Sveshnikov Alexander Vasilyevich - Soviet choir conductor, teacher, head of the State Academic Russian Choir of the USSR, rector of the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky, National artist USSR, professor.

Born on August 30 (September 11), 1890 in the city of Kolomna, Moscow Region. Russian. In 1913 he graduated from the Music and Drama School of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, and also studied at the People's Conservatory. From 1909 he taught singing in Moscow schools. In 1928-1963, he directed the choir of the All-Union Radio Committee, in 1936-1937 - the State Choir of the USSR, in 1937-1941 he headed the Leningrad Choir. In 1941, he organized the State Russian Song Choir (later the State Academic Russian Choir) in Moscow, which he led until the end of his days.

Since 1944, Sveshnikov taught at the Moscow Conservatory (since 1946 - professor), in 1948 he was appointed its director and remained in this post for more than a quarter of a century (1948-1974), continuing to lead the choral class. Among the students of Sveshnikov: V.N. Minin, L.N. Pavlov, V.S. Popov, K.B. Ptitsa, V.V. Rovdo, B.G. Tevlin, M.B. Yurlov and others. In 1944 he also organized the Moscow Choral School (now the Academy choral music), which took boys 7-8 years old.

In 1913 he graduated from the Music and Drama School of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, studied musical and theoretical subjects with A.N. Koreshchenko, as well as B.L. Yavorsky at the Moscow People's Conservatory.

From 1909 he taught choral singing in Moscow schools.
In 1921-1923 he was the organizer of amateur children's choral performances in Ukraine, led the choir. chapels in Poltava. In 1923-1928 he was the head of the vocal part of the 1st studio of the Moscow Art Theater. In 1928-1936, he was the artistic director of the vocal ensemble (later the choir) of the All-Union Radio Committee organized by him; in 1936-1937 - artistic director of the State Choir of the USSR, in 1937-1941 - of the Leningrad Academic Chapel.
Since 1941 - headed the State Russian Song Choir organized by him (later - the State Academic Russian Choir of the USSR). Organizer (1944) and artistic director of the Moscow Choir School.
In 1944-1974 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory (in 1944-1948 he was the dean of the conducting and choral faculty, since 1946 he was a professor, in 1948-1974 he was a rector).
Chief conductor of a number of Moscow song festivals. Organizer and chairman of the All-Russian Choral Society (until 1964), member of the jury of the International Competition named after P.I. Tchaikovsky in the section of vocal art (1966, 1970, 1974).
