Story
The Ricchi e Poveri group was born in Genoa in 1967 as a result of the division of two groups: "I Jets" and "I Preistorici". The group "I Jets" consisted of Angelo Sotju, Franco Gatti and their friends. Angela Brambati was a member of the I Preistorici trio. She knew Angelo and Franco, often came to hear I Jets, and when that group broke up, she left I Preistorici to form a trio. Later, Angela introduced Franco and Angelo to Marina Occhiena, who also did vocals, and thus the trio became a polyphonic quartet called Fama Medium, derived from the first letters of their names. After an audition in Milan, their first producer was Franco Califano, who changed the band's name to "Ricchi e Poveri" and also suggested new image participants. Marina was turned blonde, Angelo's blond hair was further bleached, Angela's hair was cut short, while Franco became long. Califano explained the meaning of the new name by the fact that all four were rich in their talents, but financially poor.
