What is the best rock band in the world. Top Rock Bands

Behind long years the existence of hard rock, many bands have appeared that can be considered the best of the best. The main creators of the style who created the modern look of the hard rock style can be considered the following. It is advisable to divide them into two groups, founders and heirs.

Classic hard rock bands

The first include Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, recognized as the three pillars of hard rock. They are the ones.

Led Zeppelin. The group is recognized as the best hard rock band and is the founder and pioneer of heavy metal. It was the "zeppelins" that laid the foundation and developed the basic principles of sound for future generations. It was also the Zeppelins who were the first to write, which became a hallmark of hard rock in the 80s.

Black Sabbath. The musicians are considered the founders of heavy metal and many other styles of heavy music. They also had an influence on the formation of punk rock. The early Black Sabbath albums, and especially Tony Iommi's riffs, had a great influence on the way guitarists played in the late 70s.

deep purple. Another significant group Albums of the third lineup (Mark III) are considered classics of the genre, which is still recognized as one of the best rock songs. This is especially true for Machine Head and In Rock albums, which take 2nd and 3rd places in the list of the best hard rock albums in the Classic Rock edition list.

Uriah Heep. This group is often forgotten, because even in Britain they are considered only the 4th hard rock group. However, the work of the "hips" of the early 70s brought a lot to the development of music. David Byron's high vocals soon became the benchmark for some heavy styles, and the songs seem to be considered no less classic by connoisseurs than Child in Time or Stairway to Heaven.

Def Leppard. The British team is prominent representative era new wave heavy metal. However, they soon moved away from heavy music towards a more commercial sound, which subsequently developed in the Americas in special genre Glammetal.

Post-classic hard rock bands

The teams that continued to popularize and develop the genre, which is symbolic, are not the British. Raised in the mists of London, the genre has evolved under the hot American sun. It is advisable to include all of the following among the leading teams of American hard rock.

Kiss. The main merit of the collective is the formation of the atmosphere of the show at concerts, which is now characteristic of all groups of heavy genres. Incendiary in every sense Kiss concerts and bright make-up contributed to the popularization of the group, and their work in the 70s is recognized as one of the best to this day.

Aerosmith. The team, which for the United States became a counterbalance to the British hard rock invasion. Their work went through a decline in the 80s, but in the 90s they returned to the top along with the famous ballads - Crazy and Cryin".

Bon Jovi is one of the iconic bands of the hard and heavy era. It was Jon Bon Jovi who became the progenitor of the direction of melodic hard rock. The main achievement of the hard rock group is the album Slippery When Wet, which sold more than 25 million copies and is considered the best-selling record among American hard rock bands of the 80s.

By the way, John often plays poker and likes to visit American casinos, preferring Atlantic City. You can play casino online without going on an expensive trip across the ocean. To do this, just go to game-avtomaty.com and select the appropriate type of slot. The site supports the ability to login through social networks and the MD5 game fairness control system.

Van Halen. It was Eddie van Halen who happened to make a revolution in the sound of the guitar in heavy music. His two-handed tapping technique, invented early in his career, became especially popular in the eighties, changing the sound of all the bands of the new generation. The first attempts to light up Van Halen made back in 1976 with the help of Gene Simmons, but bassist Kiss turned out to be a poor assistant.

Guns n "Roses. In fact, they became the last significant group in the history of hard rock. Their song Welcome to the Jungle was even recognized as the most popular by VH1, and their debut album Appetite for Destruction is considered the most successful debut, as evidenced by its sales, which almost reached record Bon Jovi.It is symbolic that the same Jon Bon Jovi gave them a start in life.

Simply the best hard rock bands

But there are two more bands that every music fan knows about. They did a lot for the formation of the genre - some gave it enthusiasm, while others gave it soul. It's about about with Australian and German roots, which successfully took root first in England and then in the USA.

Incendiary Australians presented the world with a completely different kind of hard rock. Instead of long compositions with an abundance of solo parts and high vocals, they offered the perky three chords and the hoarse voice of Bon Scott, which became the hallmark of the band's early work. It is AC / DC, together with Led Zeppelin, that is considered the most commercially successful hard rock group, and their album Back in Black is the best-selling hard rock record, second only to the works of Michael Jackson.

