How to learn to draw a sketch of clothes for beginners. How to Draw Fashion Sketches

In the world of fashion, the design of new models, before they are cut and sewn, is presented in the form of hand-drawn sketches. First you make a sketch - a figure in the form of a model, which serves as the basis of the drawing. The point is not to draw a realistic figure, you are like sketching out a canvas on which you will "try on" various illustrations of dresses, skirts, blouses, accessories, or whatever you decide to create. Adding details like ruffles, seams and buttons will help bring your ideas to life.

Steps

Part 1

Let's start sketching

Gather materials. Select hard pencil(preferably marked T) to make light, contour strokes that will be easy to erase. Such strokes or notes will not be pressed into the paper and leave marks on it, which is convenient if you later want to paint over the drawing. It is also important to choose heavy paper and a good eraser if you want your drawing to look professional.

    • If you do not have the right type of pencil with you, you can sketch with a pencil marked TM (hard soft). Just do not forget that you can not press, the strokes should be very light.
    • We do not recommend using a pen for drawing, because it will be impossible to erase extra lines later.
    • You will also need colored markers, ink, or paint to color the model.
  1. Decide which pose to choose for the design sketch. Sketches should be drawn in such a way that the silhouette with the clothes drawn on it (we will call it the "model") shows it in the most favorable light. You can draw the model walking, sitting, stooping, or any other angle. As a beginner, you can start with the most common pose - draw a model standing or walking down the runway. These poses are the easiest to draw and will allow you to show your clothing design in full.

    • Since you want to showcase your designs in a professional and attractive way, it's important that the sketches are proportionate and well-drawn.
    • To improve the skills of drawing any pose, many fashion designers practice for a long time and make hundreds of sketches.
  2. Consider alternative ways creating a sketch. It's good if you can draw your own sketch as it will allow you to demonstrate new model clothes just the way you want. However, if you want to learn how to draw fashion design right away, there are some quick ways:

    • Download a ready-made sketch of a model from the Internet, there you can find many shapes and positions of such models. For example, you can upload a sketch of a child, a man, a frail woman, and so on.
    • Make a sketch - outline the contours of the model from a magazine or some other picture. Just place the tracing paper on top of the model you like and outline its outline.

    Part 2

    Drawing a working sketch
    1. Draw a balance line. This is the very first line in your drawing and will serve as the center of gravity for your model. Run it from the top of the head to the tips of the toes, along the model's spine. Now draw an oval to represent the head. This is the basis of the working model, and now you can draw a proportional drawing. Imagine that the sketch you made is the "skeleton" of the model.

      • The balance line must be strictly vertical, even if the model itself is drawn with an inclination. For example, if you want to draw a model leaning slightly to the left, with hands on hips, draw a straight line of balance across the center of the sheet. Extend a line from the model's head to the surface she is standing on.
      • Please note that when you are designing clothes, you don't need a proportional model, because you are demonstrating clothes, not your drawing skills. human figure. No need to draw everything to the smallest detail, including the face of the model.
    2. First draw the pelvic area. Draw an equilateral square on the balance line, just below the middle, where the person's pelvis is. Draw the size of the square according to the size you need. For slender models, a small square is required, for larger models, a larger square.

      • Considering the pose chosen for the model, tilt the square to the left or right. For example, if you want the model's hips to move to the left, bevel the square a little bit to the left. If you want to keep the model standing up straight, just draw a square without tilting it anywhere.
    3. Sketch out the neck and head. The neck of the model should be one third of the width of the shoulders and half the length of the head. When you finish drawing the neck, sketch out the head, it should be proportional to the body. The bigger the head, the younger the model looks.

      • You can erase that oval that you drew at the very beginning for the image of the head.
      • Draw the head so that it looks proportionate and natural to the pose you have chosen. You can tilt it slightly up or down, right or left.
    4. Draw the legs. The legs are the longest part of the body, about four heads long. The legs are divided into two parts: the thigh (from the bottom of the pelvic square to the knee) and the calf (from the knee to the ankle). Remember that designers usually increase the height of the model, for this they draw the legs longer than the torso.

