The role of literature in modern society

(Kazachenko Julia, 3rd year student of specialization

choreographic work)

Literature in society has always occupied a large place and had specific tasks and certain functions. First of all, aesthetic and informational. Literature could be for society, as best friend, and the most severe critic. But of course, literature has always been a reflection of public life and was one of the engines of the cultural process.

On different stages of its development, mankind reflected on the role of literature in society. As life changes, people change too. The process of self-expression captures everything, turning a person into a slave of his time, where everything is bought and sold. Real society is divided into rich and poor, successful and unsuccessful. More often speaking about certain achievements of the democratic rights of freedoms, we forget about the decline in morals. And it is literature that is the main foundation of any society, the bearer of new ideas and spiritual saturation: in works of art experienced by the country appears in its entirety.

Literature is capable of very seriously influencing its reader. Experts have already scientifically proven that fiction is able to significantly influence the mass consciousness, create guidelines for the development of people. And if literature really teaches the beautiful, teaches to recognize good and evil, representing the essence of thoughts and reflections the best minds humanity, today it seems to be one of the most effective means who can make this world a better, kinder place. M. Gorky also wrote: The purpose of literature is to help a person understand himself, raise his faith in himself and develop in him a desire for truth, fight vulgarity in people, be able to find good in them, arouse shame, anger, courage in their souls, do everything so that people become nobly strong and can spiritualize their lives with the holy spirit of beauty.

Modern literature is an extremely ambiguous phenomenon. On the one hand, literature and authors have become more liberated, no longer limited either by censorship or by any kind of framework or canon, as was the case for many centuries in previous years. On the other hand, precisely due to the fact that literature is not limited by anything and no one, today on the market you can see hundreds of titles of works that not only have no artistic value, but also negatively affect modern readers, the formation of their artistic taste and for the whole literary process All in all.

The modern reader has also changed. As a rule, this is a person of middle or old age, to whom reading was instilled during Soviet Union(when education also did not differ in a particular focus on the development of the individual, but raised the gray mass). Although new Age information technologies gave people unlimited access to the best libraries peace, the ability to read e-books and to be aware of everything that the modern literary process lives on, people have practically stopped reading books.

Modern schoolchildren and students, for the most part, do not read at all, managing successfully and without prejudice to academic performance to skip even publications, familiarization with which involves training course. And this affects not only general literacy modern young people, but also on their worldview, value orientations, morality.

Reflecting on the meaning of literature in modern world, we turn to the Nobel lecture by A.I. Solzhenitsyn, uttered at the award ceremony, a few years after he was awarded the prize. In his speech, he names the important functions of literature: 1. Literature creates a single frame of reference for atrocities and good deeds, for the intolerant and the tolerant; 2. Enables a person to assimilate someone else's life experience as own; 3. To pass it on from generation to generation, that is, to be a living memory of the nation. Much of what A. Solzhenitsyn said and wrote is now perceived as a prophecy. His statements about the meaning of the writer's word in the modern world, which were made more than 30 years ago, have not lost their relevance.

He notes such a feature of world literature as unity: I think that world literature can do it in these alarm clock humanity to help him to know himself correctly, contrary to what is suggested by biased people and parties; to transfer the condensed experience of one region to another, so that it would cease to double and ripple in our eyes, the divisions of the scales would be combined, and some peoples would recognize correctly and concisely true story others with that power of recognition and pain, as if they had experienced it themselves - and thus they would have been protected from belated cruel mistakes. And at the same time, we ourselves, perhaps, will be able to develop world vision in ourselves: with the center of the eye, like every person, seeing what is close, with the corners of the eye we will begin to take in what is happening in the rest of the world. And we will correlate and observe world proportions. He calls the writer a spokesman national language, the main bond of the nation. In his opinion, literature can help the world in its red-hot hour.

Literature contributes to the upbringing and development of new generations, helps to open up new horizons for human improvement, leaving its own noticeable mark on future generations. From modern literature required A New Look for everyday things. No matter how a person changes, and no matter how time looks at life, Eternal values remain unchanged. He lives, enjoys life as long as he feels solid ground under his feet. But as soon as this ground is shaken, a person opens the pages of revelation. And, of course, the best guide in the search for truth has always been and remains a huge layer cultural heritage bearing the experience of many generations.