Scorpions. The German pioneers continued the work of the Zeppelins. It is their love lyrics that are considered the reference on the world stage. They were the first to open the curtain commercial success for groups from continental Europe.

Hard rock in the USSR

In the USSR, hard rock began to develop only in the late 80s and the most prominent representative is Gorky Park, who also took custody of the ubiquitous Bon Jovi. The group released two groovy albums Bang and Moscow Calling (which is remarkable with different vocalists - Nikolai Noskov and Alexander Marshal, who now perform not rock at all), but then changed direction and soon disbanded.

In addition to these groups, there are many other groups that have not achieved such popularity. They can be distinguished into a special:

  • Grand Funk Railroad - the first USA;
  • Motorhead is an influential but commercially unsuccessful band that plays a wondrous mixture of hard, heavy and speed metal;
  • Rainbow - in fact, is a continuation of the traditions of Deep Purple in the version of Ritchie Blackmore;
  • Whitesnake - similar, but applied to ;
  • Dio is a solo project of an ex-Rainbow and Black Sabbath member;
  • Alice Cooper is best known for his shock rock affiliation, being the first to put on a real show on stage.

Linkin Park became famous thanks to the hit Numb, which appeared on radio stations in 2003 with the release of the Meteora album. Then these guys excited the crowd of fans and, of course, their competitors. They won two Grammys and were once named "Best Group" by the American Music Awards.

Three Days Grace is a Canadian rock band formed in 1992 in Norwood, Canada by Adam Gontier, Neil Sanderson and Brad Walst. In 2003, the musicians released the album Three Days Grace and in 2006 the album One-x, which received platinum status. For their musical talent, the group has been nominated an incredible number of times and received many music awards and awards.

In eighth place on the list of the most popular rock bands of the 21st century is Kasabian. This British rock band whose popularity is simply skyrocketing. It was formed in England in 1992. Considered a follower Rolling Stones.

Kings of Leon is an American rock band founded by three brothers: Kalebo, Jared and Nathan and their cousin Matthew in 1999. It was named after their father and grandfather. Already in 2003 Kings of Leon became famous all over the world. Today the guys remain very popular in Ireland, Great Britain and Australia.

Foo Fighters is an American alternative rock band that was formed in Seattle by the drummer of the Nirvana band shortly after the death of Kurt Cobain. This project was conceived as a solo project by Dave Grohl.

Arctic Monkeys are an English indie rock band that has released 5 studio albums: Humbug (2009) and Suck It and See (2011), Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (2006), Favorite Worst Nightmare (2007) and AM (2013). It was they who made the guys popular among young people and just connoisseurs of good music. Arctic Monkeys members: Alex Turner, Jimi Cook, Nick Omail and Met Helders.

This group is also from the UK. It was founded in Oxfordshire in 1985. Band members: Thom Yorke (vocals, piano, guitar), Johnny Greenwood (guitar, keyboards and other instruments), Phil Selway (drums, percussion), Ed Obryan (guitar). They released their debut album in 1992 called Creep. However, the popularity of the group began to grow only with the appearance of the second album Pablo Honey in 1993.

Scottish rock band consisting of four members, Simon Neil, James and Ben Johnston. This is a fairly young band, but already very successful, the musicians have a huge number of fans around the world. Biffy Clyro has recorded and released 8 albums, the last of which was released in 2016 under the name Ellipsis.

At the pinnacle of glory, this is how you can describe the position of this team on the musical Olympus. The group was founded by Jared and Shannon Leto in 1998. Interestingly, they took the name literally from the textbook. Classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Joy Division and others had a huge influence on its members.

Muse

The leader of our rating is the British rock band Muse. She was born in 1994 in Teignmouth. Muse recorded and released 7 studio and 4 live albums, gave a huge number of concerts and undoubtedly deserve the title of the best and most popular rock band of the 21st century!

A lot has been said about rock music. How does she instill freedom what it will be in the hearts of feelings. Much has been said about the performers. About their tragic stories, enchanting ups and downs, about their hits and soaring albums, or failures and songs that no one remembers for a long time. As for rock music, you can scratch your tongue for a long time and with pleasure. The conversation about rock bands will drag on for a longer time.

