Cut the Rope. Game Review

A cute green creature lives in tablet-caramel country, eating astronomical amounts of candy. This character is known to children and adults in the most remote corners of the earth, and his name is inscribed in caramel letters in the history of portable devices. As you guessed, we will talk about the famous Om Nom! Today on the Pink Sofa is the cute caramel board game Cut the Rope.

Om Nom's facial expressions will make even the most gloomy player smile, and the emotions of a green creature caused by the loss of a candy will haunt you with a mute reproach for the rest of your life. In addition to great graphics, the electronic version of "Cut the Rope" develops logical thinking and makes you think. This is one of the few electronic puzzle games that I recommended to my youngest daughter for an evening out. Given the sincere love of the whole family for the cute Om Nom, the card version of the popular game was doomed to success in absentia...

A compact rectangular box sheltered two stacks of cards and a booklet of rules. Bright colors and funny pictures on the packaging at first sight evoke exceptional positive emotions. I wonder how the cards are...

The game involves two identical decks, consisting of one hundred and forty cards with continuous numbering from "one" to "ten", as well as a set of twenty scissors, acting as "Jokers". The pictures depict Am Nyamych himself (drawings from all four versions of the game were used), as well as the famous "rainbow" lollipop on a string.

Both um and yum.

After you have looked through the pictures of Om Nom's portraits several times, mix all 160 cards and give each participant the number of cards specified in the rules. For example: when playing with four players, the opponents will receive 16 cards each. Viewing cards is prohibited! The remaining cards will make up a common deck, it is placed in the center of the table.

Place the resulting set in front of you in a pile face down, turn over the top card in the pile. Thus, in front of each participant is a personal pile of the player. Next, each participant takes six cards from the total pile into his hand (the hand is replenished to six cards at the end of each turn).

This completes the preparations, you can start hunting for candy!

The goal of the opponents is to get rid of all the cards in the personal pile, it does not matter if you have cards left in your hand or in your personal playing area. Necessary explanation: the playing area is three rows of cards that the player lays out in front of him (more on that later).

On your turn, you can play any number of cards from your hand and from your personal playing area by placing them in one of the three rows located in the center of the table (not to be confused with your personal area). The cards in the rows are arranged either in ascending or descending order - it all depends on the first defining card. Scissors act as "Jokers" and replace any number.

Please note: starting a row with "Scissors" (the central row in the photo), you do not set the direction of the row. Only the first digital card will determine whether the cards will be arranged in ascending or descending order ... In this example instead of the "troika" it was possible to put the "eight".

When the row ends, all cards from it go to the discard pile, and you can start the next chain. The main thing is to observe two conditions: the chain begins either with a "one" or with a "tens"; there can be no more than three rows in the center of the table!

At the end of the turn, you must place one card from your hand in your personal zone. In this case, the sequence of numbers, as well as the first card in a row, can be any (maximum three rows). These chains are the player's supply, from which he can take a card and put it in one of the central (general) rows. Please note: it is strictly forbidden to place cards from a personal pile in an individual zone!

The goal of the opponents is to get rid of all the cards in their personal pile as quickly as possible. The winner gets a huge lollipop!

"Beauty".

"Pretty" was the first word that my youngest daughter looking at the box. After that, the bright packaging disappeared into the children's room, where the decks of cards were subjected to the most careful study. It’s beautiful, you can’t say anything, an excellent marketing ploy is to use illustrations from the popular game when designing cards ...

Myself game process reminded me of the famous Klondike solitaire, which was played by 99.9% of personal computer users. The rules have certainly been changed, but the feelings after the games are similar. It is doubly surprising that Cut the Rope does not have a single player. Will have to think about it...

Over the past weekend alone, five games were played at Om Nom, and every time the box was brought by my daughter. No wonder - the design plays a role in choosing a "table" for evening gatherings. The gameplay itself is interesting and calm - in the evening, by the light of a fireplace, it is pleasant to decompose a simple card game for your own pleasure. "Cut the Rope", in my opinion, is perfect for playing with children, develops logical thinking and miscalculation of combinations. In a word, both beautiful and useful.

Separately, I want to dwell on the rules enclosed in the box. More intricate presentation simple actions I haven't met for a long time. Even I, with my experience, for a long time "comprehended" the streams of phrases and "screened out" 60% of unnecessary text. In my opinion, such an "overabundance of information" can scare off potential players. And the game is good in every way.

A beautiful collective card solitaire game for the whole family with simple rules and a great "childish" design.

Cut The Rope. Magic" - bright card game on logic and ingenuity for players from 6 years old. As in the digital version, in the board game you need to treat Om Nom with goodies. Wielding cards of a personal deck, each of the participants is trying to fill the ranks of supplies and feed the hungry green monster. Light and colorful game is designed for both duel game and epic competition big company(up to 8 people).

Card educational game

Cut The Rope. Magic" combines simple rules and diverse gameplay: playing cards from your hand, the presence of 3 rows of cards and 3 general levels, personal and common decks. Dropping cards into the rows of levels involves a score in descending (if starting from ten) or increasing (if starting from one), and the row of supplies is replenished at will.

The tricky card "Scissors" is designed to help players by replacing any card in a row. The one who discards all the cards of his deck, or at least more of them, wins and treats the green Om Nom with a treat.

An exciting game for a big company

The game provides several options for the game for a different number of players. So, for a duel game, it is necessary to distribute 20 cards into hands, and for a game of eight, 10 cards each.