Literature has a particularly great influence on the younger generation. Therefore, literary education is one of the external factors, capable of influencing what kind of person will grow up, what character traits he will have.

From childhood, we are accompanied by various literary works: fairy tales, riddles, stories, poems, novels, plays, and so on. All of them play a huge role in the development of man. Also in early age Literary works lay in us the basic moral principles and norms. Fairy tales, riddles, parables and jokes teach us to value friendship, to do good, not to offend the weak, to respect parents, to think about our actions. All this is stated in plain language for children with a language, so they quickly and easily remember it. That is why the role of literature and books, in general, in human life is enormous. They not only participate in the formation of a person, but constitute the main part of the moral education of each of us.

During the study school literature, we not only get to know new authors, new works, new trends, but also get closer to literature so much that it becomes an integral part of us. The famous teacher V.P. Ostrogorsky said: “A properly and widely educated general aesthetic mood elevates and ennobles a person through the noblest pleasure, which becomes a need. It makes all life attractive and interesting for him, discovering in it, in nature, in man, a wonderful existence, which he had never suspected before ... Thus, this feeling, suppressing egoism in us, takes us out of the daily circle of everyday life, into that at the same time, awakening to bring thought and goodness into this everyday life, it leads you into wide communication with nature, society, homeland, humanity ... All this, taken together, i.e. all these aesthetic relationships to oneself, nature, people, art, society, and creates in a person a special spiritual world with oneself, now a good mood, now unity with the world, now a constant striving for spiritual beauty, for the service of the common good, for honest work and the fight against evil - in a word, that which alone has constituted human happiness at all times.
In my opinion, these words very deeply and vividly reflect the role of literature and art, in general, in human life. Books teach us to love others and give us real human happiness. That is why people who read books and lovers of literature, can feel all the delights of the world around us: to see the beauty of nature, to love and be loved. In addition, thanks to literature, our lexicon and the spiritual world is enriched.
Based on the foregoing, we can conclude that literature is very important in human life: it affects our worldview. Shapes our inner world enriches our speech. That is why we should read as much as possible, love and respect the book, because without it our world will be gray and empty.

Literature is a huge repository of spiritual and moral values.

It would seem that each of us has long been familiar with the concept of "literature". But how polysyllabic and polysemantic literature is, we sometimes do not even think about it. But literature is a grandiose phenomenon, it was created by the genius of man, is the fruit of his mind.

What is the role and significance of literature in human life?

Literature is a means of knowing the world, it helps us understand “what is good and what is bad”, points to the origins of universal human conflicts.

Literature helps us see inner beauty human, learn to understand and appreciate it.

Literature is a powerful source of education of the spirit and personality. Through the disclosure of artistic images, literature gives us the concepts of good and evil, truth and falsehood, truth and lies. No arguments, the most eloquent, no arguments, the most convincing, can have such an impact on the mind of a person as a truthfully drawn image. And this is the strength and significance of literature.

There is a lot in the literature important concept- "text". Correct text processing the best craftsmen words, writers is of great importance. It broadens the horizons of a person, accustoms to thoughtful reading, to understanding those ideas that the author expresses through images. Competent work on the text enriches the vocabulary of a person, develops the ability to master literary language and various artistic techniques.

Literature is a powerful weapon that can heal.

Literature shows us the ways of self-improvement.

Say a word about Russian literature. Among the merits of Russian literature there is one, perhaps the most valuable. This is her constant desire to sow "reasonable, good, eternal", her persistent impulse to light and truth. Russian literature has never been confined to purely artistic interests. Its creators have always been not only artists who describe phenomena and events, but also teachers of life, defenders of the “humiliated and offended”, fighters against cruelty and injustice, adherents of truth and faith.

Russian literature is extremely rich in both positive and negative images. Watching them, the reader has the opportunity to experience the whole gamut of feelings - from indignation and disgust for everything low, rude, deceitful, to deep admiration, admiration for the truly noble, courageous, honest.