But! For some reason, it is customary to bypass the question: “Who is better?” Really, who?! Having asked this question, we begin to furiously scour the Internet in search of decent ratings. Opinions are many, diametrically different. Crowds of delighted or indignant fans appear around each list. Everyone wants his idol to take the honorary line. Yes, and evaluation criteria - more than enough. On what basis to evaluate? By the number of fans - it's too difficult to count them. In terms of the number of records sold, happiness is not in money. In general, each new rating generates a new srach. We do not want to offend anyone, we do not undertake to authoritatively draw up our own ratings.

Today's conversation will be devoted to the already existing rating of the authoritative magazine "Hit Parader". It is one of the few magazines that has dared to create a list of this kind, not being afraid of the seething opinions that this very list can generate. Here we will not scrupulously consider each position and explain the reasons why this or that performer takes this particular position. Our review will include the most famous rock artists, perhaps best modern rock bands(relatively young bands), as well as we will not deprive our attention of the 10 best rock bands in the world, according to the list.

So, having set all priorities, a review of the Hit Parader magazine version “The best rock bands in the world” rating starts right here. Let's go!

Starts the hit parade of the world's best rock bands German band “Accept”. The 100th line is, of course, not the most best result, but this is a list best performers of the whole WORLD, which means that getting into it is already an honor. So, German virtuosos and their "Teutonic metal" open the list.

The next on the list made me happy Lordi. To be honest, until 2006 I did not know about this Finnish masquerade at all. However, when they won the you-know-what contest, the costumed monsters quickly became super-famous and popular. Meanwhile, during the existence of the group (since 1992), they managed to sell more than 40 million copies of albums. This is quite an impressive figure, so the 98th position behind them is absolutely deserved, in my opinion.

And now the first rotten tomato will fly at me. Famous all over the world Rammstein- only on the 96th position. One of the most famous rock bands in Germany and only 96th line. Let's not guess why - so decided the critics of "Hit Parader". We express our sympathy to Rammstein fans, and we ourselves move further down the list.

Black Label Society- 89th place. A reliable friend and comrade of Ozzy Osbourne, Zach Wylde, did get his place in the list of the top 100 rock artists in the world. BLS have released 11 albums since 1998.

American "Scandinavians" with their true metal'om (true metal, as they call it) go to 82nd place. During its existence since 1980, lovers of Scandinavian mythology have accumulated an impressive discography: 13 albums, 8 video albums, 4 collections. With so much variety, it's no wonder they made it into the top 100.

New York anthrax Anthrax ranked 76th. Founded in 1981, the group managed to change the repertoire from heavy metal to rzhp metal and even groove metal. Among other things, the budding musicians spawned a dozen other successful musical projects. On account of five gold albums out of 14 (including compilations and live albums) records. Now also 76th place in the list of the 100 best rock bands in the world.

Immediately under Anthrax settled down P.O.D.. and it's a little weird. Their belonging to this list is, to put it mildly, incomprehensible to me. There is, say, Christian rock. But I couldn't imagine Christian rapcore or Christian metal. In any case, P.O.D. sold over 13 million copies worldwide. And it means at least something in the world.

Italians Lacuna Coil go to 72nd place. Obviously "gothic metal" means something if Hit Parader decided to place them that high. They have 10, no .. already 11 albums (they recently released Broken Crown Hero).

68th place in the list of the best rock bands in the world given to Limp Bizkit. Despite the fact that the group has almost completely ceased to exist since the period 2005-2009, "sticky cookies" once again delight fans with their new products. Well, Limp Bizkit has 40 million albums, tons of music awards and Wes Borland, appearance which can scare children. 68th place? Let it be.

Dave Mustaine was fired from Metallica still managed to get into the top 100 best rock performers on the planet. Megadeth - 66th. 14 studio albums and 38 million copies worldwide deservedly speak of such a high position.

Bon Jovi- line number 53. Despite the fact that in 2013 Bon Jovi became the most commercially successful band, having earned more than $ 100 million, they sat in the middle of the hit parade of the best rock bands in the world. Honor and respect!

