Irregular verbs: simulator online. Irregular verbs, an effective memory trainer

Catherine

Good afternoon, thank you for your trainer. And since I haven’t been learning English very successfully for several years, I don’t care how the software works according to Petrov’s lessons. This is a very good idea, but not as well implemented as the systematized and concise approach of Petrov himself to the presentation of the material.

I will make a number of significant comments that will undoubtedly make the simulator better and it will be much more convenient to use it.
We are talking about the second test with listening and writing three forms. It is very good that you can train both listening and writing at the same time. Learning through writing makes memorization easier.
If you bring this simulator (test) to mind, then others will not be needed.
1. I compiled a list of irregular verbs for training of 88 verbs that disappeared forever when I turned off the computer - it would be nice if it was saved. Every day to compose the same ... so-so task :) After all, it is very convenient to set yourself a goal - every day to learn 6 verbs, for example, 60 in 10 days. I made a list and drove, because it's quite real! But now there is no such possibility (. There is no point in compiling your list either. A leaflet and a pen are more convenient (
2. The verbs for the test (for training) are issued in 6. It is extremely important to set up a return to the previous six for repetition. It is repetition that is the key to success, but without this function, using this simulator is almost useless.
3. The function of general cleaning of everything written is very necessary. That is, he wrote, checked, cleared with one click, after a while he returned to the same verbs - wrote, checked, cleared. And so far I do not remember. Now there are two options - either delete everything written by hand (in the age of technology, people expect a completely different ease of use), or move on to other verbs without learning the previous ones.
4. The listening function next to each form of the verb, and not just the infinitive, will be very helpful. So the simulator will be more effective. Now, for pronunciation, one has to turn to other sources.
5. Correct answers - it will be much more efficient for the student to turn this function off and on himself. Now the correct answers appear when checking and "hang" until the student writes them off and again presses the check button. It will be more useful if the student can see the mistake, but correct it from memory. For example, incorrect answers are highlighted in red and the student either writes the correct answer right away, or clicks on the hint for that option only and removes it when he sees fit.

Another exercise is not at all convenient for use, the words previously moved to the right places are shifted when new ones are transferred to neighboring cells, turning the exercise not into memorizing words, but simply into Tetris.

I would like a really useful service to be brought to mind and be good for both students and creators (after all, only a good product will be able to bring not only benefit to others, but also profit to the creators;)).

The developer of the irregular verb trainer wrote it when he couldn't find anything similar in the App Store. Unlike other English learning apps, Irregular verbs trainer serves only to memorize irregular verbs, but it does an excellent job with this task. The program works as follows.

There are three learning modes available: Simple Test, Blended Test, and Spread Words. In a simple test, the user is shown the first form of the verb and asked to enter the second and third.

In a mixed test, they show the third form, and the second and first must be remembered by yourself. In the Arrange Words mode, three forms of the verb are presented on the screen. The user needs to correctly determine which form is which. Although the tasks are similar, they use different approaches to help memorize the verbs.

In each test, statistics of correct answers are kept. If you answer incorrectly, the training ends. Also Irregular verbs The trainer remembers the number of correct answers in a row and shows your record, which motivates you to answer correctly.

The application is quite simple and copes with the task. The only thing you can find fault with is the somewhat non-intuitive choice of matching verbs with forms in the "Spread Words" mode. Otherwise, the Irregular verbs trainer really helps in.

Modal verbs(Modal verbs) in English is a class auxiliary verbs. Modal verbs are used to express ability, necessity, certainty, possibility or possibility. We use modal verbs if we are talking about abilities or opportunities, asking or giving permission, asking, offering, etc. Modal verbs are not used on their own, but only with the infinitive of the main verb as a compound predicate.

Oh, those irregular English verbs ... How many nerves they rattled schoolchildren, students and adults who vainly studied the tablets with the three forms of these ill-fated verbs. And the most unpleasant thing is that they fade from memory faster than you have time to finish watching the Friends series in the original.

Just don't panic! There is one life hack that will allow you to learn irregular verbs in English quickly, fun, efficiently and for a long time. In development new step when learning English, mnemonics will help us, but first things first.

introduction

We do not know who exactly came up with the tablets with a list of almost all irregular verbs (even rare and little used ones). However, he hardly expected so much hatred in his direction from students, students and self-educated people. Is it really possible to effectively and accurately memorize such an array of words enclosed in tiny cells and then easily retrieve them from memory?

Even the most diligent student is forced to spend eternity on this, and then regularly repeat, recall, write down and rewrite. After all, according to the Ebbinghaus forgetting curve, an hour after cramming, up to 60% of the learned information escapes from memory somewhere. That is why many pupils and students learn tablets with irregular verbs “for show” and getting a mark, memorizing only 30-50 of the most common forms like “go-went-gone”.

A bit of theory

Intentionally, we will not delve into the cases in which the first, second and third forms of the wrong English verb. We will talk about this another time, but now we will talk about mnemonics and its benefits in learning foreign languages.

Mnemonics is a set of techniques that simplify the process of memorizing complex, little-memorable or non-memorable information as much as possible. It consists in the fact that you create certain images in your head and “encode” the received data in a special way. When two images are linked together, they are much easier to retrieve from memory and use if necessary. Moreover, the correct sequence of the information received is preserved, which makes mnemonics many times more effective than the usual cramming.

There are several techniques of mnemonics, however, it is in the case of irregular verbs in English that rhyming is the easiest. It allows you to create colorful images in your head and greatly simplifies the process of learning the most popular irregular verbs. Another plus is that both children and adults can use poems or couplets with rhyming. For the first, such a task will not seem boring, and the second will not have to load their heads with a set of little-remembered words and the process will go faster.

Many progressive English teachers and linguists use mnemonics in their work. Usually these are people who themselves faced a problem in learning irregular verbs and became poets for a while, or those who tried to simplify the task at one time own child in this difficult process. It can be whole poems, short humorous couplets, funny stories sometimes even jokes.

There are many similar creations on the Internet that seem funny and really effective. However, we were inspired by only a few of them and invite you to familiarize yourself with them below. Especially good, according to the My English Classroom team, are the poems of the psychologist, teacher and journalist Alexander Pyltsyn, who developed an express intelligence method for learning English. We also liked the short stanzas-sayings of the poet and prose writer Eugene Papusha.

For the article, the simplest and most popular examples were chosen that even a small child will learn. Rhyming rights are reserved by the authors.