      • The top of each thigh should be about the same width as the head. Taper the width of each leg from hip to knee. When you reach the knee, the leg should be one-third as wide as the widest part of the thigh.
      • To draw the calves, narrow the lines towards the ankles. The ankle should be one-fourth the width of the head.
    5. Draw the feet and hands. The feet are relatively narrow. Draw them as elongated triangles about the same length as the head. The arms are drawn in the same way as the legs, they need to be narrowed towards the wrists. Make them slightly longer in relation to the torso than the arms. real person, so the model will make a stylized impression. And finally, draw the fingers.

    Part 3

    Draw clothes and accessories

Now illustrate your design. Think about what exactly you want to create, what kind of view, and draw it to the smallest details. If you are designing a dress, draw a pattern, ruffles or bows on the fabric to make the thing beautiful. Focus on unique design elements, add the necessary accessories so that the style you create is clear. If you need some fresh ideas, or don't know where to start, look up fashion trends online or in magazines for inspiration.

Draw clothes with confident strokes. Since the purpose of a design sketch is to present your design ideas in the best possible light, your drawings should look full and bold. Clothing should look like on the model real life. Draw folds and bends at the elbows and at the waist, at the shoulders, ankles and at the wrists. Relive the thoughts of how clothes fit a living person in your memory, and transfer the memories to your model.

Learn to draw folds, wrinkles and creases. Use different types of lines to create different folds in the fabric in the drawing. Knowing how to draw folds, wrinkles, and folds will help you show the structure of your clothes.

      • Folds can be depicted with free, wavy lines.
      • Circular patterns will help depict wrinkles.
      • Highlight straight edges to show pleated folds.
    1. Draw patterns. If your design includes patterned fabrics, it is important to accurately demonstrate how they will look on the model. Start by drawing the outline of patterned clothing, such as a skirt or blouse. Divide it with a grid with individual cells. Fill in the cells with the pattern, one by one.

      • Pay attention to how folds, undercuts and wrinkles change the look of the pattern. It may need to be bent or removed from certain areas to make everything look neat and precise.
      • Take your time, draw the pattern in detail and make sure it looks the same throughout the mesh.
    2. Finish the drawing - add shadows, paint and shade. Use thick black paint to draw the lines you want to leave on the drawing. Now you can erase the lines that you used to draw the shape of the body and the marks that you made with a pencil. Carefully paint over the clothes in the colors and tones that you have in mind.

      • Clothes can be painted over with markers, ink or paints. Mix colors and use a wide variety of shades to showcase your design ideas.
      • As you work on shading and texture, imagine the model in your clothes walking towards you under the spotlights on the runway. Deep folds in the fabric will result in darker shades of the color you are using. And where the fabric is lit with bright light, the colors will appear lighter.
      • Add hair, sunglasses and makeup. These are the final touches, and they will breathe life into your design sketch.
    3. Consider making a "flat" drawing. In addition to a fashion sketch, you can draw a sketchy one. A flat drawing is a kind of explanation for your design. In such a drawing, the non-relief outlines of clothes are depicted, as if they were laid out on a flat surface. Such a drawing will help to see how the clothes will look in a flat form, and not just on the model.

    • You don't need to draw the face in detail, unless your design involves some specific makeup that should match the clothes.
    • Some people like to draw especially skinny models. Draw realistic models that will help you later - when it's time to choose and sew clothes.
    • It is often easier not to draw facial features, just a couple of lines are enough to depict the hair. Evaluate, in the end, will not be a person, but an outfit.
    • Put the piece of fabric you want to use in your clothing next to it, so it will be easier for you to draw.
    • To draw the texture of the fabric, you need to have some experience, because it is quite difficult.

Step 1

First you need to determine what you are going to draw and here I can hardly help you. best advice- look around for inspiration. Check out the galleries on DeviantArt.com, you don't need to draw, but you might find some cool compositions that will give you an idea.

In this case, I already knew that I wanted to draw a girl in a ring of fire, since my heroine has pyrokinesis!

Therefore, the first thing I did was sketch out a rough sketch the way I saw this drawing. If you look at my little squiggles, you can see that I kind of drew a figure in a ring of fire and added the direction of the look, and also indicated where the light would fall from.

This is the so-called small sketch. It's really easy and I'm sure you can handle it. It doesn't matter to me how old you are: 6 or 76. It's not difficult.

