Resonance Symphony Orchestra official. Head of Resonance: this music gives me goosebumps every time The Ukrainian Chamber Symphony Orchestra promised to bring a new program in October of this year

Resonance is not a rock band or a symphony orchestra, but something in between. The musicians are in classic black suits. Just like their colleagues in some eminent theater, they rebuild violins, violas and cellos before a concert. But instead of Bach or Verdi, there are Pink Floyd and Queen with Freddie Mercury in the notes, and before the concert, the musicians spend not a rehearsal, but a sound check. Somewhere on the Internet, someone reproached the team for not having the right to declare “symphony orchestra” on posters, but the head of Resonance has an answer to this.

We don't really have wind instruments, we have strings and percussion. But it is correct, it is accepted. We are not deceiving anyone. We indicate “symphony orchestra” on the posters, but we always write “chamber group,” explained Vitaly Fedorenko, technical director of Resonance.

The Ukrainian group Resonance appeared two years ago. Its creators decided to play at the intersection of classical and rock and repeat the success of the Finnish cello band Apocalyptica. The original cover versions for Resonance are made by one arranger, whose name is kept secret, like a trade secret.

He is a professional musician who has lived his whole life with music. He still continues to write for us, - Vitaly Fedorenko only dryly explains.

After the sound check, the musicians themselves admit that it is not so easy to play rock on the violins.

There are many difficulties, the main one is that rock music implies heaviness. Metal is a heavy sound. The electric guitar is a different sound, the principle of extracting sound there is completely different than that of wooden stringed instruments. So we need to change the style of the game. But we decided that the violin should remain a violin, - said Diana Nagornaya, the "first violin" of Resonance. The task of her instrument was in many ways to replace the bright vocals of rock stars.

The group consists of 13 professional musicians with a classical education and one drummer. All young people - the average age in the team is 25 years. But with violins, violas, cellos and double basses, they are perfectly controlled.

This tour is called "yellow", but you should not look for any connection with the colors of the Ukrainian flag here.

We are out of politics. We are from different cities of Ukraine. Yellow Tour emerged before the start of all these events - May 22, 2013. And we paint our programs in different colors according to our feelings, - the musicians emphasized.

The group has been on a big tour since February 20 this year. They traveled all over Russia, they conquer the Far East and will finish the big trip on April 30 in Rostov. Director Vitaly Fedorenko talks about big victories in a half-hoarse voice - he has a terrible cold. But he has no moral right to suspend the tour: sold out everywhere, the audience is waiting.

And here is the first composition. There was an anxious expectation. A lot of musicians gathered in the hall, but already in the first seconds the musicians were covered with applause. This was learned from Another Brick in the Wall in 1979 from Pink Floyd's repertoire. Young and happy Roger Waters, David Gilmour and other members of the legendary team look at the audience from the big screen. Staged photos for posters and magazines are replaced by pictures from stadium concerts, from which powerful energy emanates.

It's time for The Beatles, Come Together, and then AC/DC - Back in Black.

Of course, rock hits in symphonic processing sound completely different. In some, the difference is barely noticeable, in others new accents are affixed.

Yes, in principle, it's good, only, it seems, the violin is knocked out, and there are not enough wind instruments. And in general, everything is fine. And the compositions are well chosen, - said the viewer Dmitry Yelagin.

I am happy to sit, write down on my mobile phone. I would like to do something similar too. Give some intimacy to your works. So my guys gave me a task - I'm doing it! - laughed the vocalist of the group "Heart Block" Alexander Khudeev.

Scorpions, Nirvana, Doors, the Beatles again, Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Kiss with famous face makeup, Deep Purple, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Sabbath, Guns N' Roses, Eagles and Europe. Incredibly strong energy comes from Queen with Freddie Mercury. On the big screen, he is young, wearing a royal robe and sneakers, singing We Are the Champions at a concert in Budapest in 1986. Resonance in this sense is a kind of repeater: the musicians deliberately dim the lights in order to highlight rock legends on the screen.

