Screensavers

In 1990-2000, the screen saver of the transmission looked like this: bright stripes quickly move parallel to each other towards each other, thus forming a field of sixteen even squares. Further, the field becomes three-dimensional, as if acquiring volume (in three-dimensional form, it becomes like a bar of chocolate). Under a kind of champing sound, three-dimensional colored symbols descend on the field various forms, each character eventually occupies one square. Then the main musical motive of the intro sounds, under it a field of squares takes off into the air, rises and against its background it is written in pink letters “ Field of Dreams ". Then the field flies off the screen (while the music continues), and soon returns, turning over reverse side, which is a regular gray square. The square descends behind the words “Field of Miracles”, and then under the resulting composition, the phrase “kap and tal show” appears letter by letter. The background music in this screensaver changed slightly in 1993 . In 1991, after the advertisement and before the super game, blue paper arrived with the word "Field Wonders Capital Show". From 1992 to 1995, ads were preceded by a screensaver with jumping gold letters on a black background.

From the autumn of 1995 to 2000, after an advertisement on ORT, the game drum rotates in the screensaver of the program, the camera approaches it so that the points on the sectors are not visible. With each new sector, letters appear under one sonorous note, forming the words " Field of Dreams". At last change sector, a golden frame appears, which, like a square from an old splash screen, falls into the background. In the intro of the supergame, the square with the word "Field of Miracles" began to rotate rapidly, after stopping in the square it was already " Super game ". Also at that time there were splash screens for individual sectors.

The modern opening screensaver, in use since December 29, 2000, shows the game's studio and a flying spinning reel. An image of Yakubovich is formed on the screen from the stars. Then the word "Field of Miracles" is lit by letters. All this happens to a shortened version of the music from the first screen saver, while it sounds twice, first in a jazz style, then, when the letters are lit, in a standard one. In a truncated form, they also existed for the commercial break. Before the super game, we see the word "SUPER" written in lilac letters in the top line, and the word "game" formed by lit bulbs in the bottom line. In March 2009, the image of Yakubovich was removed from the splash screen, and the splash screen itself goes into more slow pace.

Studio decoration

In 1996, the upholstery of the table at which the players stood changed from light blue to dark blue, with stars and a characteristic ornament that the entire studio was decorated with, at the same time, the steps that the host went down changed color from blue to dark blue. Multi-colored triangles were placed on the scoreboard, under the scoreboard on a blue surface was placed the logo of the program, written in pale pink paint. There was a small luminous element on the floor near the drum in order to give a background when the image of the drum is shown from above. Decorative lanterns dotted with small white bulbs were placed on both sides of the scoreboard. Since that time, the super-game has been using permanent "minutes to think" music, while from 1991 until the change in musical design there was (as far as possible) silence until 1994. In this year, for the first time, a melody for reflection began to sound.

Since 1992, the drum has remained the same, but slightly modified. In the center of the drum was a small tip resembling the tip of a pike. The arrow has changed, but remained on the drum. Instead of a rod that played the role of a brake, they attached an ordinary plastic strip, similar in size to a twig. The drum rotated a little faster, one handle was missing, one was completely with a different knob (with a black ball, but smaller). In the middle of 1992, sectors were re-pasted on the same drum to color ones. The maximum number of points increased to 450, the minimum - up to 10. Since the fall of 1992, the drum has been changed again, the color scheme has remained the same, the drum now has not one “Prize” sector, but three, the “Alternative” sector has been removed, the number of points has now increased minimum 75, maximum 750.

In the middle of 1993, a new drum was installed, which was 2 times smaller than the previous one, with low vertical handles, the maximum number of points was 750, the minimum was 100; the arrow was already away from the drum and was a blue small triangle. At the tip of the arrow there was an elastic band as a continuation of the arrow, which slightly slowed down the drum. If the brake was on one sector, and the arrow pointed to the adjacent one, then the sector indicated by the brake was counted. The drum rotated much more slowly, stopping quickly and swaying quite strongly due to the fact that it was very heavy: when they showed how many points fell out (the camera showed a close-up of the sector pointed to by the arrow), you could see how the drum vibrated.

Since January 1994, the arrow shimmered with all the colors of the rainbow. On May 5, 1995, in an issue dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War with the participation of its veterans, other handles were put on the drum, essentially the same vertical ones, but higher and gilded, the inner diameter of the drum became smaller, thereby ensuring elongation of game sectors, and visual expansion of the drum. The drum was cut in height (thereby making it lighter), so the drum rotated for a very long time and smoothly from a weak push. Since the drum was spinning for a very long time, the presenter could now communicate with the players for longer. The arrow was again placed on the drum.

Until 1997, the arrow on the drum symbolically caught the vertical handles of the drum, but did not slow it down at all. In 1997, the arrow was shortened so that it points exactly to the sector that fell out to the player. Some time in 1997, when the player started spinning the reel, musical theme rotation continued to play where it stopped (as from 1993 to 1995), that is, it did not start playing again.

In the autumn of 1999, some intermediate chords were cut out of the drum melody, thereby making it shorter, as the drum began to stop faster.

At the end of 1999, a drum with lights on the sides was installed: the drum looked like the prototype of 1993-1999, only much higher and one and a half times larger, with bulbs on the outer and inner radii. In 1999, the sector values were marked on the drum quite large print, the coloring of the surface of the inner radius of the drum was, in fact, like the entire drum, black and white, but with very frequent stripes. The arrow was patterned and did not blink, the bulbs on the sides did not burn. The black ones had red lights, the white ones had blue lights. The inner radius of the drum was slightly raised above its surface, since the inner radius also had light bulbs. The drum rotated smoothly and for a long time, like its previous prototype.