For a faster and more exciting game, the number of cards can decrease or increase, and the rules can vary: give special meanings to the “Scissors” card, require the repetition of some numbers, etc.

Rules of the game

Having dealt the cards into their hands and formed a common deck, the players begin the race to discard. There are 3 map zones in the game:

  • A row of supplies (the top card of this row can progress to a row of levels).
  • A number of levels (the sequence of cards is observed).
  • General deck.
  • Personal deck.
  • Cards in hand.

On your turn, you can use cards from all game zones. When a number of levels are filled, the next round of the party begins. The goal of the game is to play all the cards in your personal deck.

Who will like

Cut The Rope. Magic" is a game for teaching children about counting, logic, ingenuity and a reason for gatherings with the whole family. A colorful card game with flexible rules fits in a compact box for easy transport and entertainment anywhere, anytime.

Yes, yes, I dug into the drafts again =)).

2014 will be remembered for me as the year of folk mechanics... No, not like that. Year of the mechanic of the peoples of the world! Judge for yourself: "Windows" are coming out based on the Japanese folk game Coy, "Wild Fishing" based on the Spanish "Escoba" ... Today we will talk about one more game from this list.

Components

The box format is the same as that of "Fluxx" and "KGB against the CIA" - approximate dimensions are 10x20cm. The paper is embossed. Live long.

Inside, in addition to the rules, we are waiting for 160 cards with numbers and the image of Yum-Num, the hero of the smartphone game. My daughter said it was a dragon with a sweet tooth, but I thought it was a toad. =) The quality of the cards is standard.

There are only 11 types of cards: with numbers from 1 to 10 (each number has its own type of Yum-Num) and a joker in the form of scissors.

How to play?

The player receives a stack of cards, the number of which varies depending on the number of players (for two, for example, 20 pieces) and, without considering all of them, opens the top one. This is the main stack of the player and the goal is to get rid of the cards in it faster than others.
Also, 6 cards are given to the hand, cards from the hand will help to get rid of the cards in the pile faster.

In the center of the playing space during the game, participants will form up to 3 rows of cards, in which all cards must lie strictly in turn (1-2-3-4...or 10-9-8-7...).

On his turn, a player can place his cards in these rows both from the pile and from his hand, as long as the numbers fit. As for the joker-scissors, it replaces any other card.

When one of the rows is completely filled (numbers from 1 to 10 are laid out), it is reset and you can start over.

At the end of his turn, the player must put 1 card into his personal discard pile (if there is something to put) and draw cards into his hand so that there are 6 of them. In the discard pile, you can form up to 3 independent rows without any stacking rules, the top cards of which can also be played to the center rows.

Differences from Skip-Bo.

The publisher wrote in the rules that "Cut the Rope" uses the mechanics of the folk game "Cat and Mouse". To me, and to the whole gaming world, this mechanic is more familiar from "Skip-Bo" already in 1967. By the way, a hit game, who does not know. =) The games are very similar, but there are some cosmetic changes:

1) CtR uses a row of 10 numbers, SB uses 12.

2) In CtR there are 6 cards in hand, in SB - 5.

3) CtR has 3 resets and 3 central rows, SB has 4 in total

4) In CtR, you can start a row with both 1 and 10 and continue it downwards; in SB, all rows can be replenished only upwards.

5) When the hand runs out of cards, in CtR the player's turn ends, and in SB the player again draws cards into his hand and continues his turn.

This does not change the gameplay much, but Mattel, the copyright holder of SB, will no longer be able to refer to plagiarism. =)

Impression.

"Cut the Rope"+"Skip-Bo"=... a definite family hit! The design is perfect for attracting the attention of children and parents, and a simple and exciting process (albeit solitaire solitaire) will consolidate success and keep the game from lying on the shelf.

As soon as my children saw this game, I had to forget about this game for a day. =) Without any rules, they added rows that were understandable only to them and looked at the pictures. But then the game was returned to dad so that he would try the process in accordance with all the rules, though on older kids (including quite adults).

Reading the rules in advance, it seemed to me that this kind of solitaire would not take root in our circle. And really, what's wrong with it, put your cards in turn and don't blow your mustache. In fact, it turned out to be very exciting.

I laid out the game for 2,3 and 4 players. The fewer players, the slower the collection of rows, but the random factor is slightly less. You can, for example, hold down the desired number (which the opponent does not have) until you yourself give it your all.

As for the shortcomings, it seemed to me that there are only 3 of them:

1) Preparing for the game. It is necessary to carefully mix 160 cards, distribute first cards for a pile, and then another 6 cards in a hand. Tiring. Can be used as an incentive - whoever loses, he interferes with the cards for the next game. =)

2) Downtime or waiting time for your move. Relevant if more than 4 people gathered to play. While several players before you rake their cards, analyze all the options, you can run to the kitchen and eat a couple of cookies. =)

3) Solitaire mechanics implies little or no player interaction. You also need to be prepared for this.

On Teser or BGG, you can find homemade additional rules that can slightly mitigate the effects of these shortcomings, but I have not yet been able to try it myself.

For those who will grumble about "Oh, yes, this is Skip-Bo" and so on, I want to say that now there is no "Skip-Bo" in our market and is not expected, although the game is worth it. And here you have the same plus more beautiful art. As for art, it's a matter of taste, of course, in the same vein, you can argue for a long time about "UNO" and "Svintus".

As a result, we have a solid family filler with a chic design, simple rules, and even with the regulation of the game time (I wanted to hurry up - you can reduce the stack of player cards). Citizens of the family family - grab it, you can't miss it!
