Proverbs most clearly express the linguistic richness of peoples, are a reflection of the collective knowledge of the linguistic community and are a valuable source for cultural interpretation. They carry important cultural information, which makes it possible to identify the ethno-cultural characteristics of a particular linguo-cultural community.

The saying item (əitem) is close in its genre nature to the proverb. It is recalled to the word, often used in figurative meaning, aptly notices the essence of objects, phenomena and gives them a figurative description. A saying, unlike a proverb, does not contain a generalizing meaning, but figuratively, in most cases, allegorically defines an object or phenomenon. The proverb is always single-membered, it is part of a judgment, it is devoid of a generalizing instructive meaning: "һin da mulla, min da mulla, atҡa besәn whom һala?" (“And you are a mullah, and I am a mullah, but who will feed the horse?”).

Story

The antiquity of the Bashkir proverbs is evidenced by the common Turkic written monuments. In the monument of the 11th century “The Dictionary of Turkic Dialects” (“The Turk Meets Devon”) by Mahmud Kashgari, among the common Turkic proverbs, sayings are recorded that are identical to modern Bashkir ones. Proverbs and sayings existed in live speech long before they were included in the book of the scientist.

There are proverbs that have stood out from other genres of oral poetic creativity: kubairs, songs, fairy tales, anecdotes, etc. Especially many proverbs are associated with the epic - kubairs. Bashkir sesens (narrators - improvisers) contributed to the expansion and enrichment of the proverbs of the people.

Some of the proverbs and sayings that exist among the people go back to the lower sources. Didactic poems from ancient manuscripts, poems by the poet Akmulla, as well as works that came from the classical East, to a certain extent, replenished the composition of Bashkir proverbs. For example, the saying “A falcon will not please a sparrow trap” goes back to the work of Miftahetdin Akmulla.

In the proverbial fund of the Bashkir people, an extensive common Turkic layer has been preserved. The greatest similarity is observed between Bashkir, Tatar and Kazakh proverbs.

Proverb form

Most of the Bashkir proverbs and sayings are composed in poetic form.

The subject of proverbs

The theme of most Bashkir proverbs is determined by their universal essence, regardless of their national and cultural affiliation. The peoples are unanimous in their assessment of human vices and virtues of truth and lies, justice and injustice. The meaning of the content of proverbs is based on a deep generalization life experience, activities and relations of people Universal (universal). In languages different peoples there are proverbs containing teaching, advice, edification, proverbs praise the mind, generosity, hospitality and ridicule the stupid, lazy, greedy.

The specific is manifested in proverbs reflecting the traditions and customs of peoples, the social and economic way of their life. national character. The emergence of such proverbs was due to the peculiarities historical development and social conditions of the peoples, when the proverb has a pronounced national coloring.

The subjects of Bashkir proverbs are different.

  • Industriousness and skill are famous in many Bashkir proverbs: “Atmagan kuyan, asmagan cauldron” (translated “The hare is not killed, the cauldron is not suspended”, “Keshe eshe menan, aghas emeshe menen” (“The tree is red with fruits, man with deeds”)
  • Parasitism and laziness are condemned, and loafers and chatterboxes are ridiculed: “Et θpθp, storm yθrθr” (literally translated “The dog barks, the wolf knows how to walk”, “Kup θrən et teshləməs, kup kykyrgan əshləməs” (A dog that barks a lot, does not bites, the one who talks a lot will not work), "Kysyr tauyk kup kytaklay" (Chicken, not laying eggs, cackles a lot).
  • Practicality and ingenuity are encouraged: “Naualagy tornaga aldanyp, kulyndagy sepsekte iskyndyrma” (literally translated “Having looked at the crane in the sky, do not let go of the wagtail in your hand”), “Atahy bolan almagandyn balakhy kolan almas” (If the father did not take the deer, then the son will not take a kulan), "Zur urmanda karga bulgansy, ber kyuakta was a bul" (Than to be a crow in big forest, be a nightingale in one bush), "Naualagy tornaga aldanyp, kulyndagy səpsekte iskyndyrma" (Having looked for a crane in the sky, do not let go of the wagtail in your hand), "Bθrkθtkə ymhynyp, turgayzan məkhrum kalma" (Tempted by an eagle, do not be left without (do not lose ) sparrow), “Elһeҙ yapraҡ һelkenmәy” (Without wind, the foliage does not sway).
  • Love for children is noted: “Terpe le balanyn“ yomshagym ”, aiyu -“ appagym ”, type nθyə” (literally translated “And the hedgehog caresses his child (hedgehog), calling him“ my soft ”, the bear -“ my white one ”) .
  • Life in society: “Khalyk bar erҙә batyr bar” (translated as “Where there are people, there will be a batyr”)
  • Bashkir proverbs and sayings reveal inner world of a person, his concept of good and evil, contain the aesthetic norms of the hostel: “Ber kazanga ike təkə bashy nymai. Ike təkə bashy ber kazanga nymay” (in the literal translation “Two sheep’s heads do not climb into one pot”), “At ayagyna at basmai” (A horse does not step on a horse’s foot), Kohl is treated - and drink water.