IN new year's eve from 1999 to 2000, in the issue “With the inhabitants of the Middle Ages”, the drum was changed (it can be seen at the beginning of the modern screen saver of the program): the points on the drum were applied in a smaller, familiar font, and the arrow also changed. The color of the surface of the inner radius has also changed: it has become a more familiar wide black and white stripe. The drum lights began to play rhythmically, with different speed, during the removal of the prize and rotation - quickly, in the normal state - slowly. The arrow also blinked. The drum began to rotate in much the same way as under Listyev.

On December 7, 2001, the drum was changed. It was light, spinning quickly, but stopped abruptly. The drum had uncomfortable plastic handles, small yellow-blue sectors and a narrowing at the bottom. Multi-colored light bulbs shone through the drum, which lit up during rotation. Unlike all the drums that were in the program at all, including the present, this one was not solid: the drum itself was in a stationary cylinder. The arrow of the drum was a pink small triangle attached to the frill of the drum.

November 3, 2005 (on the 15th anniversary) they put the drum in a predominantly blue color scheme with patterns on the sides and blue and white sectors. The bottom of the drum is patterned, and glows blue from the inside. The surface of the drum itself is flat, its diameter is somewhat larger than the bottom of the drum, so the drum is somewhat reminiscent of a dining table (although recently the drum has only served as a table). In the center of the drum is a golden star. The maximum number of points is 1000, the minimum is 350. The drum is heavy, besides, lately there have been various things on it, mainly fruits and sweets, which are in small baskets. The drum is completely loaded with them, only the sectors with the image of points are visible, so it is difficult to rotate it, it spins slowly and stops quickly. Instead of the usual vertical handles - silver balls. The arrow is away from the drum, but at the same time attached to it from below, the tip of the arrow is a large golden triangle. On December 30, 2009, in the 1000th Field of Miracles program, a large cake with the words "Happy New Year" was on the drum. For release on April 1, 2011, all sectors were re-glued to yellow-blue.

On May 20, 2011, the drum sound changed again to the one from 1996 to 1999. In the musical design, music ceased to play, which was a variation of the theme in which super prizes were given out.

Program design

Screensaver

In 1990, there was no screensaver, only the manufacturer's screensaver was shown - VID.

In 1991, the screen saver consisted of the following: first, bright stripes appeared, forming squares, then a light green surface appeared, divided into 35 squares. Figures appeared every second, then the inscription “ Field of Dreams ". After that, the surface narrowed and rose upward, then descended, changing color to gray, in the same form downward, beyond the inscription. Then the background color changed from black to asphalt, and the inscription “K A P I T A L S O U” appeared letter by letter.

Towards the end of 1992, the splash screen was improved. From that time until 2000, the bright bands moved rapidly towards each other parallel to each other, thus forming a field of 35 even squares. Further, the field became three-dimensional, gaining volume (and becoming like a chocolate bar), and was grayish-white in color. Under a kind of chomping sound (until 1993 - a dull noise resembling muffled applause), three-dimensional colored symbols of various shapes fell on the field, each symbol eventually occupied one square. Then the main musical motive of the intro sounded, under it a field of squares flew up into the air, rose, and against its background it was written in pink letters “ Field of Dreams ". When the phrase was completely written, the letters became translucent. (Before 1993, the music would only start after the end of writing a phrase). Then the field flew out of the screen (while the music continued), and soon returned, turning over with its back side, which is a regular gray square. At this time, the black background of the screensaver changed to a dark gray, reminiscent of asphalt. The square descended behind the words "Field of Miracles", and then under the resulting composition, the phrase "C A P I T A L S O U" appeared letter by letter. The musical arrangement of this screen saver changed a little in 1993 .

In 1991, after the commercial and before the super game, a blue paper with the word "Field of Miracles Capital Show" flew in. From 1992 to 1995, adverts were preceded by a screensaver with bouncing silver letters and a silver square frame on a black background with two sharp notes.

From 1996 to 2000, after an advertisement in the intro of the program, the game drum rotated, the camera approached it so that no points were visible on the sectors. With each new sector, letters appeared under one sonorous note, forming the words " Field of Dreams". The last time the sector was changed, a golden frame appeared, which, like a square from an old splash screen, fell into the background.

The splash screen, in use since December 29, 2000, shows the game's studio and a flying spinning reel. An image of Yakubovich is formed on the screen from the stars. Then the word “Field of Miracles” is lit by letters, and below, by letters, the phrase “K A P I T A L S O U”. All this happens to a shortened version of the music from the first screen saver, while it sounds twice, first in a jazz style, then, when the letters are lit, in a standard one. .

Musical arrangement

IN latest release 1995 introduced a new musical arrangement, a new drum melody, almost the same as the previous one, but with softer sounds. Since the drum was spinning for a very long time from 1995 to 2000, after about the first minute, a melody was inserted into the melody, at which super prize indicators were taken out. Changed the melody at the release of the first trio. Changed the sounds of sectors (jingles) of an unguessed letter. Introduced the sounds of an empty and money box. The melody has changed, at which the indicators of super prizes were taken out and placed on the drum. The melody "minutes for reflection" appeared. They replaced the sound of the prize taking out, however, as before, when the prize was taken out, and when the box was guessed, and when the word was guessed, the same melody was played, reminiscent of the fanfares of VID.

Sector splash screens

From 1996 to 2000, the splash screens of the sectors "Prize", "0", "Bankrupt", "x2", "+" have changed. They appeared at the moment when the sector fell out to the player. Close-up it was shown how the arrow stops on a particular sector. Then a square seemed to fly out from the sector designation, which then stretched to the whole screen, during the stretch, a box appears in the square with the inscription "Field of Miracles", which then falls down, at this moment, when the splash screen itself stretched to full screen, the box turns over and under a rhythmic sound from it jumps out one or another letter-designation of the sector on the game drum (Prize - P, Million - M, Bankrupt - B). .