At almost every new composition, the audience breaks into applause. During the intermission, the audience actively share their impressions, and then eagerly return to the hall to enjoy more. The rock concert in symphonic arrangement lasted 2.5 hours and made a splash.

“Listening to your performance, you understand that this music is really created to excite this world. And what was performed as an encore was just great! I hope I will hear the fabulous sounds of your instruments more than once. Now I am your fan ... - spectator Nadezhda Konkova noted on the page of the Vkontakte group. - P.S. I live in Uglegorsk, 200 km from Blagoveshchensk. When I was driving to your concert, on the way through the window I saw a big black bus with "resonance" written on it. Guys, it was your bus. My happiness knew no bounds…”

“Thank you for the concert in Blagoveshchensk! It was delicious! We are waiting for you on the "red tour"! The concert ended an hour ago, and the goosebumps still do not leave my back, it felt like the music was playing right in my chest)))!!! Guys, you are great! - wrote Ivan Zaitsev.

Yes, I myself get goosebumps every time from such a performance, but I have heard it almost a hundred times already, - confirmed the director of the group Vitaly Fedorenko.

At the end, the audience was in for a surprise: Resonance announced a new tour, this time it will be red - Red Tour. It will take place in October this year.

It will feature the most difficult compositions for us - "heavy" rock hits from the repertoire of Rammstein, Aerosmith and even Marilyn Manson. This is aerobatics for symphonic instruments, - promised the "first violin" of the team Diana Nagornaya.

The hall did not want to let go of the beloved musicians. They played a few more encores and bowed out. We just have to wait for autumn. There is a high probability that tickets for the next concert will not be available.

Carefully! Musical fraud is moving through the cities of Russia in the direction from west to east!

In confirmation, I post an article about a dubious concert in Sumy:

The ability to present oneself now is often more important than the existing content. A well-made cover, falling into a trend and a non-standard approach easily defeat professionalism, generally accepted notions about the level of presentation of material and other things of little interest to the layman. Evening of rock hits in the theater. Shchepkina, who gathered a full house and enthusiastic applause from the audience, is a confirmation of this.

"Rock hit" posters

And it all started, as it should, with posters. Throughout Ukraine, they were the same, and everywhere initially not entirely truthful information was submitted. The chamber group "Résonance", which, as the Sumy residents could see, consisted of 14 people, so purely formally had no moral right to write "Symphonic Orchestra", and even more so in capital letters. It is enough to get into Wikipedia to find out: the basis of a symphony orchestra is made up of four groups of instruments - bowed strings, wood and brass winds, and percussion. Résonance did not have any woodwinds or brass, only bow strings and a drummer were present. What does this mean - in front of us was just a chamber group, as the performers of rock hits reported in the posters, but in small letters.
Attentive Sumy residents should have immediately become interested in inconsistencies in posters and videos on Youtube
In principle, this was their main preliminary falsity, which could interest the most attentive Sumy residents. Such, in theory, should have immediately watched any of the many “Résonance” videos presented on Youtube, then the sound level would have become noticeable. Then it would be ideal to watch something like Metallica or Scorpions with a real symphony orchestra and conclude that a dietary version of what is announced in the posters is coming to us.

There is nowhere more hit

The Sumy people didn't do that. And, probably, there is nothing wrong with that, because what did those present on February 3 at the Theater im. Shchepkina, that's what they got. And these are your favorite rock hits! All 22 songs performed are selected, golden compositions from the best rock and roll bands of all time. I will not enumerate - the names of the groups are written on the poster, and any fan of classical rock music can guess which songs from their repertoire were performed. Here, as in Mayakovsky: "We say the party, we mean - Lenin." Only here instead of Ilyich - Lennon, implying which "Imagine" immediately begins. Or if we say “Queen”, then it will be “We will rock you” and “Show must go on”.

