The 23rd Golden Mask all-Russian theater award ceremony has come to an end.

The next "Golden Mask" is awarded to Vladimir Etush, at the moment when the artist appeared on the stage - the whole hall stood up to greet the artist. Also, for his contribution to the development of theatrical art, the artistic director of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater, People's Artist of the USSR, Oleg Tabakov was awarded.

People's Artist of Russia, Andrei Savvich Borisov is also awarded a special prize. And, finally, the "Golden Mask" is awarded to Rezo Gabriadze, who, unfortunately, could not come, and therefore a video message from him is played on the screen above the stage.

The Golden Mask is awarded to actor and director Yevgeny Kotov, who died on March 21 this year.

The award was also presented to the artist Aigum Aigumovich. His "Golden Mask" will go to the Republic of Dagestan.

Ingeborga Dapkunaite and Igor Kostolevsky appeared on stage to present the laureates with a special award of the STD RF for their outstanding contribution to the development of art. During her speech, Dapkunaite noted that she does not consider theater to be an "objective business."

At the end of the ceremony, the Special Jury Prize was awarded drama theater and puppet theatre. A special award was given to Timofey Kulyabin, director of the Novosibirsk Red Torch, as well as Igor Volkov, Vitaly Kovalenko and Elena Vozhakina, actors of the play "On the Other Side of the Curtain" staged by Andriy Zholdak in Aleksandrinka.

Finally, the winners in the two most long-awaited nominations have been announced: “Best Performance small forms y" - "Magadan/Cabaret" at the theater "Near the Stanislavsky House" and "The Best Performance of a Large Form" - at the Mayakovsky Theater.

During the presentation of the prize, the director of the theater said that the theater dedicates this "Golden Mask" to Igor Kapustin, a lighting designer who passed away last year.

Marius Ivashkevičius for his work on "The Russian Novel" at the Mayakovsky Theater received a prize in the nomination "The Best Work of a Playwright".

For the best female role in the DRAMA nomination, the legendary Evgenia Simonova is awarded for the role of Sophia Tolstaya in The Russian Novel at the Mayakovsky Theater.

And the prize for the best director this year was awarded to the artistic director of the Tovstonogov Bolshoy Theater - Andrey Moguchy for the play "Thunderstorm" at the Bolshoi Theater.

Danila Kozlovsky was awarded the "Golden Mask" in the nomination "Best Actor" for the role of Hamlet in the sensational performance of Lev Dodin. Entering the stage, the artist thanked his teacher and part-time director of the play.

In the nomination "Best Supporting Actress" Elena Nemzer is awarded for the Role of Pantaloons in "The Crow" by Nikolai Roshchin, at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. The prize for Best Supporting Actor goes to Holger Münzenmaier for his role as Deacon in the play Once Upon a Time, presented by the Sharypovo Drama Theatre.

And today you can’t pat anyone on the head - they’ll bite off your hand, and you have to hit on the heads, hit ruthlessly, although we, ideally, are against any violence against people. On his own behalf, Mironov added that he is now observing how artists have united and do not allow others to "hit themselves on the head."

Best Artist Viktor Antonov was selected in the Puppet nomination for his work in the play "Iron" at the Puppet Theater of the Republic of Karelia. And the prize for the best director goes to Natalia Pakhomova for the play "The Fairy Tale with Closed Eyes" The Hedgehog in the Fog "by the Moscow Puppet Theatre. However, Natalya herself could not attend the award ceremony, as she was at the release of the performance in another city, and the artistic director of the Moscow Puppet Theater received the award for it.

In the DOLL category, the awards are given by Alexander Borok, the chief director of the Chelyabinsk puppet theater and Maria Litvinova, one of the founders of the Trickster Theatre. Elena Solovieva was recognized as the best costume designer in a drama theater. And finally, the "Golden Mask" for the best work of the artist in the drama receives Nikolai Roshchin.

Artists this year are awarded by Galya Solodovnikova and Alexander Shishkin. Robert Wilson was awarded for the best work of a lighting designer in the MUSICAL THEATER category for staging La Traviata at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre. Elena Turchaninova was recognized as the best costume designer in the musical theater for the play "The Snow Maiden" in the Novosibirsk theater "Old House".

For the best work of an artist in the nomination, Etel Ioshpa was awarded for the production of Salome at the Novaya Opera Theater.

And finally, the Dialog Dance Company received a special award from the MUSICAL THEATER jury. By the way, this is the third "Golden Mask" Dialogue Dance; one of its founders, Evgeny Kulagin, came out to receive the award.

This year, a record number of performances of all genres claimed it. The final list of nominees included theater productions from different cities of Russia: 28 drama performances, 13 operas, 5 ballets and 9 modern dance performances, 4 operetta/musical performances, and 8 puppet performances.

Danila Kozlovsky was recognized as the best dramatic actor for the role of Hamlet in the Maly Drama Theater of St. Petersburg. Actress Yevgenia Simonova also received recognition, playing Sophia Tolstaya in the play "Russian Romance" at the Mayakovsky Theater. The same performance received the third "Mask" as the best performance of a large form, and in the "Small form" section, the performance "Magadan / Cabaret" of the Moscow theater "Near the Stanislavsky House" was noted.

Andrey Moguchiy became the best director in a drama, as in the previous year - he received an award for the play "Thunderstorm" at the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater. The prize for the best female supporting role in a drama went to Elena Nemzer from the Alexandrinsky Theater for the role of Pantaloon in the production of The Raven, and for the best male role - to Holger Münzenmayer (The Deacon in the play Once Upon a Time by the Sharypovo Drama Theater).

The best performance in the operetta-musical was "The Binduzhnik and the King" of the Krasnoyarsk Theater for Young Spectators, Roman Feodori was awarded as the best director for this performance. Maria Biork, who played Sonya in the play "Crime and Punishment" (Musical Theater), received the award for the best female role in a musical operetta.

The Golden Mask Award was established in 1993 by the Union of Theater Workers of Russia on the initiative and with the participation of its chairman, People's Artist of the USSR Mikhail Ulyanov.

Participation procedure

Any theatrical group in Russia is entitled to take part in the selection, if it sends an application to the Golden Mask Directorate in due time. All received applications are considered by two expert councils (drama theater and puppet theater; musical theater), which determine the list of nominees for the award.

The annual solemn awards ceremony is preceded by the Golden Mask festival, during which shows of performances nominated for the award are held. The winners are determined by secret ballot by the jury of the festival. It consists of two separate commissions: in the performance competitions of the Drama Theater and the Puppet Theatre; in musical theater competitions. The composition of the jury is formed from among the leading theatrical figures: actors, directors, critics, etc. As a rule, each jury commission consists of about 15 people.

Reward

The winners at the solemn ceremony are awarded a prize - a mask in a square frame, made according to the sketch of the stage designer, People's Artist of the Russian Federation Oleg Sheintsis. According to the artist, when creating the award, he was thinking "of a bewitching, dangerous theatrical performance... The theater is a mystery. The mask is its symbol... The Venice Carnival with a Venetian under the mask is my ideal theater." Therefore, Oleg Sheintsis took the mask of the Venetian carnival as a basis, adding to it an element of Russian state symbols - a double-headed eagle.