In January 1998, the "Million" sector was renamed into the "Capital" sector (because of the monetary denomination), at first it did not have a splash screen. When the "Key" sector was placed on the drum in 1999, it also had a headband.

From 2000 to 2003, the splash screens of the sectors changed: "Prize", "0", "Bankrupt", "x2", "+" and "Chance" flew from colored triangles on a dark blue background, and the loss of the "0" sector was accompanied by a sound tube opening.

Supergame screensaver

From 1992 to 1995, super prizes were shown in a square in the screensaver of the super game and the words "Field of Miracles" were formed.

From 1996 to 2000, the supergame intro changed. The square with the word "Field of Miracles" began to rotate rapidly, after stopping in the square, it was already written "Super Game". At 02:18 .

From 2000 to 2011, the supergame intro changed: we see the word "Super" written in lilac letters in the top line, and the word "Game" formed by lit bulbs in the bottom line.

2011 to present uses the same intro as 2000 to 2011, but with music from the 1996-2000 supergame intro.

Rules of the game

The game is played in three rounds, each with 3 players.

The host thinks of a word (rarely a phrase) indicated on the scoreboard, and during the game gives suggestive hints.

In the early 1990s, there was an "insurance" consisting of the following: participants called an "accident" (for example: the "Bankrupt" sector fell twice in a row, not a single correct letter was named, the move did not reach at all, etc.), and , if something happened to the participant from which he was "insured", he received a cash prize.

Players take turns spinning the drum. Sectors with different number points that the player will receive if he guesses the letter, or special sectors:

  • Prize (P)- the player can choose: continue the game or leave it, but get the prize hidden in the black box. The host trades with the player for a prize, which can be any thing: from car keys to a pumpkin. Also, instead of a black box, you can take a cash prize (the player chooses the amount himself). If the player refuses the prize, then it is considered that the player has a sector with 2000 points.
  • Plus (+)- the player can open any letter according to the score (if this letter occurs several times, then all are opened).
  • Chance (W)- the player can call on the phone (the number is given by a random viewer in the studio) to get an answer or a hint. If on the other end of the wire they answer correctly, then a prize is sent to him. If a player refuses this sector, it is considered that he has dropped a sector with 1500 points. Currently, the "Chance" sector is displayed on the reel with the image of a phone.
  • Key- the player is given 5 keys, one of which is from the car. The player chooses one of these keys and tries to open the car door with it. If the key fits - the player takes the car, if not - continues to play. Moreover, this sector can be abandoned, and then the leader offers 2000 points for a guessed letter. But if the player used the sector and chose the wrong key, then the move from it passes to another player. Currently, the "Key" sector is displayed on the reel with the image of a key.
  • Bankrupt (B)- the points scored by the player are burned out, and the turn passes to the next player. If the "Bankrupt" sector falls out twice, the player is given an incentive prize.
  • Zero (0)- the points scored do not burn out, but the move is transferred to another player.
  • x2- the points scored by the player are doubled if he correctly names the letter (if there are two letters, then it is tripled, if three - it is multiplied by 4, etc.)
    • At the end of 1991, a sector was used on the drum Fant (F), the player fulfilled the host's wish.
    • From February 1992 there was a sector Alternative (A), the player was given a word of 6 letters, the player rolled a die 6 times, the number that fell out meant the letter of the score that should open, and after that the player had to name the word in order to play further. If he did not call this word, the move was passed to the next player.
    • IN new year time used sector New Year with a snowflake on the drum.
    • Also from 1993 to 2001 there was a sector Capital (K)(before the 1998 currency denomination it was called Million (M)), when the player was given two bags: one with bagels, the other with money, and he chose the one where, as he believed, there were three million rubles (after the denomination - three thousand rubles). If a player chose a bag of bagels, then he took the bagels and the move passed from him to another player, if a bag of money, then he took the money, and he still had the right to move, while the participant could name any letter.
    • In 1998-2001, the sector was used Scoreboard (T), the player opened special squares on the scoreboard, hoping to find a prize. (Sometimes there are also sectors from sponsors, when they drop out, prizes are awarded)
    • Also, from December 1995 to 1997, the sector was used Yunisstroy, in order to get new apartment, and in the thousandth issue, which took place on December 30, 2009, there was a sector Nescafe- a new show sponsor.
    • The November 23, 2012 issue used the sector Continent. The main prize was a TV .

There were also games based on Field of Wonders written for the Dendy console. There were two versions of the game, the first one was released in 1995, the playing field was pink, the presenter was absent, the musical accompaniment (the melody of the drum rotation) was copied from the Duck Hunt game, and the losing melody from the game Wild Gunman sounded at the Bankrupt sector. The second version was written already in 1997 and received a number of improvements, now you play on a black background, more new words to guess, a game mode for two. What was interesting in this version was that when guessing the letter, Mario appeared and opened the letter.

Another game based on the Field of Miracles was called "Fortune", developed by BBG corp. in collaboration with Alexander Chudov. It was notable for its high complexity. The player, having gone through the whole game, could win a million, but so far there has not been a single winner. Also, each cartridge had its own serial number.

Parodies

  • On March 17, 2012, a parody of the third screensaver (2000-present) was filmed in the program “Yesterday Live”, where the opening song sounded in the screensaver: “Dances, poems, lezginka, masquerade, a bunch of bullshit is banal, and the show is somewhere then 20 years ago it was intellectual”, and the intro went at a slow pace, and a shortened version of the music from the intros of 1991-1992 and 1992-2000 sounded 2 times.
  • In 1992, in the program “Both-On! "A parody of the Field of Miracles was shown, where the presenter of the real show - Yakubovich - in the real studio Field of Miracles represented drunkards, who were Ugolnikov, Voskresensky and Fomenko.
  • In one of the episodes of The Gentleman Show, a parody of the Field of Miracles was shown called "Bullet of Miracles", where the players were played

Story

The history of the Field of Miracles program began when Vladislav Listyev and Anatoly Lysenko rested in an ordinary hotel. The idea of creating a capital show was born while watching the American TV show Wheel of Fortune. The name for the capital show Vladislav Listyev took from A. N. Tolstoy's fairy tale "The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Pinocchio".

