Every game in the Need for Speed series, ranked from worst to best. Five of the best Need for Speed in the history of the series

Almost every year a series Need For Speed pleases us with a new game. And 2017 was no exception, the shelves were attacked by a new part under the heading Payback, which again promised to restart the series and become one of milestones in franchise development.

It turned out for her, in the end, or not, let everyone decide for themselves (no!). Should we expect a new NFS in 2018? It's not clear yet. Therefore, I decided to give in to nostalgia a little and recall five, in my opinion, the best parts of the most recognizable racing series in the gaming industry.

5th - Need for Speed: Shift Series (2009 - 2011)

After the release of the absolutely disastrous Need for Speed: Undercover (2008), Electronic Arts thought that the series needed a radical reboot. Ultimately, the new authors of future games were Slightly Mad Studios - known to the gaming community for the GT Legends and GTR 2 projects.

The first attempt by the new team to turn NFS into a serious car simulator turned out to be controversial. Despite the rather addictive gameplay with races on real tracks, the game was criticized for its strange physics and boring career mode.

Chic study of car dealerships was one of the main features of the game.

Nevertheless, Shift sold well and two years later saw the light of its improved version - Need For Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed. Where the developers tried to take into account the mistakes of the predecessor and focus on innovations.

It was already difficult to blame the second part for the career mode, because the developers added licensed championships.

True, the shortcomings of the first part still scared the audience away and Shift 2 sold very poorly. As a result, EA decided to drop further development series towards serious motorsport and broke off relations with Slightly Mad.

Revolutionary, at that time, the Autolog system turned the usual multiplayer into a real multiplayer challenge.

But despite the sad end, these games turned out to be one of the most original and unusual in the series. For which they leave the fifth place of my top.

4th place - Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed / Porsche 2000 (2000)

In 2000, EA suddenly decided to conduct a small experiment on the series. The place of adrenaline chases was replaced by a unique trip along the autumn European tracks, and hot sports cars were replaced by a journey into history and a run-in of production cars of the Porsche brand, produced from 1950 to 2000. Moreover, for a detailed acquaintance, the developers built into the game a whole interactive encyclopedia, which made it possible to examine and “feel” each car in detail.

No drive and passion, only spiritual satisfaction from driving a beautiful car.

To enhance the aesthetic pleasure of gameplay the developers slightly complicated the physics of car behavior, due to which the game finely balanced between arcade and serious simulator.

But despite all the great features of the game and a fairly large number of dedicated fans, Porsche Unleashed was a commercial failure. After which Electronic Arts even decided to cover the series. True, over time, the project still became a cult and remains so to this day, and therefore it gets the fourth place in my top.

3rd place - Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit (1998)

After a very mixed reception of Need For Speed II, the developers listened to the criticism and in Hot Pursuit decided to return the series to its roots, concentrating the gameplay on the adrenaline battles of racers with cops as much as possible.

The physics in the game has become more arcade-like, due to which the emphasis has shifted from driving to the side of sensations of speed from chases.

In addition to the beautiful, for those times, graphics and high-quality soundtrack, the game was noted for the opportunity to take on the role of a policeman. This concept turned out to be so successful that the players did not even notice the simplification of the beloved encyclopedia and the absence of expensive videos.

In 2002, a sequel was released for the game, and in 2010 a full-fledged remaster. Although the games turned out pretty good, they never managed to earn the level of cult that the original Hot Pursuit had.

As a result, the third part was sold with a record circulation for the series, and the mechanics and concept laid down in it determined the face of the franchise for long years forward. For which she gets the third place in our top.

2nd - Need for Speed: Underground Series (2003 - 2004)

While on the screens of cinemas the “Fast and the Furious” rumbled with might and main, thereby forming a layer new culture, EA, having decided on a bold step, has radically changed the image of its racing series.

So the world saw Need For Speed Underground, which, unexpectedly for everyone, offered to change from boring expensive sports cars to massive Japanese small cars, and change picturesque landscapes to the roads of a night metropolis.

Oncoming traffic and a crazy sense of speed, complemented by an amazing licensed soundtrack, created a great street racing atmosphere.

At the same time, no one was particularly embarrassed by the outrageously simplified physics and the monotony of the tracks. Why, after all, now most of the time the players were in the garage, where, using tuning, they turned their inconspicuous factory cars into unique works of art.

E Ron Don Don…

Needless to say, the sales of the game were so crazy that exactly a year later the sequel fell on the shelves - Need For Speed: Underground 2

Conceptually a new game has not changed one iota, only the scope has changed: open world, an increased variety of tuning and cars, stylish plot inserts with a Playboy star in leading role and a huge public relations company.