Evanescence. Although they took a sabbatical for 5 years (I would like that), for past services to the whole world, Hit Parader placed Amy Lee and company in 52nd place. The achievements of Evanescence are obvious, they do not need additional advertising. 52nd line. Let's go further

I tried so hard, and got so far - line from the song Linkin Park. They tried so hard and climbed so high. 49th place. Two "diamond" albums ("Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora"), the circulation of each exceeded 20 million copies. A bunch of awards and an army of fans guaranteed them a place in the middle of our star list.

The concentration gets thicker closer to the leaders. Pink Floyd in 42nd place. The giants of rock music have existed for almost 30 years. More than 300 (!!!) million Pink Floyd albums have been sold worldwide. Pink Floyd is a whole era and therefore 42nd place is counted for them without a doubt.

Old people who don't age. Do you know who it is? Red Hot Chili Peppers. No one would think, but the group has existed since 1983 and has been playing for over 30 years. 60 million copies worldwide, 10 studio albums. The eleventh is being prepared for release. What about RHCP - 41st place.

One day, Pete accidentally broke his guitar neck on the club's low ceiling. The audience and the musician liked it so much that breaking the equipment became a tradition. Guess what I'm talking about? The Who - one of the oldest rock musicians in the UK. Discography bands The Who would be enough for a dozen bands: 11 studio albums, 11 live albums, 26 compilation albums, 58 singles, 6 video albums and 4 soundtracks. 38th place - The Who.

Motorhead! Lemmy can't go on tour, but past accomplishments lead motorhead to 32nd place. March or die! - so invitingly says the motto of their logo. Homemarched to 32nd position. With which we congratulate them.

The anniversary 30th place of Hit Parader is given to the Armenian guys from System of a Down. What about 5 platinum albums, invocative lyrics, your own own style. Well deserved.

Ozzy Osbourne outweighed Zach Wilde by as much as 60 lines. 29th place! I think Osborne is so famous that there is no need to describe his achievements.

19 studio albums, 34 live albums, 20 compilations and 15 live DVDs. Who else can boast such a discography? Only Deep Purple. The group has existed for more than 40 years, and its composition has changed so often that it is now customary to mark the compositions with numbers. In total, 14 people participated in 10 (ten!!!) different combinations in the group. I think now no one has any questions about the honorable 27th place in the list of “the best rock bands in the world”.

26th place goes to the group "Pantera". Among other things, the Group ranked 45th in the list of “100 the greatest performers hard rock" according to VH1, and #5 on MTV's "Top 10 Heavy Metal Bands of All Time" list. The band's discography includes 9 studio albums. And although only the last 5 brought them fame, the eighties albums also helped the guys from Texas to get to 26th place.

Top Ten:

Opens a list of ten leaders Marilyn Manson. Manson? In the list of top 100 rock music artists? You must be joking. But no! Brian Warner is known not only for music, he also has many works in films, and more than 150 watercolor paintings. A multifaceted talent to say the least. Well, since Hit Parader placed him in 10th place, so be it.

ninth place Motley Crue. The indestructible core of glam metal, Creates from 1981 to this day. 9 studio albums.

If you, looking through this text, were perplexed (yes, it’s a sin to hide something here, I myself am in shock) about where are THEY? Here! Metallica- eighth place. Everyone who has eyes and ears knows about Metallica. Over the past 32 years, the band has managed to develop a discography of 9 studio albums, 4 live albums, 5 mini-albums, 46 singles and 24 video clips. The number of awards does not know the score at all. It's not for nothing that Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer are called the "big four of thrash metal"

Seventh place - AC/DC. The most popular group in Australia and one of the most popular in the world. Over 200 million albums have been sold worldwide. The album "Back in Black" has sold around 64 million copies worldwide. Just unbelieveble!

slipknot- sixth place. There are no comments here. I don’t know what the critics were guided by, but this is already too much!

On the fifth line - queen.“One time pop”, as Freddie Mercury himself called his music. I don’t know how disposable it is, but the fact that Queen songs have changed the world is for sure.