The hall was mostly young people - the main fans of rock music in Sumy
In press releases about the Résonance group, it is said that “teachers from the conservatory, musicians from the philharmonic society, the opera house, the house of organ and chamber music from different cities of Ukraine” play in it. We do not exclude, but we are not happy for all of the above musical institutions. We advise the residents of Sumy to go to our native regional philharmonic society and listen to the chamber orchestra "Renaissance" - the difference will be noticeable. The only "rock" representative of the "Résonance" line-up, the drummer, was especially striking. If his colleagues from the groups whose compositions he performed had heard his playing, he would hardly have escaped the “dark” one.

Everyone is happy

Of the positive moments of the concert, in addition to the musical material itself, one can also name the photo design that was broadcast on the big screen. It was well chosen and on topic.

A beautiful photo series of your favorite legendary rock bands set you in the right mood
It is worth paying tribute to the kindness of the Sumy residents: their love for the wonderful examples of world rock music is so great in them that they seemed to absolutely care about the level of the presented action. We learned another song, sang it softly like in karaoke - and Monday was not as dull as usual. In the end, after all, everyone was satisfied: both the musicians and the audience, and this is the most important thing.

On Monday, I attended a concert of a chamber group, and, according to other sources, a symphony orchestra " resonance"in the recreation center "Rodina". The concert was held as part of the group's yellow tour. They performed rock classics in orchestral arrangements, from The Beatles to Black Sabbath. I must say that I am generally a fan of orchestral versions of rock and metal. Suffice it to recall my favorite S&M album by Metallica, or Concerto for Group and Orchestra by Deep Purple, and any of the hundreds of orchestral covers of rock classics. Some people find it difficult to perceive music without words, but I, on the contrary, prefer this option. Therefore, the “résonance” concert was for me the brightest musical event of the year. Tickets were not cheap, but I never regretted the money spent on attending this concert. The impression was not spoiled even by the disgustingly tuned sound-amplifying equipment in Rodina. Below is a report on the concert with some video, audio recordings and photos.

The résonance group, although formally a chamber part of a symphony orchestra, and also often ranked among a number of modern rock groups, in fact, is neither one nor the other.

The group's repertoire is not just rock music. These are works that have long been included in the golden fund of mankind, music created by the most talented people on the planet.

This concert program offers a new look at the very essence of the song. Having discarded the templates, the listener penetrates into the very heart of the work - exactly what the composer originally invested in it. And the glow of brilliant rock music becomes even more open, and the professional approach of the musicians, the richness of the violins, the nobility of the violas, the charm of the cellos, the power of the double basses and the rock and roll freedom of the drums make it rich and colorful, also thanks to elaborate arrangements specially for the chamber group of the symphony orchestra "résonance".

The musicians of the "résonance" group are teachers of the conservatory, musicians of the philharmonic society, the opera house, the house of organ and chamber music from different cities of Ukraine.

There are instruments on the stage on chairs: violins, cellos, there is a double bass. To the right, behind a glass screen, so as not to interfere with the rest of the orchestra, there is a drum set. In total, 14 people participated in the performance on stage.

The group is chamber, therefore the concert was held without prior announcement of the numbers, and generally without words. Those who wished could buy a program of 4 leaflets for a completely unhealthy amount of 100 rubles.

The musicians played on the stage, and behind them a slideshow with photos of the artists and album covers of the bands whose songs were currently being played was spinning on the screen.

First branch

1. Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall

We started quickly, as they say, right off the bat, immediately with lively hits without warming up.

Unfortunately, at the beginning I didn't record anything, but rather enjoyed the music, but there are quite a few recordings of résonance performances on the Internet.

"Another Brick in the Wall" is the title of three songs from the rock opera The Wall (1979) by Pink Floyd, which are variations on the same main theme and are subtitled Part I, Part II and Part III (part I, part II and part III respectively). All three songs were written by Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters, who at the time was one of the band's lead songwriters. This song is one of the most famous in the work of Pink Floyd. In 1980, the song was used as a protest anthem by black students in South Africa during their protests against racial propaganda and bias in official curricula, as a result of which the song was banned by the government.

2. The Beatles - Come Together

The Beatles (as well as Queen) in this concert generally took up most of the time.

Someone else's recording from a concert in 2014

"Come Together", the first song on the Abbey Road album, was conceived by John Lennon as a political rallying cry for psychologist and LSD guru activist Timothy Leary and his campaign for governor of California against Ronald Reagan.