Tuning the second part could boast of an extensive amount various items to modify the car and many at some point simply did not have time for racing.

The success and impact of the series was so phenomenal that street racing became not only a popular topic of conversation, but also formed a separate game genre, where every second one released his race through the night streets.

According to the plot, the player was required to defeat the fifteen most influential racers, each of which is not just a name on the board, but a separate character.

The icing on the cake, in the new project, was the return of the already solidly forgotten police and supercar fleet. The game again caught on adrenaline battles with the cops, where each meeting with representatives of the law turned into a truly hardcore test not for the faint of heart.

Chases were not just additional mechanics, but very important part gameplay.

As a result, Most Wanted has become a real collective image of all the successful finds that have accumulated in the series over twelve years. Thanks to this approach, the game attracted both a new audience, who fell in love with street racing, and an old one, who loves to ride on autumn tracks in sports cars from the pursuing police. This is what made the game almost an ideal race for all generations of Need For Speed fans, for which it gets the first place in my top.

***

Let in last years, the legendary series is not doing well. But we very much hope that this is only a sign of a slightly prolonged crisis of self-determination. After all, after all, the series is only twenty-three years old, and its best times are yet to come.

I don't think any of our Coop Gamers have played Need for Speed 1994, yes yes, it was in this promising year that the first part of the best series of racing games was released - The Need for Speed. And already the very first release influenced the future of the game, because the implementation, and the graphics for this year, were gorgeous. Since the 20th century, it has gone around the world as one of the best series. And not in vain "went", everyone began to buy it: both children and adults. Okay, enough history.

Today I suggest you choose the best part of the game, the best implementation of arcade racing. Let's forget about the graphics, because the horse understands that every year the graphics in games are improving, and therefore in our franchise too, let's choose according to other criteria, the plot there, or the part where the coolest fleet of vehicles from the entire series. Although if the main thing for you is the image quality on your 40-inch monitor, then please, but I will evaluate these games according to other characteristics ...

And yes, I will not list all the parts Need for Speed, you understand, there are a lot of them, but I will present best releases from a series according to the worldwide network. So, let's begin!

Need for Speed: Underground

Olympic City is a fictional city in which events take place underground. Racing driver Ryan Cooper moves into a new but completely unfamiliar crowd, Samantha sees him as a good driver and decides to raise her reputation on his skills. She helps him get used to the city and explains the situation on the streets, talking about the Eastsiders and their leader Eddie. Ryan Cooper decides to take the lead in street racing, he has to defeat every member of the gang and meet his main rival on Nissan Skyline GT-R 34.

At all Need for Speed: Underground became popular mainly due to the film on which it was based - fast and furious. This is the first NFS series where car tuning appeared. The game has 6 types of races and 20 cars, among which are Mazda RX-7, Mitsubishi Eclipse And Toyota Supra, these cars were used in the first part of the film The Fast and the Furious.

And the next masterpiece of the series was:

Need for Speed: Underground 2

was released after a successful debut underground and became a continuation of a wonderful series Need for Speed. The action also unfolds with the participation of cool and expensive parts, but the plot is completely redone, but is a sequel to the previous part.

New city - new cool cars and no less funny girls. Ryan Cooper comes to new town- Bayview. The "unbeaten" city is divided into five districts, each with its own king. Rachel, the hero's new girlfriend, introduces him to the city in which Ryan will have to try and become the leader of all parts of Bayview, while investigating the events of the accident of the applicant for the place of the city's best street racer.

IN there are 7 types of races, and the interior has been replenished with 11 cars, in the collection you can count 31 mind-blowing cars.

Continuing to recall our favorite street racing series, we move on to the 9th edition:

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

"Blacklist" is the most prestigious table on the streets for illegal racers, which cannot be said about the other side. The cops compile this list, including the city's most wanted flawed racers. The hero loses his BMW in a rigged race, but Mia gives the player a chance by giving them money to new car. Now the racer strives to get into the TOP 15, running away from the cops and winning "fights" from street racers.

45 exclusive units are in the showroom, and hundreds of spare parts and paint jobs are waiting for you in the garage. was the renaissance of NFS in the realm of the chase and this is one of the first games that came out on the Xbox 360.

Skipping a sequel MW - Carbon we will remember:

Need for Speed: ProStreet

Honestly, my favorite car simulator game, in a system of damage appeared, which is divided into 3 stages.

The plot tells about the same Ryan Cooper, about that glorious street racer. But the guy is tired of wandering the streets, winning everyone, he decides to become a professional carrier and therefore makes his way to official closed races in order to get into the line of the best riders in the whole world. But for this he will have to compete with 5 race kings in his class and in the end meet face to face with the king of the finals who disliked him - Ryo Watanabe.