The premiere of the program took place on the First Program of the Central Television of the USSR on October 25, 1990. The first host was Vladislav Listyev, then episodes with different hosts were shown, and finally, on November 22, 1991, a new main host appeared - Leonid Yakubovich. Leonid Yakubovich's assistants are several female models, including Rimma Agafoshina, a permanent assistant, who opens the guessed letters and gives prizes to the players' children since 1996. Later, Listyev appeared in several issues as a co-host of Yakubovich until his death.

From October 25 to December 27, 1990, the program aired on Thursdays at 20:00. From January 1 to May 28, 1991, it aired on Tuesdays at 21:45. Since June 7, 1991, it has been published weekly on Friday evenings. In the case of single holidays, the program changes the day of the broadcast.

On October 23, 1992, the 100th issue of Field of Miracles was released, which was filmed on September 29 at. In this issue, the finalist lost his car due to a viewer's hint, after which Leonid Yakubovich changed the task, and asked the violator to leave the hall. The finalist could not answer the question of the changed task, but the prizes won were left to the finalist.

From April 10, 1995 to January 7, 2003, repeats of programs were aired on Mondays at 10:10, sometimes at other times. TV game episodes with Yakubovich from November 1, 1991 to March 31, 1995 appeared in reruns on the Retro TV channel in 2006-2007.

Released November 3, 2010 anniversary concert dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the broadcast. The concert took place at the Nikulin Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard (created jointly with Red Square), but this time there was no game as such. In October 2015, Field of Miracles celebrated its 25th anniversary.

A simple arithmetic calculation suggests that about 12,000 people participated in the program over 25 years. In addition to the usual releases in the studio at the drum, people have repeatedly celebrated their professional holidays: Builder's Day, Medic's Day, Miner's Day, Police Day, etc. New Year's programs, programs for March 8, as well as fun releases for April Fool's Day, have become traditional. One of the releases allegedly came from Africa, in fact they filmed in an ordinary studio. The program is especially sensitive to the Victory Day on May 9th. Annual special issues are always distinguished by special solemnity and brilliance.

Drum

A drum is a wheel with an arrow, like a roulette wheel, on which there are many sectors with the number of points (from 350 to 1000), as well as special sectors that bring a bonus or a penalty.

Special sectors

  • Prize (P)- the player can choose: continue the game or leave it, but get the prize hidden in the black box. The presenter bargains with the player for a prize, which can be any thing (from car keys, TV, player, a check for $10,000, tickets to a pumpkin, onions, a bottle of vodka, a toy car, slippers).
  • Key- the player is given several keys, one of which is from the car. Then an assistant comes up and shows that there really is a key to the car.

Rules of the game

The game is played in three rounds, each with 3 players, and a final, in which the winners of the rounds participate.

At the beginning of the round, the host announces the topic of the game to the participants. All questions in the game will be related to this topic, which can be anything (for example: owls, honey, weddings, iron). Next, the presenter shows a word encrypted on the scoreboard (rarely a phrase) related to the topic, and gives suggestive hints so that the players guess it. The main task of each player is to guess the word faster than his rivals and earn as many points as possible.

The players spin the drum. The first move is made by the player closest to the leader. He can get sectors with any number of points that he will receive if he guesses the letter, or a special (also temporary) sector.

When successful move the player names the letter of the Russian alphabet, which, as he believes, is present in the hidden word. If there is such a letter, then it opens on the scoreboard, and the player receives the number of points dropped out (if there are several such letters, all are opened, and points are awarded for each), and can spin the drum again or take a chance and name the whole word. If the named letter is not in the word (or if the move is ineffective), the right to spin the drum passes to the next player. The first player to guess the whole word wins. If the player calls the word incorrectly, then he is out of the game. The word can also be opened letter by letter by spinning the wheel and naming one letter per turn. In this case, the winner of the final is the player who opens the last letter.

Players who win their rounds advance to the final. The player who wins the final round is considered the winner of the game. He can choose prizes for the points earned (the number of points scored by the players is not displayed anywhere, and the amount of points earned by the winner of the game is announced by the host).

With three letters correctly guessed in a row, the player has the right to choose from two caskets, one of which contains money. If he guesses the box, he receives a prize of 5 thousand rubles, which cannot “burn out”.

The player is eliminated from the game if he took the prize (or money for it), or said the wrong word.

If two players left, then the rule works for the third three successful moves, introduced in 1993. It consists in the fact that the player, after three effective moves, must name the word - otherwise, he leaves the game and does not become the winner of the round. Thus, two or one player can play in the final; the game can also be left without a winner (if the above situation occurs in the final) or even without a final (if this happens in all three qualifying rounds).

Each trio, final and super game were held by independent companies.

In early 1991, a game with spectators sitting in the studio appeared, which existed until the fall of 2001.

Since the players are not alone in the studio, there is a possibility of an unauthorized hint. If the host heard a hint from the audience, the prompter is removed from the studio, and the host changes the task.

Super game

After the winner of the game has chosen prizes for the points earned, the host invites him to participate in a super game, where he can either lose everything or win a super prize in addition to the prizes earned.

