at the Glastonbury Park Arena. The Guardian newspaper even suggested that Sigrid could be a worthy headliner for the festival in the coming years. She was also part of the video game The Sims 4: Parenthood soundtrack with a simple version of her hit song "Don't Kill My Vibe". Sigrid performed at the Reading Festival in August 2017.