(You can even draw this by holding a pencil with your toes)

Step 2

URA I DRAWED THE HEAD. Seriously, it's not hard at all. Just draw a shape resembling a circle or an oval in shape. "Grid" helps me with face orientation. Horizontal line- this is the line of the eyes and it should be located approximately in the center of the head. The vertical line is the middle of the face (here is the nose!). Drawing at this stage does not require you to be exceptionally talented.

If you want to turn your head in a different direction, just move the grid. (Example shown in red).

At this stage, the drawing starts to look rather strange. To start off, I sketched in some circles that indicate where the shoulders should be. Depending on your drawing style, you may want to place them further away from your head. If you look straight ahead, then they should be at a distance equal to the width of one head to the left and right of the head, but since the body of my heroine will be slightly rotated, this distance will also be somewhat shorter in the figure.

The triangle below the chin defines the neck area. In most cases, the "fossa" or depression in the neck is approximately half the length of the head, or 3/4. (It all depends on how long the neck will be). Pay attention to the fact that the muscles of the neck are approximately equal in width to the width of the head, and closer to the hollow they are pointed. This is because there are two tendons here that allow you to turn your head in different directions. In most cases, these tendons show through the skin (they are especially noticeable when you turn your head), and you need to at least partially draw them.

Step 4

Nothing special at this stage. I added a transverse line to the shoulders and the bottom of the "hollow" in order to indicate the location of the collarbone. I also added lines that go straight from the jawline to the collarbone. This external form neck. -_- My shape is funny curved depending on the position my character will be in. Don't try to get everything right while sketching. Most of the drawing will eventually change, so don't mind if some lines are left unfinished. The most important thing you have to learn as an artist is the ability to silence the critic's inner voice. It's the part of your brain that looks at the drawing and says "What the hell...arrrr! YOU HAVE TO FIX THESE LINES" Don't listen to him. Eat cookies and click on the "ignore" button.

Step 5

BREAST. Sorry, I just needed to voice it. First, I added a chest line. I usually draw the chest above its normal anatomical position. But don't repeat after me. Or if you want to do the same as me, then do it, but remember that this is wrong. We all have our quirks :) To be anatomically correct, the nipples should be spaced apart equal to the length one head from the chin. The line that I drew is perfect for the line of the nipples. But I will not follow the anatomical rules and this line will not be one. It's just the way I use it, deal with it. ^^

Step 6

What is that line I just drew? This is the middle line of the body. My character's body has a slightly curved shape, so the midline of the body is also curved. To be anatomically accurate, the line of the belly (the first one after the line of the chest) should be about one head long from the nipples, and this last little line (groin line) should be one head long from the navel. However, I draw my character according to perspective, since her body is curved towards the background (her head is closer to us than her legs), so in my drawing the lines are short.

Step 7

Now we sketch out the chest. It doesn't have to be perfect, but note that the bottom of the chest is closer to the bottom of the chest than the shoulders. Also, do not forget that the chest is pointed towards the bottom, that is, in the navel area it will be (slightly) narrower than in the shoulder area. The chest is drawn in the same place as the shoulders. Many young artists first they draw the chest, and then they try to draw the stomach in such a way that it reaches the bottom of the chest - and as a result, the chest simply disappears. Don't do it.

Step 8

You probably ask why I drew a ball. "Well, that ball is her belly!" In general, the abdomen should be only slightly narrower than the chest. I found that a rough sketch in the form of a ball allows you to maintain the correct proportions. (Especially for such a strange pose). Without it, I would most likely squeeze her waist too tight and it would look like she was wearing a corset. One that makes the waist very very narrow, about 10 cm. Phew.

Step 9

These are her thighs. hips act as a kind of storage for storage internal organs, which prevents them from having these organs hanging somewhere around the knees. The groin in the anatomical sense is just the lowest point of this "vault", and the hips are slightly narrower than it. In general, in very thin people, you can see how the pelvic bones stick out from under the skin.

The "ball" of the abdomen should fit snugly against the "storage". Keep in mind that in men the width of the hips is approximately equal to the width of the chest, while in women the hips are slightly wider (but narrower than the width of the shoulders). Many artists say that the hips should be the same width as the shoulders, and since they are almost right you don't have to take this as a fact, because the shoulders change with muscle mass.