3. AC/DC - Back in Black

Back In Black is a famous song by the Australian band AC/DC. It was released on the self-titled album in 1980. Album Back in Black became the band's best-selling album and one of the most significant in the history of hard rock. According to VH1, "Back in Black" is ranked fourth in the list of the top forty metal songs, and second in hard rock.

4 Eagles - Hotel California

By the way, I have a recording of the same song in another instrumental performance - on Asian cymbals.

Someone else's recording from a concert in 2014

"Hotel California" is probably the most famous song by the Eagles. It describes "a hotel that you can never leave." The song is reminiscent of the tale of a weary traveler trapped in a nightmarish inn that at first seemed quite inviting. The song is said by some to be a metaphor for the hedonism and self-destruction of music in Hollywood. The idea behind the song is that Hollywood is like a luxury hotel that first welcomes guests and then traps them through its own cunning. There are also more mundane versions: for example, that a “hotel” means a prison or a mental hospital.

5. The Doors - People Are Strange

The famous song "People Are Strange" was born to Jim Morrison and Robbie Krieger, guitarist of The Doors, in early 1967 during their walk to the top of the famous Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles. They went up there to watch the sunset. Jim was in a depressed mood, but the sight of the setting sun coloring the clouds and the unparalleled view from the mountain made him cheer up. According to Krieger, Morrison realized the cause of his depression. He said something along the lines of "people are cold to you if you are a stranger yourself." This phrase became the key in the future song. Jim immediately wrote the words to "People Are Strange" and Robbie composed the music.

6. Scorpions - Rock You Like A Hurricane

Rock You Like a Hurricane is a song by the famous German rock band Scorpions, released in 1984 as part of the Love At First Sting album. In 2011, the original version of the song was re-recorded in a slightly different arrangement with heavier riffs and was included in the band's nineteenth album, Comeblack.

7. The Beatles - Yesterday

Probably one of the most famous songs of the Liverpool Four. But, in my opinion, too hackneyed.

Yesterday (rus. "Yesterday") is a song by The Beatles from the album "Help!", Released in August 1965. Yesterday took first place in the charts in the US, Canada, New Zealand and other countries, and remains popular today. As of December 13, 1999, US radio and television broadcast Yesterday more than 7 million times, according to Broadcast Music Incorporated. In 1999, the British radio station BBC 2 conducted a study based on polls among music experts and listeners, as well as on the basis of sales figures, according to which it named Yesterday the best song of the 20th century. According to the Guinness Book of Records, this song has been covered more than any other song ever written.

8. The Rolling Stones - Paint it Black

Also a famous song with a huge number of cover versions, many of which I specially collected for my record library. Now here's a self-recorded version by résonance.

The famous “Paint It Black” by The Rolling Stones is considered by many to be one of the most mysterious compositions of the legendary rock band. For fans of the group, it causes different associations. For some, it's a song about the Vietnam War. Others see in it allusions to the confrontation with the communists, the Catholic religion, visiting brothels and something else. Interestingly, the Rolling Stones didn't tell too little about the history of the song's creation, but at the same time, their explanations did not shed much light on its true meaning.

In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked "Paint It Black" at number 174 on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. There are many cover versions. The song was performed by the band Nautilus Pompilius in concerts in 1993; The Moldavian group Zdob si Zdub also recorded their cover of the song (album Ethnomecanica, 2006)

9. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

Someone else's recording from a concert in 2013

British rock band Led Zeppelin have recorded dozens of great songs, but none of them can be compared in terms of popularity with the legendary "Stairway to Heaven" ("Stairway to Heaven"). In the history of the song there was a resounding success, accusations of plagiarism and a hidden satanic message, an incredible number of cover versions, a lot of curious statements and much more, which to this day keeps the public interested in it.

10. Queen - We Will Rock You

The alternating two stomps and one stomp from the song “We Will Rock You” are now familiar to every athlete or fan, even if he is indifferent to the work of the rock band Queen, because this rhythm is performed in the stands during most of the competition. With it, fans support their favorite team and try to demoralize the opponent.

11. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

Only a lazy person did not make his own version of this hit, there are many purely stringed versions, and even a version ukulele (ukulele), and in general it sounds good in the performance of the orchestra.

Modern society cannot be imagined without advertising, which has occupied television, radio and print media. The appearance of a close-up in the frame of a feature film of the packaging of a product or the use of cars from one manufacturer in the whole picture also does not surprise anyone. Everyone understands that such "accidents" are generously paid.

But it wasn't always like that, as the story behind the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" confirms. In the name, Kurt Cobain immortalized Mennen's famous Teen Spirit deodorant without getting a dime from it. Moreover, it happened quite by accident.

One day, his girlfriend Kathleen Hanna wrote the phrase “Kurt smells like teen spirit” (“Kurt smells like Teen Spirit”) on the wall of Kurt’s house, meaning that Cobain smells like his girlfriend’s deodorant. But Cobain took her words literally (like "Kurt has a teenage spirit"), because he had no idea about this brand. He really liked the rebellious overtones of the expression and used it in the song.

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a song by the American band Nirvana from the album Nevermind. Written by Kurt Cobain, Chris Novoselic and Dave Grohl and produced by Butch Vig. The song is written in verse-chorus form, where the main four-chord riff is used during the intro and chorus to create alternating loud and quiet dynamics. "Teen Spirit" is often interpreted as a revolutionary teenage anthem; this interpretation is reinforced by the song's music video. NME magazine compiled its own version of the list of the five hundred greatest songs of all time, which was worked on by the journalists of the publication, who worked in different years. In first place was - perhaps unexpectedly for many - the composition "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by the cult rock band Nirvana.

12. John Lennon

Someone else's recording from a concert in 2014

On a beautiful early morning on June 21, 1971, John Lennon sat down at the piano in the bedroom of the Tittenhurst Park estate to present to the world "Imagine", one of the greatest songs in the history of modern music. He wrote the words and the melody literally in one sitting, and in the autumn of the same year the composition was presented to the public. In Lennon in America, authored by Jeffrey Giliano, John called "Imagine" "an anti-religious, anti-nationalist, anti-conservative, anti-capitalist (song) embraced by its sweet shell." Many are sure that in "Imagine" John Lennon urged to give up not so much material wealth, but everything that burdens the mind, prejudices and stereotypes. Well, such a point of view has the right to life. "Imagine" is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame, and is ranked third on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the five hundred greatest songs of all time.

13. Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water

Almost every rock music lover who decides to master the guitar learns one of the first tunes the famous riff from “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple. It sounds spectacular, but at the same time is so technically simple that Ritchie Blackmore is said to be embarrassed to present the composed melody to his colleagues, considering it too primitive for a musician of his level. As you know, the text of the song tells about the fire, which members of Deep Purple witnessed in the Swiss city of Montreux. They were there to work on a new album in a mobile studio rented from The Rolling Stones. For these purposes, a room was rented in a local casino. On December 4, 1971, Frank Zappa gave a concert in the theater of this gambling establishment. After that, the hall was to be taken over by Deep Purple. But fate decreed otherwise. During Zappa's speech, a fire broke out in the room, the cause of which is said to be a rocket launcher shot into the ceiling. It all ended with the fact that the entertainment complex was completely destroyed by fire to the ground. Musicians from Deep Purple watched what was happening from the window of the Europe Hotel, which is located on the opposite shore of Lake Geneva. So the smoke above the water, in honor of which the new song was named, spread over its smooth surface.

14. Queen - We Are The Champions

"We Are the Champions" is a song by British rock band Queen from the album News of the World. This is one of the band's most famous songs. It has become the sports anthem of millions of fans around the world. The song was released as a single along with "We Will Rock You" on the B-side.

15. Guns N' Roses - Paradise City

Someone else's recording from a concert in 2013

"Paradise City" is a single by American rock band Guns N' Roses, released in 1987 on their debut album Appetite for Destruction. The song is best known for the following lines: "Take me down to the paradise city/Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty". This song is often played in stadiums during games along with the song "Welcome To The Jungle" from the same album. The song peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100.

16. Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Who would have thought that a symphony orchestra could replay the hits of such rather heavy bands as Black Sabbath, but look, it turned out quite well:

The legendary "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath was written in less than half an hour, and has become a heavy metal classic. It had a significant impact on the development of the entire genre and was included in various authoritative ratings of the greatest compositions.

It's My Life is a single by Bon Jovi from the album Crush, released on May 23, 2000. One of the band's most successful songs since 1995, it reached #1 in Europe and #3 in the UK and was voted Song of the Year by the ASCAP Pop Music Awards.

19. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

The album "Californication" became the most commercially successful work of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and gave fans of the famous American rock band several major hits at once. The title track, which topped several charts, is one of them, although at the time of recording, the musicians were already ready to abandon it. The name "Californication" Kiedis collected from two words: California - California, and fornication - adultery, fornication. It is very difficult to find its Russian-language counterpart. In Runet, there are variants "California", "California Mania", "Californication", "Californization", "Californization" and others. "Californication" speaks of the moral decay of modern society. According to the songwriter, California is largely to blame for its decline, promoting all sorts of excesses and vices: craving for fame, pornography, consumerism and superficial culture. In a word, we are talking about the fact that the whole world is becoming artificial and false, like California.

20. The Beatles - Let It Be

Someone else's recording from a concert in 2014

21. Queen - The Show Must Go On

Queen's last studio album released during Freddie Mercury's lifetime was Innuendo. While working on it, the health of the lead singer of the group, who was ill with AIDS, was rapidly deteriorating, and he realized that he did not have long to live. Perhaps it was the premonition of imminent death that allowed him to perform so soulfully the song “Show Must Go On” (“The show must go on”), which ends “Innuendo”. Many fans of the group consider it one of the best songs of Queen and one of the most famous songs of rock music in general. The clip consists of footage from chronicles, concerts, interviews and other Queen clips from 1980 to 1991. Brian May specifically wrote this song for Freddie Mercury, as he was one of the few who knew about his illness. In itself, the phrase The Show Must Go On represents a strict rule of the theater that has existed since the time of Molière: the performance must go on, no matter what, the performance must be played at any cost. Now the phrase The Show Must Go On is fully associated with Freddie Mercury and his life, which he lived as one bright show without stopping at anything.

The concert seemed to have ended there, but the excited audience gave such a wild ovation that the musicians went out for an encore two more times.

For the first time they played two songs from the new, red tour, which will be presented to the general public only in October this year.

The composition "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" became the first hit of the British synth-pop duo Eurythmics, climbed to the top lines of the charts in different countries, and to this day remains his most famous song. It would not be an exaggeration to say that she is the hallmark of the group. The most popular cover version of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” was recorded by Marilyn Manson. In his autobiography, he said that the idea to perform a slow version of the song came to his mind when he was first under the influence of "acid".

25. Metallica - The Unforgiven

The last song, played for the second time for an encore, when the band was about to leave, but the audience did not let it go, arranging a wild ovation again, was the band's most famous composition - The Unforgiven. Yes, the performer had to sit down again and adjust the instruments again. By the way, this is the only official video of the band résonance:

The concert was wonderful. And if suddenly the group decides to visit our city again with the next, red concert tour, I will definitely go to this event, no matter how much money it costs.

By the way, about the cost of tickets. Buying at Rodina ticket offices does not seem to make any sense. With the declared ticket price of 800-2400 rubles, people bought tickets for the last rows of the amphitheater, under the balcony, for 1400, while on promotions, on a biglion (burn in hell) or ordering on VKontakte or by phone at alternative ticket offices, a ticket for the last row of the stalls cost about 1200 rubles. For 800 r. there were only tickets for the last row of the balcony, and they quickly ran out, the balcony was sold for 1000-1200.

P.S. By the way, while preparing this record, I found one very interesting resource - song-story.ru, dedicated to the history of the creation of famous songs.
