  • chisel and hammer;

Replacing the front oil seal


When starting to replace the crankshaft cuff, you must first dismantle the pulley mounted on the crankshaft. To unscrew the pulley, we jam it with a chisel and unscrew the nut with an open-end wrench. Remove the pulley with a puller. If there is no puller, you can use a screwdriver or a chisel to pry alternately from different sides. Now we take out the old oil seal by prying it with a screwdriver.

We wipe the seat under the oil seal from dirt and oil. We carefully and evenly expose the new oil seal and apply the old seal on top and slowly push it into place with a hammer. Then we put the pulley in place. A new oil seal for this machine costs about 100 rubles, so there is nothing to complain about the price.

Replacing the rear sealing cuff of the crankshaft VAZ 2107


To accomplish this task, you need to drive the car to the observation deck. Then we remove the flywheel from the engine and unscrew the bolts of the clutch protective cover with an open-end wrench, and remove it from there. In order not to deform the crankshaft flange when driving in a new oil seal, it is best to remove the cuff holder. To do this, unscrew the bolts going to the mandrel of the cuff from the pallet and several bolts fixing the holder.

Replacement procedure

4. We get access to the box from the salon. The plastic console of the radio tape recorder, the gear lever and the protective cover are removed.
5. The starter mount is released and the unit is retracted to the side.
6. The speedometer cable and reversing lamp wire are disconnected from the box.
7. The hydraulic hose and clutch cylinder are unscrewed, the clutch housing cover is disconnected.
8. The box is supported from below, the fixing bolts are unscrewed. The gearbox can be moved to the side.

Before replacing the oil seal, the clutch together with the flywheel should be dismantled. Now the gland retainer is removed. Having freed the defective gland, they prepare a seat for a new part. The gland is pre-lubricated with clean oil. Using a mandrel, a new element is installed in the seat, after which the gasket in the stuffing box holder is also replaced.
Assembly work is carried out in reverse order.

Replacement of a back epiploon of a cranked shaft

  You will need: all the tools needed to remove the gearbox, clutch and flywheel (see the relevant subsections), as well as a 10 wrench, a flat-blade screwdriver, a hammer.
  1. Remove the clutch (see "Removing and installing the clutch").
  2. Remove the flywheel (see "Removal, installation and troubleshooting of the flywheel").
  3. Turn off two nuts of fastening of a forward cover of a crankcase of coupling and remove it.

  8. Remove the gland from the holder using a screwdriver.

  9. Lubricate new oil seal engine oil, install it on the holder from the outside, orienting the working edge towards the centering protrusions A.
  10. With light blows of a hammer through the mandrel, press in the oil seal until it stops.
  11. Inspect the holder gasket. Replace a heavily compressed or torn gasket.
  12. Lubricate the gasket of the holder on both sides with sealant and glue it to the holder for ease of use.
  13. Install the holder together with the gasket and install all the bolts of its fastening without tightening them.
  14. Install a special mandrel on the crankshaft, thereby centering the holder relative to the shaft (in extreme cases, center the holder on the stuffing box).
  15. Slightly tighten the bolts securing the holder to the cylinder block.
  16. Finally cross-tighten the bolts securing the holder to the cylinder block.
  17. Finally tighten the bolts securing the holder to the oil sump.
  18. Establish the removed knots and details in an order, the return to removal.

Oil seals, or cuffs as they are simply called, are present to keep engine oil from leaking out and act as a barrier to dust entering the engine. Under normal operating conditions, this mechanism is able to serve long years. On average, it is designed for 150 thousand kilometers, after which it should be changed. Oil leakage may indicate this. As a rule, replacing the VAZ-2107 crankshaft oil seal is necessary when:

  • you noticed that this element seemed to be squeezed out of its normal position - this happens when the oil pressure is too high and the old oil seal cannot cope with it;
  • there was a leak at the junction of the gearbox and engine.

What leads to quick damage to the seals

We have already figured out that they should be changed regularly over time. However, there are a number of factors that can lead to faster damage to the cuffs. Among them, the most common are:

  • contact with old oil;
  • engine overheating;
  • defect in the part itself;
  • using bad fuel.

Mechanism replacement

In the case of replacing the front oil seal, it is quite simple to change it. But as for the rear, you will have to pretty tinker with it and spend more time. In the case of an injector, you can change the cuffs without removing the radiator.

Immediately before the work itself, you should put your VAZ-2107 in the pit and de-energize the battery.

After it is extremely important to turn on the first gear - so you can fix the crankshaft. Be sure to also securely lock the vehicle in place with the parking brake. The procedure itself takes place in the following stages:

  1. We unscrew the engine protection, remove the alternator belt and remove the alternator pulley.
  2. Now you will be able to clearly see the gland - we take it out with a screwdriver.
  3. The new cuff is well treated with oil and inserted into the right place.
  4. After we put in place all the details in the reverse order.