10 various kinds races can not but please the eye, and in addition, with 76 cars, and generally there is nothing to talk about. Though ProStreet and does not provide us with a free ride and chase with the police, the game is certainly good.

The first representative of NFS, which was published in the store, is the 12th part of the famous series:

Need for Speed: Undercover

Events Undercover take place in Tri-City. The main character is taken to work undercover in the police. The task is as simple as a drop of water: expose international criminals by quietly infiltrating a gang of street racers.

Need for Speed: Undercover did not recognize the critics as successful, since the previous part of ProStreet gave a lot to the players, and Undercover did not live up to expectations. Yes, and there were fewer cars compared to the last game, but the players liked the series, despite the opinion of professionals.

Next "om of our duel becomes:

Need for Speed: Shift

The game, which essentially has no plot, has become quite popular. Well, yes, after all, not everyone is interested in an exciting plot, someone just wants to compete in sports cars with other racers, feeling the roar of the engine and the movement of the car, albeit virtual, and that’s it and provides us.

The developers immediately said that they would be fixated on the implementation of the behavior of the car, rather than on something else. 19 tracks and 93 luxury cars are waiting for their player, they will do their best to make him feel the beauty of racing.

Do not blame me, but I will let you out of the selection, since it was primarily developed for PS3, and was not successful in the opinion of many players, although the graphics were on top, terrible tuning and an unfinished plot "killed" the quality of the picture.

Well, the last in the series and in our battle becomes:

Need for Speed: Rivals

Anniversary issue Need for Speed, became popular due to its online process and the game, both as a policeman and as a racer, and the graphics also became a reason for this. Since the developers are fully loaded with the assembly of the game, they did not have enough imagination for the name of the city and they simply changed two letters of the city from Need for Speed: Underground 2, naming the scene - Redview.

Competition between friends, realistic weather system, as well as a smooth transition from single player in the network make themselves known, thanks to this, it impresses the players, but the tuning of the car again leaves much to be desired.

So let's sum it up! The right to name the best race in the series Need for Speed provided just for you, if there is still a series better than those listed above, write in the comments, put lois, until the next battle!

Pro street in my opinion is the best part, tuning is very cool

hello my dear readers! Back in the dashing 90s, the phrase "Need for Speed" became synonymous with the word "". And although gamers can play any other games, but so far no one has been able to surpass the popularity of this particular one (or at least repeat it). Is it so difficult? Maybe we will get the answer to this question if we analyze all the parts and find out which Need for Speed is the best?

You can find countless ratings of such a plan, polls and TOPs on the Internet, and, mainly, opinions different people catastrophically does not match mine. Analyzing information on the Internet, I saw that in one chart some guy put a part of 2013 in first place, Rival.

This is what prompted me to share with you. own opinion and wrote a post about his gaming addictions.

Which Need For Speed is the best - parts ranking

For some reason, I doubt that any of the readers of this article played the 1994 part. But it was then that the first series of world races was released. And already the very first game influenced the future parts, because the company amazed everyone with its implementation, and the graphics, which by those years were simply breathtaking. Just think that the game was released in the last century, and to this day it scatters around the world in billions of copies as soon as the company releases a new part.

Oddly enough, the last step in my rating is Rival, the game was released 3 years ago. This set became popular due to the ability to play online, in addition, the player himself could choose who he wanted to be: a racer or a policeman. Since the creators of the game have fully booted technical questions, they did not have enough fantasies to name the cities somehow.

Games with friends on a grid and constant rivalry, a real picture and constant changeable weather. It was only thanks to the network strategy that this part paid off, but car tuning could have been better…

A small video reviewer about this cult game:

Moving on, on our course - Shift

This game, by and large, has no storyline, but she became quite popular and found her player. Well, yes, after all, not everyone sits down at the computer to watch an exciting story, someone just wants to compete in sports cars with other gamers, hearing the sound of the engine, albeit virtual, and this is what NFS Shift provides.

The developers immediately noted that they would pay more attention to the cars themselves than to something else.

Do not judge me harshly, but I will not add The Run to my list, since it was created for the third generation Sony PlayStation, and, according to many gamers, turned out to be a failure. The creators focused on excellent graphics, but even in spite of this, terrible tuning and an unfinished story "interrupted" a high-quality picture.

Then in my ranking comes a part called ProStreet

The emphasis was shifted from street racing to more professional race tracks. Now the car could be beaten to smithereens and this, to the delight of competitors, reduced its driving performance several times. The police disappeared, and with them the free ride around the world.