Fourth place gets Led Zappelin. And no wonder. The world circulation of albums is even greater than that of Pink Floyd. Among other things, according to the rating channel VH1, Led Zappelin take first place in the list of "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock", and Rolling Stone magazine recognizes them as the "Best Band of the 70s". Impressively.

Guns'n'roses on the third place! During the existence of this team (since 1985), a total of 22 people have been in its composition. Perhaps even VIA “GRA” did not change the composition so often. 6 studio albums, 17 music videos, 21 singles. Sold over 100 million copies worldwide. There is something to be proud of.

In second place Van Halen. Over the 40 years of its existence, the group recorded 12 studio albums, traveled the whole world and became the inspiration for such giants of rock music as Pantera and Deep Purple. Edward Van Halen was named the best guitarist of all time in 2012 by Guitar World magazine.

Well, the group heads our list KISS. Over 45 gold and platinum albums and over 100 million albums sold. 40 years of active concert activity, thousands of performances. 19 studio albums, 32 video clips, 10 live and 14 video albums. For 40 years, KISS have done as much as probably no one else could. Perhaps that is why Hit Parader placed them in the first place.

Finally, a question. And where is The Beatles ? No, I'm serious. Of the 100 positions of the best rock bands in the world, there was no place for The Beatles? It's not even funny.
Well, we already knew that Hit Parader is a very subjective publication and oriented towards metal fans rather than classic rock music. Personally, I was extremely surprised by this position of the performers in the list.

However, no matter how these top 100 are shuffled and in what order, they remain the best. If you are looking for the best rock bands on the planet - just try something from this list.

Dozens appear every year musical groups who preach rock. Many of them, having achieved popularity, gather an army of thousands of fans at concerts and sell their discs in enviable numbers. True, only a few of these teams become truly legendary. We bring to your attention our top. It is called " Top Rock Bands of all time."

Nirvana

Among the best rock bands of the XX-XXI centuries, the musicians from Nirvana deservedly deserved the right to be in this top. The team appeared in the late 80s in Seattle. And wide popularity came to him in 1991. That is, when a landmark album called “Smells Like Teen Spirit” appeared on the shelves of music stores. Thanks to him, the group managed to change the face of music itself, creating a completely new musical style. It's about grunge. Thus, Nirvana became not just another formation that preaches rock, but a real symbol of the generation, and the leader of the group, Kurt Cobain, became its voice. In 1994, Cobain committed suicide and the group went out of business. But Nirvana albums are still very popular. In total, the group recorded three studio releases. All of them sold in huge numbers.

Queen

One of the best rock formations of all time is the British band Queen. It appeared in the late 60s. The group never followed musical trends and certain stylistic standards. The finest hour for "Queen" was the appearance of the disc "A Night at the Opera". It was released in 1975, after which the team received a truly cult status. In subsequent years, the group boldly continued to experiment, creating controversial compositions and albums. One of the most iconic releases at that time was "The Works", "Innuendo", etc. In general, the group's creative baggage includes 16 studio releases.

Black Sabbath

The Birmingham band Black Sabbath is rightfully in the rank of outstanding rock bands that are not subject to time. After all, it was this formation that, at least, became the founder of such a style as “heavy metal” and, thus, had a great influence on further development all rock music. Black Sabbath was formed in the late 60s. Ten of the band's releases were in the top ten of British chats. By 2000, the total circulation of the band's records had already approached 70 million. In 2011, the band decided to reunite with the original line-up and two years later recorded a new album, "13", having conducted a large-scale world tour.

The Pink Floyd team is not only one of the best rock bands of all time, but also one of the most influential in the entire history of world music. The formation was created in the mid-60s in the capital of Great Britain. Quite bold musical experiments, philosophical texts and grandiose shows have become the signature style of the Floyds. Over time, the team became the real embodiment of all psychedelia in music. The epochal record of the group is "The Dark Side Of The Moon", dated 1973. For fifteen years it was in the top 200 of the best releases in the United States. Pink Floyd has released 15 studio albums with over 300 million copies sold.