The Bashkir people also created many proverbs that express love and respect for a woman. IN hard times a Bashkir woman took care of orphaned children on her shoulders, restored the ruined household "A woman keeps three corners in the house, and a man - one." It was considered unworthy of a man to insult, humiliate a woman, on whom the well-being and peace in the house depended. "A bad husband will blaspheme the wife he chose."

The cult of motherhood (paternity) in the Bashkir tradition has always enjoyed special respect. “He who has not known children has not known the taste of honey”, “A childless person is like a split stone.”

The birth of a child was perceived as a charitable, joyful event: “It is raining - the good of the earth, a good child is born - the good of the country”, “Children are both wealth and the joy of life”, “A house with children is a bazaar, without children is a mazar”. Children are the basis of a happy self-sufficient family life(“There are no bees on a flower without nectar, there is no happiness in a house without children”), a prosperous responsible marriage (“Managed to give birth - be able to raise”), respectful and careful attitude to parents (“If you don’t become a father, you won’t know the price of a father; if you don’t become a mother, you won’t know the price of a mother”).

In the Bashkir tradition, a woman-mother was surrounded with respect and honor, and a childless one, on the contrary, lost authority among others (“A childless woman is a barren tree”, “A clucking chicken is better than a barren woman”, “A barren woman consoles herself with clothes”).

Divorces among the Bashkirs were extremely rare. IN public consciousness divorce was considered obscene, immoral. "The first husband is given by God, - the second is shame on his face."

Divorce was perceived as a difficult life drama, crippling human fates and deeply traumatizing the souls of people. “There are two deaths in the world: one is divorce, the other is death itself”, “Than rushing from husband to husband, it is better to wander from grave to grave.”

For centuries, folk morality has affirmed the value and social significance of a respectable and quiet married life (“In a house where harmony is abundance, happiness; in a house where discord is misfortune and grief”), emphasized the importance and role of a positive spiritual and spiritual atmosphere in the upbringing children (“In a house where there is discord, a dissolute daughter grows up”).

Respect for a hard-working, faithful and wise woman-mother, a woman-wife was expressed in the sayings “A house rests on a diligent wife”, “And the wife exalts her husband, and the wife humiliates her husband”, “If the wife is good, you will climb the argamak, if you are bad, you will you’ll go down the grave”, “If a mother climbs a tree, a daughter climbs a bough”, “What is a mother, such is a daughter”, etc.

  • The wisdom of a person is reflected in the proverbs: “There is no need to urge a fast horse, there is no need to help a skilled person”, “A stone paints a mountain, a head paints a man”, “Think twice, speak once”, “I was afraid of a bear - I ran into a wolf, I was afraid of death, I waited for the enemy "," Yz suplegendə ətəs tə batyr "(On his dung heap (dump) and the rooster is a hero); "Et oyahynda kθslθ" (A dog is strong in its kennel).

Peculiarities

Some of the Bashkir proverbs and sayings do not find an equivalent in other languages due to their ethno-cultural specificity.

The way of life of the Bashkir people was such that the Bashkirs could not imagine their life without a horse. The horse meant for the Bashkir both well-being and the security of the family, was a matter of special pride, the personification of independence. Accordingly, in the Bashkir language there are proverbs that are typical only for the Bashkirs: “Irzetz yuldashy la at, mondashyla at” (A horse for a man and a companion and adviser), “Atkezeren belmegon gezgenen totop ultyryr” (Who does not know the price of a horse, he will remain with a bridle in hands), “Irmen tigen ir esende eyerle-yugenle at yatyr” (A real man has only a horse in his mind), “Ir irekle bashyn kol itmed” (A man will not exchange freedom for slavery).

The Bashkirs led a nomadic lifestyle, engaged in hunting, animal husbandry, and beekeeping. They especially revered the multiplication of their kind, family branch, older generation, knowledge, observance and recognition of the internal laws of interkinship relations and kinship ties, which is reflected in the proverbs: "Andyz bar erze at ulme" (Where the elecampane is, the horse will not disappear there), "Kurai tartatz, kvi bulyr, burene tartIatz, her bulyr" (You will play kurai - the melody will turn out, the log will be cut - the house will turn out), “Tuganytsdan bizme - endowed, koror” (Do not refuse from relatives - the family will dry up), “Arai-ene talashyr, atka menIe yarashyr” (Brothers quarrel, but on horseback reconcile), “Atanan kurgen uk yunyr, inenen kurgen tun beser” (A father must teach his child how to cut a bow, a mother how to cut a fur coat), “Uly barzshchuryny bar, kyzy barzytskezere bar” (He who raised his son has place of honor who raised his daughter - care and concern), "Yakshy ulsch korzashyndai bulyr" ( good son- your like-minded person), “A Tahbi kolan atmagandyts balahy kuyan atmar” (whose father was not a hunter, his son will not become a hunter), “Uzets kapFa bulatz, balats hannyFac bulmar” (The crow chick will not become a nightingale). .