Such a buzzword as “traction control” and “abs” appeared in the setting - not all gamers realize that they can be turned off, as a result, everyone complained en masse about disgusting control.

Besides, for different types racing must be used different types machines. All this creates the effect of being out of touch with the world - fans of the racing simulator Colin Mcrae Rally could play this part, but NSF fans were at a loss what happened to their favorite game. It can be called the most unfortunate part, but it is far from successful either - it is unusual, sometimes misunderstood, with its pluses and minuses.

The run

The developers of the company are not against experiments, and in this part, the players again saw a lot of updates. NSF already has a storyline.

Of course, it was before, but it was not visible so brightly. The main character is drawn into the showdown of the mafia and now, in order to part with the enemies in good relations, the guy needs to win the race, where 500 people take part and give the money won to the mafia. And for the first time in the game, this character realized that you can leave the car and just walk down the street. Not simultaneously with the race, of course (it's still not GTA).

All races are part of one big show. Since the hero will travel across the country, a variety of exciting attractions are included: mountains, rivers and megacities and villages, night follows day, here gamers will see races - for every taste.

Therefore, the main advantage of this part, in addition to the development of the storyline, is the graphics - it is worthy. To the minus - despite the variety of attractions and beautiful picture, races become the same type over time and quickly get bored. Perhaps this is the reason for such mixed responses.

In the rating of parts of the NSF, I could not help but add "Undercover"

Game critics were very strict: Igromania, exactly a year ago, wrote a lot of positive reviews of the ProStreet series, but this time she gave the next part only 5 points, accusing the creators of every mortal sin. Other colleagues in the shop had the same opinion, the authoritative publication Playground wrote that Undercover is the worst of all the previously presented parts.

But, of course, the opinion of all experienced critics cannot be compared with the point of view of gamers who wrote only positive reviews Underground. What is the reason for such disagreements? And what opinion should be believed?

Let's start with what we looked at the most: the creators took the car park from Prostreet (there are so few new cars that you can list them on the fingers of one hand), and physics, most likely, has not changed in 12 months. The cops were picked up from the Most Wanted, the cop chases got easier. Like the rest of the game, the races are relatively easy, especially when you get through the first half of the game.

In general, there is a certain lack of completion in the game - as if the creators wanted to make the second part of the Bridge Vonted, but a great idea was ruined by poor implementation and advertising. Despite this, the game has found its fans - it is recommended to beginners who have just discovered the world of racing. But for those who have already played NSF, it will seem boring.

The best nfs for tuning is, of course, Underground!

It was this series that launched a new era.

At that time, the films "Fast and the Furious" became popular, and the release of this part of the NSF hit the nail on the head. Racing at night, expensive cars and unique tuning are successfully combined in this game. Of course, there is room for oldfags who immediately commented that "EA already releases the wrong games."

But if you look at it, this part was a success completely deservedly so. The creators thought out the tracks to the smallest detail: many different areas were endowed with their own atmosphere and successfully combined against the general background of the game.

Something similar can be traced with the proposed game modes: the classic race was competently diluted with drift and drag track, thanks to which the Underground could not get bored. Well, the well-known and popular tuning allowed everyone who considered himself a street, sorry for the word, a racer, to fasten as many stickers, lights, spoilers and other invariable attributes on a car as your heart desires.

Yes, not here in question about reality - there are no cops in the game, and physics has clearly been pushed beyond the boundaries of reality. But instead of cool and expensive cars, players could drive not so elite, but cool cars, which were often found on city streets. This part gave a feeling of breakneck speed for a whole generation, and rightfully became the best racing arcade of those times.

Further, in my rating, the second part of the sensational Underground

What new things can you come up with in less than 12 months? By all the laws of the gaming business, after the success of the previous part, it is simply unrealistic to create something more original in a year. And according to the same laws, the second part was supposed to be a game for fast money: added new tracks, new vinyls and spoilers, several cars and sent to stores. But this is absolutely not the case - making a choice between a stable income and an adventurous solution for a completely updated game, EA took a chance and added an unrealistic amount of new ideas and solutions to the sequel.

The main revelation of this part is an open world in which you can easily move between races, while visiting new stores with useful goods to improve your car. In addition, the creators have added new race modes, now you can apply for sponsorship. The number of free cars has grown several times - at the same time, many cars, like a jeep, did not help much in the races, but were bought just to ride with the breeze.

And what is the last need for speed?

This is what I wanted to ask you. Have you already played this part? If yes, share your opinion and write which part of NSF is your favorite. I will be glad to your comments! Subscribe to and always stay up to date. Bye, dear friends!