Women have slightly wider hips than men because their pelvic bones are wider (and more rounded), allowing them to carry and give birth to children. It gives them such a cute roundness)

Step 10

Here you can already notice that I started sketching the arms and legs. Since the knees of my heroine will meet at one point, I cut off some lines and connected them around the knees. I know she looks like a Robot Duck. (Does anyone remember him? look it up on the Internet).

Elbows should:
a) touch the chest
And
b) reach the top of the head (or be slightly lower).

In this case, the angles of the arms are slightly different, so one of the elbows is slightly lower than the other.

The forearms are generally the same size as the upper arms from the bottom of the shoulder blade to the elbow (only for the forearm, this is the distance from the elbow to the wrist). If her hands were lowered down, then her wrists would be on the same level with her groin.
The size of the thigh bones (the distance from the groin to the knees) is approximately 1.5 times the length of the head (although here I have drawn them connected to the pelvic bones). Once again I remind you that mine are shorter because of the perspective.

Note: I don't use perfectly straight lines.

Step 11

I draw a sketch of the thigh bones. Notice how the hips taper towards the knees and groin as opposed to the mid-thigh. They protrude slightly in the middle. If you draw them the same width, they will look very, very strange.

Although this drawing doesn't show it very clearly, keep in mind that in normal or lean characters, the pelvic bone will stick out a little more than the stomach or thigh and will form a small "bump" on the curve of the pelvic bone.

Click on the image to view the image in full size and 100% quality.

Step 12

Nothing special at this stage. I finished the chest and drew out the arms a little.

Step 13

I sketched out the hair. When drawing hair, you need to remember that you do not need to draw it perfectly. Hair flutters and tends to tangle into strands (strands, not groups). Therefore, when drawing hair, try to apply strokes as lightly as possible, randomly. They just have to lie in the same direction - don't worry about the details or the exact placement of the lines. If you draw lines at this stage, your hair will look very stiff, as if someone covered it with rubber glue. Trust me - in the end, shreds and strands will take desired shape, you don't need to pay so much attention to it.

Clothing is an important element of our life. Indeed, in a cultural society it is not customary to walk with an uncovered body. For this, there are different types some kind of clothing. Clothing has been around since the dawn of mankind. Ancient people covered their bodies with animal skins and bird feathers. With the development of spinning and weaving, fabric appeared, from which simple shirts, trousers, and dresses were already sewn. They were unadorned, but very practical and comfortable.

As the human society clothes, especially for the rich, were decorated with stones, gold, silver. And for the poor, it remained just as simple. Times have changed, people have changed, clothes have changed. Now in modern world many people wear simple, comfortable functional clothes on weekdays, and for evening events or holidays dress in smarter and prettier clothes.

Women are very fond of dresses and skirts, men are suits, and both sexes are happy to wear very comfortable jeans. We draw several items of clothing in stages in this lesson.

Stage 1. Long dress. Draw two lines - the borders of our dress. One is more even, the other is with a curve that marks the waist. We outline the contours of the dress along these lines. This is a neckline, two straps on the shoulders, a waist line, hips and the hem of the dress. Then we add straps at the back and make a cutout at the bottom on the side. All over the dress we draw waves showing the drapery. We make several such lines. We color the dress, not forgetting about the overflows of color.

Stage 2. Women's trousers. We make two lines on the sides and one stroke on top. At the top we designate a circle - a waist. From it we draw the sides of the trousers: hips, below we form the line of the knees and flare the trousers downwards. We show the folds at the bottom. Let's add wavy lines along the fabric, which will then indicate to us the light and shadow areas on the fabric. Beautifully drawn beautiful women's trousers turned out.

Stage 3. Coat. We draw two perpendicular straight lines, on top of another straight line. And on the sides there are two lines from the shoulders to the waist and from the waist to the hips. So we limited the contours of our drawing. then draw one side (side) of the coat. Then the other side. We make a collar. We draw sleeves. Below the fastener we show the lapel of the hem. Outline all the lines of the drawing well and color it in the end.

Stage 4. Jacket. Draw one vertical line in the middle and cross it with two straight lines, from which we will make one more line of sleeves. You also need to show two features - the width of the jacket. We begin to draw the sides of the jacket (sides). We observe naturalness in the show and draw folds on the fabric. Show the collar and two sleeves.