The Doors was formed in 1965 in Los Angeles. The group was a symbol of the era of the late 60s and gave out compositions with deep lyrics to the mountain. The debut album immediately became a bestseller. She is still considered one of the best and most interesting in the world of rock. In 1971, after the death of Jim Morrison, the team actually ceased to exist. In all, The Doors have released nine studio releases. On this moment their total circulation is 100 million pieces. The band's discs are still in enviable demand, and therefore the fact that The Doors appeared in the top of the best rock bands of all time is, in our opinion, self-evident and more than justified.

This British quartet, which appeared in the late 60s, united four unique musician with great creative potential. In almost one decade of existence, the group has released ten studio records (circulation - more than 300 million copies). And all of them, without exception, had a platinum status. And the composition "Stairway to Heaven" is now considered one of the most popular in the whole world. A well-deserved fifth place in the top of the best rock-oriented bands of all time seems to be more than deserved.

deep purple

The Deep Purple quintet still exists and for its fans is not only a real "living legend", but also the best and most influential rock band, whose compositions are already considered "imperishable". Sharks of the pen and music experts appreciate the band's contribution to the development of hard rock and progressive music. Deep Purple was formed in 1968 in England. The members of the "classic" composition of this formation are rightfully recognized as virtuoso instrumentalists. The band's musical background includes the magnificent "live" album "Made in Japan" and the legendary rock anthem "Smoke on The Water".

The American-British band "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" appeared in the mid-60s. The soul of this musical formation was Jimi Hendrix. It was he who managed to create a whole direction in rock. Both on stage and in the studio, he constantly experimented with his favorite instrument. There has never been anything like it in rock music. Therefore, he is rightfully considered the "God of the Guitar", and his team is "the best rock band of all time." And although the band, before the death of Hendrix, managed to release only three studio records, all of them eventually became "classics", which are still sold in huge numbers.

Group " The Rolling Stones "appeared in the capital of Foggy Albion at the very beginning of 1962. Until now, it is considered the best and greatest "fatal" formation, which is not subject to time. In terms of the number of fans and popularity, the Rolling Stones can only compete with The Beatles. The team has released more than two dozen studio records. Of these, at one time eight releases in a row were recognized as No. 1 worldwide. The group became a world star when they released a single called "Satisfaction". He stayed at the top of the US charts for four whole weeks.

The legendary Liverpool quartet "The Beatles" existed for almost only one decade. But during this time, the names of the participants, in fact, have become household names. The music of The Beatles has become a truly incredible phenomenon in the entire history of world music. Their albums still diverge in enviable circulation. Therefore, this group can rightly be considered not only the best-selling, but also the best rock band. Moreover, not only of all times, but also of peoples.

On December 14 in Moscow Music Town and on December 15 in St. Petersburg "Waiting Room" Eläkeläiset will perform. The Finnish project, whose name translates as "Pensioners", plays a huge number of hits from different eras in the style of humppa (fast foxtrot with syncopation) and pretends to be old robbers. Since Eläkeläisetclearly intend to perform for a very long time, COLTA.EN remembered 10 bands that actually perform on stage from time immemorial and are not going to retire yet. ExceptThe Rolling Stones, noted V past year 50- anniversary.

1.
Blind Boys of Alabama

On stage: 69 years (since 1944)

A gospel group from the state with the official nickname "Heart of the South" appeared when its members were 9-12 years old. The group was originally called The Happy Land Jubilee Singers, but after the competition "Battle of the Blind Boys" with an ensemble Jackson Harmoneers from Mississippi, both projects changed their names - to Five Blind Boys of Alabama And Five Blind Boys of Mississippi.

In 1948 they recorded their first single "I Can See Everybody's Mother But Mine" for the label Vee Jay. While many gospel singers were transitioning into the more mainstream soul, Blind Boys of Alabama kept the original style. They played in support of Martin Luther King, Jr., but in general their audience was limited to churchgoers for African Americans. In 1983, the musicians took part in theater production "The Gospel at Colonus", which received two Off-Broadway awards and nominations for Pulitzer and Tony. Thanks to her Blind Boys of Alabama became known to the masses. They have received six Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award. Album Deep River produced by Booker T. Jones BBoA sang with Peter Gabriel on CD Up, on the Letterman show reimagined Jesus Lou Reed with the author. In the new century, their collaborators include Billy Preston and the rapper Gift of Gab, among the fans - Bon Iver.

