When Belarus performs at Eurovision. Thanks to NaviBand for a great performance

Today, the second semi-final of Eurovision 2017 will take place in Kyiv, in which the Belarusians NaviBand will take part. The musicians will perform at the International exhibition center composition "History of Maygo Zhytstya" and will fight for a ticket to the final. With support, we went to the capital of Ukraine and on the eve of the semi-finals we assess the chances of the Belarusians.

Why do we love them and what does the number look like?

NaviBand is a duet in which a guy and a girl sing touching songs about love and other sentimental things. Bribes it primarily external (and, I want to believe, internal) sincerity.

Another important factor- the language in which the composition is performed. "History of Maigo Zhytstya" is the first Belarusian-language song with which our country performs at Eurovision. Prior to this, the artists representing Belarus at the competition performed numbers in English (it is believed that this is the best option).

The number is criticized primarily for the fact that it does not quite correspond to the content of the composition. Like, the song is positive, bright and light, and the number is rather dull. It looks like this: Artem and Ksyusha perform on a large platform, which is something like flying ship, in the background behind the artists, the geometrically correct outlines of buildings change, towards the end of the composition, the picture explodes with fireworks.

What do they think in Kyiv?

As we have already said, Kyiv met Eurovision quite indifferently. Many attribute this to the fact that on the eve of the competition there was a big weekend and many simply left the city. In addition, the first semi-final was held on May 9 - on a big holiday, which somewhat drew attention away from the competition.

- In general, those who are interested in the competition, of course, in the subject, say the locals. - Young people seem to know that Eurovision is being held in the city, they even remember that Jamala won last year. But what is happening now, not really in the know.

However, when it comes to the composition of the Belarusian participants of Eurovision, the people of Kiev nod their heads approvingly: they say, we know, we heard. First of all, Ukrainians are captivated by the fact that the song is performed in Belarusian. Many of the locals consider Belarusians to be the favorites of the contest and promise that all of Ukraine will vote for them. This, of course, is not a representative sample, but you can catch the general mood.

How do bookmakers react?

A few days before Eurovision, bookmakers' forecasts for NaviBand were disappointing. Before the start of the competition, the Belarusians were at the very bottom of the table and occupied 34th place in the overall standings - the result was so-so. The latest rating does not differ much from the previous one: Belarus has moved up five positions and is in 29th place - this is not enough even to reach the final of the competition.

Still in 1st place italian artist Francesco Gabbani.

His bookmakers called him the main contender for victory even before the start of the competition. Francesco's number is incendiary dances and typical eurodance with a tangible influence of Italian disco - in general, no revelations, but strong Francesco takes it with his charisma.

In the ranking of bookmakers, he pressed the 17-year-old Bulgarian and is now not far behind the Italian. Sobral brought to Kyiv a rather ascetic number (there is a minimum of scenery and special effects on the stage), but it is very beautiful and melodic: jazz, bossa nova and whispering Portuguese are mixed here in the most wonderful way.

On the other hand, the Yandex.Music service has collected all the songs of the Eurovision 2017 participants, for which you can vote "like". "History of Maygo Zhytstya" takes a confident 1st place in this rating.

What do journalists say?

When you ask journalists from other countries about a Belarusian song, everyone gives a thumbs up.

- They are definitely in the top 5 of the competition. It's really good composition, which I would take with me on a trip to the car,- the Portuguese journalist, wrapped in the flag of his native country, said on the eve of the first semi-final.

Already on May 10, journalists were telling how sorry they were for the Finns, who did not make it to the final of the competition - in this they were almost unanimous.

- All the favorites of the competition qualified, only the Finns, unfortunately, did not qualify for the final,- says a specialist from Spain. - For me, they were also favorites: Blackbird is a beautiful song. Now for me one of the main favorites is Portugal. Collected - best singer in this competition. Also Italy, Sweden and Armenia - they are fantastic.

"History of maygo life"? She is cute and different from other songs. And for the first time from your country there will be a song in the Belarusian language. As for the chances, Belarus, I think, will reach the final. We are not talking about victory, but you will get into the top 10.

After the rehearsal of the second semi-final, a journalist from Australia, who danced all two dozen songs, admitted:

- I am happy that Australia made it to the first semi-final: the contestants are much stronger in this.

- Fortunately, we have qualified,- says the specialist. - It is a pity that Finland did not make it to the final: I believe that they simply had to be among the finalists. I also liked Sweden.

In the second semi-final, a lot good songs and performers. Croatia, Belarus, Romania, Estonia - I think they have great compositions. I love Belarusian very much, she is wonderful. I think you will definitely be in the top 10.

In general, when it comes to the History of Maygo Zhytstsia, journalists, describing the range of emotions, use the phrase “so much fun”.

Who are the competitors and who should you pay attention to?

The second semi-final will feature 18 artists, the same number as the first. In addition to the favorite from Bulgaria, which is now in the 3rd position in the ranking of bookmakers, Serbia, Austria, Macedonia, Malta, Romania, the Netherlands, Hungary, Denmark, Ireland, San Marino, Croatia, Norway, Switzerland, Lithuania will be represented in the semi-finals , Estonia and Israel.

A rather unexpected number with Tyrolean tunes was presented by the Romanians.

We are waiting for the results of Eurovision 2019, which will be announced tonight. In the meantime, we recall the history of all Eurovision contests - what they were like for Belarusians.

In total, for 16 participations, Belarus made its way to the final of the competition only 6 times. Made it Dmitry Koldun (2007), 3+2 (2010), (2013), THEO(2014), group NAVIBAND (2017), XENA (2019).

15 times Belarusian representatives performed songs on English language. And only in 2017, the NAVIBAND group sang a song in the Belarusian language.

Only 7 times the performers had a hand in creating their competitive composition - Alexandra and Konstantin(music) in 2004, (music) in 2009, (words and music) in 2012, THEO(music) - in 2014, (music) - in 2015, NAVIBAND(words and music) - in 2017, XENA(music) - in 2019.

The most expensive performances were from Anzhelika Agurbash, Dmitry Koldun, Ruslan Alekhno, Alena Lanskaya and Litesound. And the most budgetary ones are from Alexandra and Konstantin, Anastasia Vinnikova and Polina Smolova. The performance budget of many artists is still unknown.

The highest place in the semi-final (4), as well as in the final (6) was taken by Dmitry Koldun. He also owns the Belarusian record for points scored - 176 in the semi-final and 145 in the final.

But the worst result belongs to Polina Smolova- 22nd place in the semi-finals.

7 times Eurovision commented Evgeny Perlin, 2 times Ales Kruglyakov, 7 times - Denis Kuryan, who once assisted Alexander Tikhanovich.