Stage 5. Jacket. (Continuation). Let's make a collar and a fastener. Then draw the sides (sides) and sleeves from the shoulders to the bottom. Let's shade some places on the jacket. Then we color everything.

Stage 6. Boots. Draw one straight line and one jagged line. We draw the upper part of the top of the boot with a dash, from it we lead the front and back sides of the top and make the transition to the heel. Then we draw a forward part - noses. We shade. Coloring.

For example, someone is thinking about sewing things on their own, another wants to learn how to design outfits. One way or another, it must be taken into account that the human body is not flat, so clothes should not be flat either. To make the drawing look beautiful, you need to depict on it all possible folds, details, and the like.

Materials used

If you need to learn how to draw clothes, then first you need to choose the right materials that will help with this. The drawing pencil must be hard. In this case, the strokes made will be easily wiped off with an eraser. In addition, the pencil will not leave any marks, which is great for those who want to paint over their sketch further. It is also recommended to choose high-density paper and a quality eraser. This will make the drawing much more beautiful and interesting.

Sketch Pose

If you are interested in how to draw clothes with a pencil, then you need to understand that you may not get a high-quality picture the first time. It is very important that the sketch with the drawn clothes look as natural as possible. Therefore, you should correctly choose the pose of the depicted silhouette. A walking, sitting or bending model will look good. If you still don't know how to draw clothes, then you can start with the simplest pose - the model is standing. You also need to consider that the sketches must be made proportionally. That is, it is necessary to take into account all the features of the human body. Professional fashion designers do hundreds of sketches before making the final sketch. This gives them the opportunity to practice and get their hands on it.

sketch drawing

If there is a desire to learn how to draw clothes, then you need to consider that you need to start with the image of the edge. This is the edge of the garment that comes into contact with the skin. He usually repeats the seams. Most often, the hem is found on the collar, sleeves, waist of shorts and so on. It is important to consider that it cannot be depicted as a straight line. After all, it circles the body in a circle, which means that the edge should be voluminous and rounded, like all parts of the human body.

Where the line representing the edge will go depends on the direction of the body part that it should wrap around. In general, before drawing clothes, you need to learn to see the shape of the body in your imagination. For example, a leg can be represented as a cylinder. The hem line on the legs should look more pronounced than on the stomach.

Drawing a sketch takes place in several main stages:

clothes drawing

Now you can move on to drawing clothes. First you need to decide what exactly you want to depict in the picture. The image should be thought out to the smallest detail. Strokes should be confident and smooth. It is important that all the curves of the human body are depicted. Otherwise, the picture will be unnatural. That is, you should draw all the folds, wrinkles and bends. After the creation is completed a holistic image you can move on to drawing patterns. It is better to make the drawing in color, but also black and white picture will also look good.

Thus, learning to draw clothes is quite real. The main thing is to be patient and self-confident. You can draw whatever you want.

Fashion - "lady" is changeable and very fickle. Nevertheless, she often returns to long-forgotten styles and, adding a fresh idea, creates unique things. Many women strive to follow all the laws of fashion and keep abreast of clothing design developments in order to be at the forefront of fashionistas.

Sense of style

Here's what you can say about fashion, according to the famous Coco Chanel: this is the one that suits you. As a rule, every woman knows her style since early years, selects things, taking into account his figure, facial features, eye and hair colors. It may seem to many that such subtleties are unnecessary, but each individual touch in a person’s appearance, correctly and favorably emphasized with the help of clothes, can turn him into a beautiful and “stylish” person.

Of course, every woman does not want to be like the others, she prefers to have her own zest in appearance. come up with different ways on the selection of individual hairstyles, makeup, clothes. We will focus on clothing. It is so customary in our country that almost all of our women can sew their own outfits. If not, then having your own sketches of invented models, you can safely contact a tailoring studio. In any case, the woman will be directly involved in the creation of her things.

The first stage in the creation of clothes

We are accustomed to children New Year to create costumes on our own, while we first draw a sketch of clothes, and then we cut them out. The same should be done when creating your own things. New ideas for making a skirt, or maybe a suit, are constantly born in my head. And when you manage to make your first successful thing, a feeling of euphoria fills you, you want to create again and again, create your own collection of clothes.