They performed at the White House three times - under Clinton, Bush Jr. and Obama.

From the original composition to Blind Boys of Alabama sung by Jimmy Carter. And Clarence Fontaine is still alive, who, when his health allows, also joins the team. In 2006, another founder, George Scott, left the world. The band released a new album in 2013 "I'll Find a Way" and actively performs in his support with concerts.

2.
The Shadows

On stage: 55 years (since 1958)

The most famous instrumental rock band came into being when singer Cliff Richard, whose single "Move It" sold well in Britain, needed a team to perform. Guitarist Hank Marvin was found at the bar and agreed to take over if his friend Bruce Welch was also brought in. Name The Drifters, which was signed by the team working in the studio, soon had to be changed so as not to quarrel with the American vocal group.

In 1960, the group, which began an independent career, recorded their most famous number - Apache. In 1961, the still playing The Shadows drummer Brian Bennett. In 1968, the Shadows broke up, but the members continued to play with each other. The name was returned five years later. They even performed at Eurovision (contrary to the popular cliché, they had enough vocal numbers, Welch took the place at the microphone). In 1990, Bennett left, but in 2004 they managed to gather the participants for a farewell tour, but the farewell was delayed - it continues to this day. Note that Cliff Richard did not disappear from their horizon - The Shadows, for example, in 2009-2010 we went with him on a tour around the world.

3.
The Lords

On stage: 54 years (since 1959)

The Germans started with skiffle and beat music and continued with glam. From the classical line-up, vocalist Ulli Günther and guitarist Leo Lietz are in the ranks. They constantly rewrite old hits and play plywood on TV, but are rather remarkable for others: unlike other hard rock bands, The Lords were great comedians and used to make fun of stereotypes - for example, Beatle jackets turned into waiters' outfits.

4.
The Beach Boys

The family project of the three Wilson brothers, cousin Mike Love, and their buddy Alan Jardine now really looks like a crowd of retirees from Florida. A band that started out with surf songs quickly made it to mini-pop symphonies on record thanks to Brian Wilson "Pet Sounds", then returned to the roots and fell into extremes - all depending on whether Brian was able to get out of bed. Drummer Dennis Wilson drowned in 1983 and his brother Carl died of cancer in 1998. Then the group spread into several versions - according to the number of live participants. In 2012, they got back together and recorded a new album. "That's Why God Made the Radio" played concerts. However, now Mike Love, who now has more rights to the group, and Bruce Johnston, who replaced Brian at concerts in the mid-60s, are the team's constant. Others appear on a case-by-case basis.

5.
golden earring

On stage: 52 years (since 1961)

That's really the old-timers. The main line-up has not changed since 1970, when drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk joined them. The last album was released last year and is called in the style of "demon in the ribs" - "Tits'n Ass", he became gold in the homeland of the group. The main hit of the Dutch, "Radar Love", came out in 1973. By that time, the inhabitants of The Hague had already moved away from psychedelics to the more sought-after hard rock. They actively toured Europe, but in England, for example, they did not play for 40 years - from 1969 to 2009. In 2011, a postage stamp was issued in their honor in the Netherlands.

6.
The Spotnicks

On stage: 52 years (since 1961)

Instrumental rock band from Sweden, wearing in better times space suits on stage, released 42 records and sold them with a total circulation of 18 million. Before The Spotnicks Bo Starander and Bjorn Thelin played as a duo The Rebels, joined by guitarist Bo Vinberg, and the project first became known as Rock Teddy and The blue caps, and then The Frazers. They, of course, took the new name in honor of the Soviet satellite. The Swedes followed The Shadows And The Ventures and played instrumental surf, so the language barrier wasn't a problem for them. Their single "Orange Blossom Special" in 1962 he made it to the British Top 30. They replayed "Polyushko-pole" and "Hava Nagila". Jimmy Nichol flashed in the composition, replacing in The Beatles Ringo Starr on tour in 1964. In 1970, the group broke up, a year later their Japanese record label asked the group to resurrect. Vinberg has shuffled the line-up ever since, occasionally featuring Thelin and rhythm guitarist Bob Lander. A farewell tour is planned for May 2014.