In case of agreement, the player spins the drum to select one of the six super prizes. The host thinks of a word and gives the player the right to name several letters of the alphabet (the number of letters is called by the host, usually this is half the letters of the word to be guessed, if there even number letters, and half rounded up if odd). If the letters named by the player are in this word, they are revealed. After that, the player is given a minute to say the word. If he guessed correctly, he receives a super prize, if not, he loses all prizes won by points (only gifts and money from two boxes). Sometimes, however, one of these prizes, at the behest of the presenter, remains with the player.

For a short time in the second half of the 1990s, the Field of Miracles sector existed in the Super Game among the super prizes. His loss meant giving the player a jersey, cap and his release from playing the super game without losing everything previously won.

Since September 1, 2006, 2 additional words, crossing the main (a kind of crossword puzzle). To win the super game, the player only needs to guess the main (horizontal) one. If he also names vertical ones, then the car wins.

Program Museum

The program has its own museum, which stores items donated by the participants to Leonid Yakubovich. The Field of Wonders Capital Show Gift Museum was established in 2001, but its idea was conceived in the early 1990s. In the museum you can find the first box of the "Field of Miracles", the costumes that Yakubovich wore, numerous portraits of Yakubovich and much more. The museum is located in the Central Pavilion of the All-Russian Exhibition Center. You can touch most of the exhibits with your hands, you are allowed to take pictures, try on costumes. In August 2014, the museum was closed, but soon opened in September 2015.

Impact on culture

A phrase performed by Leonid Yakubovich, which ends with an exclamation: "... to the studio!" and, as a rule, begins with the words “gifts”, “prize”, entered into modern everyday speech and is used, in particular, as a stereotypical comment on forums, blogs, etc. It is built according to the scheme: “N - to the studio!” , where N is the object whose provision is required from the author of the previous message. For example: “pictures to the studio”, “evidence to the studio”, “links to the studio”, etc. The phrase “Car” by L. Yakubovich is also used, which is pronounced by stretching the vowels and with solemn intonation.

Games based on the program

In addition, in the 1990s, a desktop-printed version of the game was created, which is released under license from the television company VID.

Another game based on the Field of Miracles was called Fortuna, developed by BBG Corporation in collaboration with Alexander Chudov. It was notable for its high complexity. The player, having gone through the whole game, could win a million.

On September 20, 2012, The Field of Wonders game based on the TV program was released by Alawar. To date computer game closed .

An excerpt characterizing the Field of Miracles (TV game)