Learning to draw a person

To get started, you will need to master a small drawing technique. You need to learn how to draw a person specifically for your sketches, so that the invented models of clothes look good, and every detail that creates the individual style of the model is visible. Even if at school it was hard for you to draw little men, it's okay, we will draw a little differently.

The first thing you need is to draw a silhouette of a person, calculate the proportions in the size of the torso and legs. The generally accepted human relative to his head is an average of 7.5:1. But in the drawing of a sketch of clothes, in order to make the invented model look more interesting, the legs are lengthened by one unit, respectively 8.5: 1. But do not overdo it in the length of the legs, otherwise the whole picture will be distorted.

To make your clothing sketch look more understandable and meet all the requirements of the model drawing, draw the joints in circles in the silhouette of a person. They will look like a hinge on the folds. And then connect them with thin lines, the chest should look like an inverted trapezoid, and the head should look like an oval. So we got a person on whom you can try on your ideas.

Create a sketch of clothes

Now it's time to draw general contour conceived clothing. When a general outline of clothing has appeared around the little man, you can use a pencil and an eraser to achieve detailing of the model and additions to clothing. Do not forget to mark the cut of this item. A sketch of clothes is necessary in order to most correctly be able to select all the stylistic details of your collection, in the drawing you can always correct any error and calculate all the subtleties of the cut.

Decide how long the dress or skirt will be, outline the necklines or collars. And then draw as if you are dressing a person. If you plan to create a costume, then start drawing a blouse, then trousers or a skirt, and put on a jacket on top. Draw those details of things that are visible from under the suit. Naturally, underwear In this case, you don't need to draw. If you need to indicate the place of the seam, mark it with a solid line, and draw a zipper with a dotted line. Complete the sketch with details that will be part of your model - these are pockets, decorative overlays or zippers, jewelry.

Find out all the properties of your chosen fabric

Now you can experience firsthand the importance of sketching when creating clothing collections. How to draw a sketch of clothes, you already know. It remains to delve a little into the subtleties of the properties of the fabric and its drapery. Take a closer look at how the fabric of your choice lays down, what kind of folds are obtained, how it wrinkles when walking or sitting, how it behaves when strong wind or when wet. Try to mark some of these points on your sketch. Then you will not find a more realistic image of the conceived model anywhere. When cutting the fabric, you will already know exactly all the nuances in the behavior of the fabric when sewing and wearing things.

Take fashion magazines as helpers

If you don't quite understand how to sketch clothes, try copying the ones you already have from a fashion magazine first, and then just add your own details as you see fit. After several modifications famous models it will not be difficult for you to independently draw and invent your own collections of clothes.

Work of experienced designers

Have you ever wondered how famous designers create their famous collections? Of course, all models are not born in their heads at once. Each idea is hatched for more than one day, all notes regarding improvement are recorded in a notebook.

A whole company is working to help designers, responsible for certain moments in the creation of the collection. Sketching clothes - this is just the first step in the designer's work. Then his assistants are connected, because for a full-fledged collection it is necessary to achieve a general stylization of things, while maintaining the individuality and peculiarity of each model.

If you are going to design a collection of clothes for yourself, listen to the advice of experienced designers. It's clear they won't tell you , how to learn to draw clothing sketches, but basic organizational issues in creating details of a model of a certain style, they can tell.

For example, it is recommended to immediately decide on the collection line or theme. To do this, when developing individual elements of clothing, choosing a color and type of fabric, one should immediately give the names of the future collection to the sketches of drawings with any adjectives. It can be "delicate collection" or "creative models", "feminine or soft clothes" and so on, do not limit your imagination.

Then it will be easier to put together all your thoughts on paper, connect and highlight generalizing points, while removing excesses and repetitions. Thus, it is possible to achieve a certain focus in style and subject matter.

The joy of creating your own models

Be sure to heed these tips, and you can reach a new level of creating individual things for yourself. You already know how to draw sketches of clothing models, of course, you will not have assistants, but this will give a special personality to your clothes. It will be only yours, because it was in your head that the idea of \u200b\u200bcreation was born, you drew a sketch, cut the model into fabrics and sewed the outfit with your own hands. These things are completely imbued with your energy, the love with which they were created. They will not only improve mood, but attract the views of others, bring good luck and delight every day.