Few people have not heard of Need for Speed, the famous racing franchise. The games in the series have collectively sold over a million copies, and the series has been made into a separate movie. The series has many fans around the globe, and the developers never cease to amaze fans with experiments in the series.

Since the 90s, Electronic Arts has released a new project in the series. The list of games is quite wide, but not all of them were successful. Nevertheless, a lot of projects-pearls came out. In this article, we list the best games Need series for Speed.

10. Most Wanted (2012)

The game should not be confused with the 2005 project of the same name in the same series. This Criterion project continues the arcade tradition laid down by Criterion (as opposed to the realism of the Forza Horizon series).

The game has beautiful graphics, a large fleet of cars - from Aston Martin to BMW - which are perfectly controlled. A large number of events and races will not let players get bored. The game will not disappoint longtime fans of the series.

9. Need for Speed (2015)

This reboot of the series was meant to be a return to form. The games in the series up to that point had not received high ratings from critics and players. The developers have made this game a feature of constant updating - events and sudden events in the game world appeared with a new update of the game. The downside is that the game requires a constant online connection.

The plot of the game is presented in the form of full-length video inserts that tell the story of the underground racers of the modern metropolis.

8 Nitro (2009)

This is the first game in the Need for Speed series, created specifically for the Wii consoles. The project perfectly uses the features of the peripherals of the console from Nintendo and will allow you to drive at high speed through the virtual streets. The graphics, by Wii standards, were also on point. In addition to the Wii Remote, it was possible to control additional accessories in the form of a steering wheel. The game has become a great racing project on the Nintendo console.

7 ProStreet (2007)

Released in 2007, the game became one of the best in the series, following the breakthrough Carbon. Unlike past projects, the game emphasized legal racing, and the famous chase mode from the cops was a thing of the past.

However, the project bribed others: great sound effects and a wealth of options for car customization. The car could be adjusted to your type of driving. The game also included a choice of game modes familiar to Need for Speed players. Choosing Need for Speed: ProStreet, you will definitely not be disappointed.

6 Carbon (2006)

The game came out a year after the iconic Most Wanted, and she had to not lose her face. The developers did not let us down: the project was good in all respects.

The nightlife of a huge metropolis was reproduced especially well in the game, which made it similar to the projects of the Underground subseries. Car customization has also been expanded, and now you can model individual car parts as you wish. The fleet was striking in diversity - especially muscle cars, which were controlled in a completely different way. If you liked Most Wanted, this game is not to be missed.

5. Rivals (2013)

The first game in the series for eighth generation consoles. The project amazed the owners of Xbox One and PS4 with great graphics and drawing of the environment. From Most Wanted, a large open world was borrowed. The world of Review County not only looked great, but also offered endless opportunities for racing and additional tasks. It was possible to participate in the chase on the side of the cops or robbers, drive cool sports cars like the Porsche 911.

It is on the game of "cat and mouse" that the emphasis is placed in the game, and if you have long wanted to play in virtual reality chase from your favorite movie, Need for Speed: Rivals is for you.

4. Shift (2009)

Although players associate Need for Speed with arcade rides, the tradition of the series has changed with the release of Shift. This game offered gamers a more realistic driving style, a simulation in the spirit of Gran Turismo.

No police chases, no cut-scenes storyline, no open world with a thousand missions - pure racing fun at the Dakota and Silverstone racetracks. The emphasis on driving has paid off: few games in the series have since replicated the sensation of high speed.

3. Shift 2: Unleashed (2011)

If you liked the more realistic driving model of the first game, then go and new project in the Shift sub-series. The driving model is closer in realism to projects like Forza Motorsport. New tracks - for example, Shanghai - and a large number of cars greatly increase the fun of the game compared to the first part.

2. Most Wanted (2005)

Speaking about the best games of the Need for Speed series, one cannot ignore the classics. Most Wanted at one time won the hearts of fans of racing simulators around the world. Until now, for many, it remains a favorite game of the series - all thanks to the adrenaline races with the police and the superbly designed virtual city of Rockport.

The goal of the game is simple - to win a place in the sun in illegal races throughout the city and regain lost prestige. The game is a classic of the series and a must for every fan of the game.

1 Hot Pursuit (2010)

Without a doubt, Best game series of Need for Speed is Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. The game returned to the series' arcade roots. The setting was also memorable - the virtual city of Seacrest impressed with beautiful landscapes, realistic changes in weather and traffic.

You could play as a policeman or a racer. Each side had its own means in the fight against the opponent, for example, the cops had spikes on the road. A large fleet of vehicles - Bentley, Porsche Panamera and many others - made it possible to realize any racing dream in the game.

You can buy it in the PiterPlay store.