Prince Andrei arrived at the main army quarters at the end of June. The troops of the first army, the one with which the sovereign was located, were located in a fortified camp near Drissa; the troops of the second army retreated, seeking to join the first army, from which - as they said - they were cut off by a large force of the French. Everyone was dissatisfied with the general course of military affairs in the Russian army; but no one thought about the danger of an invasion of the Russian provinces, no one even imagined that the war could be transferred further than the western Polish provinces.
Prince Andrei found Barclay de Tolly, to whom he was assigned, on the banks of the Drissa. Since there was not a single large village or town in the vicinity of the camp, the whole huge number of generals and courtiers who were with the army was located in a circle of ten miles along the best houses villages on this side and on the other side of the river. Barclay de Tolly stood four versts from the sovereign. He received Bolkonsky dryly and coldly and said in his German reprimand that he would report on him to the sovereign to determine his appointment, and for the time being asked him to be at his headquarters. Anatole Kuragin, whom Prince Andrei hoped to find in the army, was not here: he was in St. Petersburg, and Bolkonsky was pleased with this news. The interest of the center of the huge war that was being carried out occupied Prince Andrei, and he was glad for a while to be freed from the irritation that the thought of Kuragin produced in him. During the first four days, during which he did not demand anywhere, Prince Andrei traveled around the entire fortified camp and, with the help of his knowledge and conversations with knowledgeable people, tried to form a definite idea about him. But the question of whether this camp is profitable or disadvantageous remained unresolved for Prince Andrei. He had already managed to deduce from his military experience the conviction that in military affairs the most thoughtfully considered plans mean nothing (as he saw it in the Austerlitz campaign), that everything depends on how one responds to unexpected and unforeseen actions of the enemy, that everything depends on how and by whom the whole thing is conducted. In order to clarify this last question for himself, Prince Andrei, using his position and acquaintances, tried to delve into the nature of the leadership of the army, the persons and parties participating in it, and deduced for himself the following concept of the state of affairs.
When the sovereign was still in Vilna, the army was divided into three: 1st army was under the command of Barclay de Tolly, 2nd under the command of Bagration, 3rd under the command of Tormasov. The sovereign was with the first army, but not as commander in chief. The order did not say that the sovereign would command, it only said that the sovereign would be with the army. In addition, under the sovereign personally there was no headquarters of the commander-in-chief, but there was the headquarters of the imperial main apartment. Under him was the chief of the imperial headquarters, the quartermaster general Prince Volkonsky, generals, adjutant wing, diplomatic officials and a large number of foreigners, but there was no army headquarters. In addition, without a position with the sovereign were: Arakcheev - the former Minister of War, Count Benigsen - the eldest of the generals by rank, Grand Duke Tsarevich Konstantin Pavlovich, Count Rumyantsev - chancellor, Stein - a former Prussian minister, Armfeld - a Swedish general, Pfuel - the main drafter of the campaign plan, Adjutant General Pauluchi - a Sardinian native, Wolzogen and many others. Although these persons were without military positions in the army, they had influence by their position, and often the corps commander and even the commander-in-chief did not know what Benigsen, or the Grand Duke, or Arakcheev, or Prince Volkonsky was asking or advising for. and did not know whether such an order in the form of advice was issued from him or from the sovereign and whether it was necessary or not to execute it. But this was an external situation, but the essential meaning of the presence of the sovereign and all these persons, from the court point (and in the presence of the sovereign, everyone becomes courtiers), was clear to everyone. He was as follows: the sovereign did not assume the title of commander in chief, but disposed of all the armies; the people around him were his assistants. Arakcheev was a faithful executor, guardian of order and bodyguard of the sovereign; Benigsen was a landowner of the Vilna province, who seemed to be doing les honneurs [was busy with the business of receiving the sovereign] of the region, but in essence he was a good general, useful for advice and in order to have him always ready to replace Barclay. The Grand Duke was here because it pleased him. The former minister, Stein, was there because he was useful for advice, and because Emperor Alexander highly valued his personal qualities. Armfeld was a bitter hater of Napoleon and a self-confident general, which always had an influence on Alexander. Pauluchi was here because he was bold and resolute in his speeches, the adjutant general was here because they were everywhere where the sovereign was, and, finally, - most importantly - Pfuel was here because he, having drawn up a plan of war against Napoleon and forcing Alexander believe in the expediency of this plan, led the whole cause of the war. Under Pfule there was Wolzogen, who conveyed Pfuel's thoughts in a more accessible form than Pfuel himself, a sharp, self-confident to the point of contempt for everything, an armchair theorist.
In addition to these named persons, Russians and foreigners (especially foreigners, who, with the courage characteristic of people in activities among a foreign environment, every day offered new unexpected ideas), there were many more persons of secondary importance who were with the army because their principals were here.
Among all the thoughts and voices in this vast, restless, brilliant and proud world, Prince Andrei saw the following, sharper divisions of directions and parties.
The first party was: Pfuel and his followers, war theorists who believe that there is a science of war and that this science has its own immutable laws, the laws of oblique movement, detour, etc. Pfuel and his followers demanded a retreat into the interior of the country, deviations from the exact laws prescribed by the imaginary theory of war, and in any deviation from this theory they saw only barbarism, ignorance or malice. German princes, Wolzogen, Wintzingerode and others, mostly Germans, belonged to this party.
The second batch was the opposite of the first. As always happens, at one extreme there were representatives of the other extreme. The people of this party were those who, ever since Vilna, had demanded an offensive against Poland and freedom from all plans drawn up in advance. In addition to the fact that the representatives of this party were representatives of bold actions, they were at the same time representatives of nationality, as a result of which they became even more one-sided in the dispute. These were Russians: Bagration, Yermolov, who was beginning to rise, and others. At this time, the well-known joke of Yermolov was widespread, as if asking the sovereign for one favor - his promotion to the Germans. The people of this party said, recalling Suvorov, that one should not think, not prick a card with needles, but fight, beat the enemy, not let him into Russia and not let the army lose heart.
The third party, in which the sovereign had the most confidence, belonged to the court makers of transactions between both directions. The people of this party, for the most part non-military and to which Arakcheev belonged, thought and said what people usually say who have no convictions, but who wish to appear as such. They said that, without a doubt, a war, especially with such a genius as Bonaparte (he was again called Bonaparte), requires the most profound considerations, a deep knowledge of science, and in this matter Pful is a genius; but at the same time it is impossible not to admit that theoreticians are often one-sided, and therefore one should not completely trust them, one must listen both to what Pfuel's opponents say, and to what practical people, experienced in military affairs, and from everything say take the average. The people of this party insisted that, by holding the Drissa camp according to the Pfuel plan, they would change the movements of other armies. Although neither one nor the other goal was achieved by this course of action, it seemed better to the people of this party.
The fourth direction was the direction of which the most prominent representative was the Grand Duke, the heir to the Tsarevich, who could not forget his disappointment at Austerlitz, where, as if at a review, he rode in front of the guards in a helmet and tunic, hoping to valiantly crush the French, and, unexpectedly falling into the first line , forcibly left in general confusion. The people of this party had in their judgments both the quality and the lack of sincerity. They were afraid of Napoleon, they saw strength in him, weakness in themselves and directly expressed it. They said: “Nothing but grief, shame and death will come out of all this! So we left Vilna, we left Vitebsk, we will leave Drissa too. The only thing left for us to do wisely is to make peace, and as soon as possible, before we are driven out of Petersburg!”
This view, widely spread in the highest spheres of the army, found support both in St. Petersburg and in Chancellor Rumyantsev, who, for other state reasons, also stood for peace.
The fifth were adherents of Barclay de Tolly, not so much as a person, but as a minister of war and commander in chief. They said: “Whatever he is (they always started like that), but he is an honest, efficient person, and there is no one better than him. Give him real power, because war cannot go on successfully without unity of command, and he will show what he can do, as he showed himself in Finland. If our army is organized and strong and retreated to Drissa without suffering any defeats, then we owe this only to Barclay. If now they replace Barclay with Bennigsen, then everything will perish, because Bennigsen had already shown his incapacity in 1807,” said the people of this party.
The sixth, the Bennigsenists, said, on the contrary, that after all there was no one more efficient and more experienced than Bennigsen, and no matter how you turn around, you will still come to him. And the people of this party argued that our entire retreat to Drissa was a shameful defeat and an uninterrupted series of mistakes. “The more mistakes they make,” they said, “the better: at least they will soon realize that this cannot go on. And what is needed is not some kind of Barclay, but a person like Benigsen, who already showed himself in 1807, to whom Napoleon himself gave justice, and such a person who would be willingly recognized as the authority - and such is only one Benigsen.
Seventh - there were faces that always exist, especially under young sovereigns, and who were especially numerous under Emperor Alexander - the faces of the generals and the adjutant wing, passionately devoted to the sovereign, not as an emperor, but as a person who adores him sincerely and disinterestedly, as he adored Rostov in 1805, and seeing in it not only all virtues, but also all human qualities. Although these persons admired the modesty of the sovereign, who refused to command the troops, they condemned this excessive modesty and wished only one thing and insisted that the adored sovereign, leaving excessive distrust of himself, openly announce that he was becoming the head of the army, would amount to the headquarters of the commander-in-chief and, consulting, where necessary, with experienced theoreticians and practitioners, he himself would lead his troops, whom this alone would bring to the highest state of inspiration.
The eighth, largest group of people, which, by its huge number, related to others as 99 to 1, consisted of people who did not want peace, or war, or offensive movements, or a defensive camp, either under Drissa or anywhere else. there was no Barclay, no sovereign, no Pfuel, no Benigsen, but they wanted only one thing, and the most essential: the greatest benefits and pleasures for themselves. In that muddy water of intersecting and entangled intrigues that swarmed at the sovereign's main apartment, it was possible to succeed in a great deal in such a way that would have been unthinkable at another time. One, not wanting only to lose his advantageous position, today agreed with Pfuel, tomorrow with his opponent, the day after tomorrow he claimed that he had no opinion on a well-known subject, only in order to avoid responsibility and please the sovereign. Another, wishing to acquire benefits, attracted the attention of the sovereign, loudly shouting the very thing that the sovereign hinted at the day before, arguing and shouting in council, hitting his chest and challenging those who disagreed to a duel and thereby showing that he was ready to be a victim of the common good. The third simply begged for himself, between two councils and in the absence of enemies, a lump sum for his faithful service, knowing that now there would be no time to refuse him. The fourth inadvertently caught the eye of the sovereign, burdened with work. The fifth, in order to achieve the long-desired goal - dinner with the sovereign, fiercely proved the rightness or wrongness of the newly expressed opinion and for this he cited more or less strong and fair evidence.
All the people of this party caught rubles, crosses, ranks, and in this catching they only followed the direction of the weather vane of royal mercy, and just noticed that the weather vane turned in one direction, how all this drone population of the army began to blow in the same direction, so that the sovereign the harder it was to turn it into another. In the midst of the uncertainty of the situation, in the presence of a threatening, serious danger, which gave everything a particularly disturbing character, amid this whirlwind of intrigues, vanities, clashes of different views and feelings, with the diversity of all these people, this eighth, largest party of people hired by personal interests, gave great confusion and confusion to the common cause. No matter what question was raised, and even a swarm of these drones, without having yet blown off the previous topic, flew over to a new one and, with its buzz, drowned out and obscured the sincere, arguing voices.
Of all these parties, at the very time that Prince Andrei arrived at the army, another ninth party gathered, and began to raise its voice. It was a party of old, sensible, state-experienced people who knew how, without sharing any of the contradictory opinions, to abstractly look at everything that was going on at the headquarters of the main apartment, and think over the means to get out of this uncertainty, indecision, confusion and weakness.
The people of this party said and thought that everything bad comes mainly from the presence of the sovereign with the military court at the army; that the indefinite, conditional, and wavering precariousness of relations, which is convenient at court, but harmful in the army, has been transferred to the army; that the sovereign needs to reign, and not to rule the army; that the only way out of this situation is the departure of the sovereign with his court from the army; that the mere presence of the sovereign paralyzes fifty thousand troops needed to ensure his personal safety; that the worst but independent commander-in-chief would be better than the best, but bound by the presence and power of the sovereign.
At the same time that Prince Andrei was living idle under Drissa, Shishkov, the secretary of state, who was one of the main representatives of this party, wrote a letter to the sovereign, which Balashev and Arakcheev agreed to sign. In this letter, using the permission given to him by the sovereign to discuss the general course of affairs, he respectfully and under the pretext of the need for the sovereign to inspire the people in the capital to war, suggested that the sovereign leave the army.
The sovereign's inspiration of the people and the appeal to him to defend the fatherland - that same (as far as it was produced by the personal presence of the sovereign in Moscow) inspiration of the people, which was the main reason for the triumph of Russia, was presented to the sovereign and accepted by him as a pretext for leaving the army.