7.
The Hollies

On stage: 51 years (since 1962)

Guitarist Tony Hicks and drummer Bobby Elliot came to The Hollies in the early years of its existence - and have been afloat ever since. But the creators, Alan Clark and Graham Nash (also known for the quartet Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), left the group in 1971 and 1968, respectively. All these years, the British have been on the wave of the mainstream, although their best work, of course, was composed in the 60s. Royalty per song "Creep" Radiohead, which turned out to be extremely similar to their "The Air That I Breathe", are not received by the participants, but by composers Albert Hammond and Mike Hazelwood.

It's funny, but in 2010, when The Hollies inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Hicks and Elliot (and their current line-up) were unable to perform at the ceremony, so Clark and Nash played with other old members.

8.
The Ideas of March

On stage: 49 years (since 1964)

A one hit band too can live as long as rolling Stones. A jazz-funk band from the Chicago suburb of Berwyn changed their name from The Shon Dels on The Ides of March in 1966 (their bassist read Shakespeare at school). By 1970 they had a contract with Warner Bros Records and single Vehicle in second place in Hot 100. After that, in 1973, they broke up. And they started playing only in 1990 - at the suggestion of the city authorities. As a result, even a new record came out. "Ideology" and the band returned to touring. In 2011, two of the members of the original line-up died, one left to do other things, but the group lives and performs.

9.
The Monkees

On stage: 47 years (since 1966)

The participants of the American comedy series of the same name at first pretended that they were musicians, then went on tour, began to record albums on their own, and then went on solo projects. In the 1980s, the forgotten series began to be shown again, and in 1986 the group began to tour, sometimes even in full force - the most intractable was always Michael Nesmith, who had experience playing the guitar and bass before filming and was quite pleased solo career. The main star of the group, Davy Jones, passed away in February 2012. However, this year The Monkees, already as a trio, made a new tour.

10.
"Myths"

On stage: 47 years (since 1966)

If you do not take into account the Soviet VIA, in which the only patriarch is usually the artistic director (for example, Pavel Slobodkin has been running the Cheerful Guys since 1966), the oldest Russian rock band, apparently, should be considered Myths. Leningraders started playing rock and roll at school. Two friends, Sergei Danilov and Gennady Barikhnovsky, performed on dance floors with their comrades and tried to compose the rock opera "Vremya". Their vocalist Yuri Ilchenko at some point performed with the Time Machine, which is now sometimes credited with the title of the oldest active rock band. They worked under the sign "People of Levenshtein" (such was real name radio presenter BBC Seva Novgorodtsev). We joined the Leningrad Rock Club and were the first to play at a "legal" club concert. Received the second prize at the I Festival of the Leningrad Rock Club. In the 1990s they toured Germany. Anniversary concerts were held. Even after the death of Sergei Danilov in 2007, the group continued to exist - say, they took part in the Golden Mile of Rock and Roll festival with Chaif, Picnic, U-Piter and Urfin Deuce. In 2010, a collection of the best songs "What will happen next" was released.

Bonus: The Zimmers and Peace Old Jazz Band

In addition to bands that have been playing for a long time, there are projects whose example shows that it is never too late to form a band. Eg, The Zimmers created as part of a documentary BBC about the life of the elderly and lonely, - the British answer to "Buranovsky grandmothers". The age of the oldest member of the group - Buster Martin - is 104 years old (alas, he passed away in 2011). The Zimmers perform cover versions of youth hits - from beastie boys before LFMAO- record singles and tour.

An example of an "unproduced" ensemble is - Peace Old JazzBand, which appeared at a Shanghai hotel in 1980, when the oldest participant, Zhou Wanrong, turned exactly 60. The rest of the participants were a match for him: they played jazz since the 1940s and saw everything from the Japanese occupation to Chinese turbo-capitalism. German director Uli Gaulk made a film about them As Time Goes By Shanghai!. The money for it was successfully raised in a crowdfunding network Kickstarter .