X
This letter had not yet been submitted to the sovereign, when Barclay conveyed to Bolkonsky at dinner that the sovereign personally wanted to see Prince Andrei in order to ask him about Turkey, and that Prince Andrei had to appear at Benigsen's apartment at six o'clock in the evening.
On the same day, news was received in the sovereign's apartment about Napoleon's new movement, which could be dangerous for the army - news that later turned out to be unfair. And on the same morning, Colonel Michaud, driving around the Dris fortifications with the sovereign, proved to the sovereign that this fortified camp, arranged by Pfuel and considered until now the chef d "?uvr" of tactics, supposed to destroy Napoleon - that this camp is nonsense and death Russian army.
Prince Andrei arrived at the apartment of General Benigsen, who occupied a small landowner's house on the very bank of the river. Neither Bennigsen nor the sovereign was there, but Chernyshev, the sovereign's adjutant wing, received Bolkonsky and announced to him that the sovereign had gone with General Benigsen and with Marquis Pauluchi another time that day to bypass the fortifications of the Drissa camp, the convenience of which was beginning to be strongly doubted.
Chernyshev was sitting with a book of a French novel by the window of the first room. This room was probably formerly a hall; there was still an organ in it, on which some kind of carpets were piled, and in one corner stood the folding bed of adjutant Benigsen. This adjutant was here. He, apparently worn out by a feast or business, sat on a folded bed and dozed off. Two doors led from the hall: one directly into the former living room, the other to the right into the office. From the first door came voices speaking German and occasionally French. There, in the former living room, at the request of the sovereign, not a military council was gathered (the sovereign loved uncertainty), but some persons whose opinion about the upcoming difficulties he wanted to know. It was not a military council, but, as it were, a council of the elect to clarify certain issues personally for the sovereign. The following were invited to this half-council: the Swedish general Armfeld, adjutant general Wolzogen, Winzingerode, whom Napoleon called a fugitive French subject, Michaud, Tol, not a military man at all - Count Stein and, finally, Pfuel himself, who, as Prince Andrei heard, was la cheville ouvriere [the basis] of the whole business. Prince Andrei had the opportunity to examine him well, since Pfuel arrived shortly after him and went into the drawing room, stopping for a minute to talk with Chernyshev.
Pfuel at first glance, in his Russian general's badly tailored uniform, which sat awkwardly, as if dressed up, seemed familiar to Prince Andrei, although he had never seen him. It included Weyrother, and Mack, and Schmidt, and many other German theorists of generals, whom Prince Andrei managed to see in 1805; but he was more typical than all of them. Prince Andrey had never seen such a German theoretician, who united in himself everything that was in those Germans.
Pful was short, very thin, but broad-boned, coarse, healthy build, with a wide pelvis and bony shoulder blades. His face was very wrinkled, with deep-set eyes. His hair in front at the temples, obviously, was hastily smoothed with a brush, behind it naively stuck out tassels. He, looking around uneasily and angrily, entered the room, as if he were afraid of everything in the large room into which he had entered. Holding his sword with an awkward movement, he turned to Chernyshev, asking in German where the sovereign was. He evidently wanted to go through the rooms as soon as possible, complete the bows and salutations, and sit down to work in front of the map, where he felt himself in the right place. He hurriedly nodded his head at Chernyshev's words and smiled ironically, listening to his words that the sovereign was inspecting the fortifications that he, Pfuel himself, had laid according to his theory. He was bassist and cool, as self-confident Germans say, muttered to himself: Dummkopf ... or: zu Grunde die ganze Geschichte ... or: s "wird was gescheites d" raus werden ... [nonsense ... to hell with the whole thing ... (German) ] Prince Andrei did not hear and wanted to pass, but Chernyshev introduced Prince Andrei to Pful, noting that Prince Andrei had come from Turkey, where the war had ended so happily. Pfuel almost glanced not so much at Prince Andrei as through him, and said with a laugh: "Da muss ein schoner taktischcr Krieg gewesen sein." ["That must have been the correct tactical war." (German)] - And, laughing contemptuously, he went into the room from which voices were heard.
Evidently, Pfuel, who was always ready for ironic irritation, was especially agitated today by the fact that they dared to inspect his camp without him and judge him. Prince Andrei, from this one short meeting with Pfuel, thanks to his memories of Austerlitz, made up a clear characterization of this man. Pfuel was one of those hopelessly, invariably, to the point of martyrdom, self-confident people that only Germans are, and precisely because only Germans are self-confident on the basis of an abstract idea - science, that is, an imaginary knowledge of perfect truth. The Frenchman is self-confident because he considers himself personally, both in mind and in body, irresistibly charming to both men and women. An Englishman is self-confident on the grounds that he is a citizen of the most comfortable state in the world, and therefore, as an Englishman, he always knows what he needs to do, and knows that everything he does as an Englishman is undoubtedly good. The Italian is self-confident because he is agitated and easily forgets himself and others. The Russian is self-confident precisely because he knows nothing and does not want to know, because he does not believe that it is possible to fully know anything. The German is self-confident worse than anyone, and harder than everyone, and more repulsive than everyone, because he imagines that he knows the truth, a science that he himself invented, but which for him is absolute truth. Such, obviously, was Pfuel. He had a science - the theory of oblique movement, which he derived from the history of the wars of Frederick the Great, and everything that he met in recent history wars of Frederick the Great, and everything that he met in the latest military history, seemed to him nonsense, barbarism, an ugly clash in which so many mistakes were made on both sides that these wars could not be called wars: they did not fit the theory and could not serve as the subject of science.

The popularity rating of this capital show beat, beats and continues to beat all records. In our country, perhaps, there is no person who has not heard about the "Field of Miracles". This unique television project still attracts a huge audience like a magnet to the screen. Many are simply amazed at how many years the Field of Miracles has been keeping afloat, entering the top of the most rating shows. After all, a huge number of modern programs of the entertainment genre do not have even a small fraction of the popularity that the "people's" capital show has. And everything is very simple in it: shine with your intellect and get “fabulous prizes” for it. It’s just amazing how many years the “Field of Miracles” has been making a person a little happier. And today, many want to participate in the program and spin the drum with their own hands. What is the secret of the success of this project, which is so fond of the Russian audience? Let's consider this question in more detail.

Historical reference

The first issue of the capital show was released back in 1990. Its authors were the well-known journalist Vlad Listyev and the ex-general director of the ORT television channel Anatoly Lysenko.

Initially, it was assumed that this would be an analogue of the American project "Wheel of Fortune". When the creators were on one of their business trips abroad, they accidentally watched this entertainment program. Soon they were already discussing the idea of a Russian version of the Wheel of Fortune. Neither could imagine how many years the "Field of Miracles" will cause smiles and give joy ordinary people. Absolutely everyone plays it: teachers, doctors, milkmaids, tractor drivers, firefighters, policemen and others. There are no territorial boundaries for the project: the participants of the program were people living in the most different corners countries.

The leader is the key to the success of the program

The game "Field of Miracles" has largely become popular thanks to a well-chosen host. Initially, he was the creator of the capital show - Vlad Listyev. However, after some time, the journalist had other television projects, and there was less and less time on the "Field of Miracles". As a result, it was decided to appoint someone else to the role of host.

After several unsuccessful trials, Listyev opted for a candidate. First, the "auctioneer" took time to think, and then agreed. Of course, the first programs he felt, in his own words, not quite at ease, but then he got used to his role so much that it became clear to the viewer: the game "Field of Miracles" and Leonid Yakubovich are inseparable concepts. Yes, and Vlad Listyev himself was well aware that one of the components of the success of a television capital show is a charismatic presenter, who was Leonid Arkadyevich.