Literature blurs the boundaries of time. She acquaints us with the spirit of a particular era, with the life of a particular social environment - from Tsar Nikolai to the teacher of the gymnasium Belikov, from the landowner Shabby to the poor peasant woman - the mother of a soldier.

The disclosure of artistic images is main part literary reading, its basis. Any artistic image, as you know, is at the same time a reflection of reality and expressions of the ideology of the writer. It’s not enough just to read a literary work. We must try to penetrate the secrets of the idea, to know the background of the creation of the work.

Literature develops the mind and feelings. She is our teacher, mentor, guide. Guide to the world of the real and the unreal. The ability to express ideas in words is distinguishing feature person. Words are a mirror that clearly reflects the degree spiritual development. Everything that enters our soul from the outside is imprinted in our feelings, thoughts, and in the very way they are expressed.

In the works of one writer, we find laughing pictures, picturesque images: this is because his spirit was brought up in the bosom of nature, where she scatters her gifts with a generous hand.

Another sings on the lyre of his battles and battles, horrors, sad phenomena of a suffering life: this is because the soul of the creator knew many groans.

In the works of the third, human nature appears in the most miserable contradiction with the idea of beauty: because, on the one hand, evil, eternally at war with good, on the other hand, disbelief in the high purpose of man, hardened the owner of the pen.

Literature is multifaceted, its creators are very different. Literature grew up along with Pushkin and Lermontov, Gogol and Chekhov, Blok and Akhmatova. It is still developing. Her ideas continue to live and fight on our planet, they help rid the world of filth, cruelty, insignificance.

Twenty first century. The age of computers, interactive systems and virtual reality. Do modern people need books? My answer is yes. Every person needs books, because in the cycle of modern life we worry about school, work, whether our phone is charged, and completely forget about our soul, which also needs solitude and recharging. Books are a one of a kind spiritual healer that can heal our spirit as well as positive emotions. A person grows both intellectually and morally by reading. For me, each book I read is a life lived, after which I gain experience and become wiser. Some simply do not understand the value of literature and everything in it. While reading, I learned to understand human nature, what is hidden in it, the motivation of certain actions of people. And most importantly, I learned not to judge people without knowing their stories.

You can't judge a book by its cover. Books are the same people, and, as the Strugatsky brothers wrote, among them are “kind and honest, wise, knowing a lot, as well as frivolous empty shells, skeptics, lunatics, murderers, children, dull preachers, self-satisfied fools and half-hoarse screamers with sore eyes ". As for me, literature is my everything: mentor, friend, hobby. She taught me only good and bright things, opened my eyes to many things, taught me to love the word, according to Mayakovsky, "the commander of human strength."

Literature is an art, and like any art, it has its own names that made it famous. In my own way, I respect every writer who has contributed to the development of literature, but I especially highlight a few names and works from everything I have read so far. Yes, my love psychological novels grew into a love for the works of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky. With full confidence I can call him our contemporary, unlike some other classics, because everything he wrote is relevant to this day. I admire his style and experience aesthetic pleasure from reading. Dostoevsky is a connoisseur of the Russian soul, I am surprised every time how it is possible to describe human feelings and emotions that are hidden very deeply so accurately and accurately.

No less important and favorite work for me is the story-parable written by Richard Bach, "A Seagull named Jonathan Livingston".A sermon on self-improvement and self-sacrifice, a manifesto of boundless spiritual freedom. Spiritual freedom is what I would like to have in this life. This book is the cry of the soul of every person who understands this world at least a little. For me, Jonathan Livingston is the embodiment of the ideal of a strong, independent personality, loving life in all its manifestations. Rereading this book, each time I discover something new that fills me, frees me and gives me strength for further accomplishments. Books are supposed to do just that - inspire. Literature inspires me to good deeds, love for people, gives me hope for a better outcome of events and teaches me to understand people.

The concept of true love I was given Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre. The most fantastic thing about her is not herself love story but the fact that the essence of any relationship lies in the ability to forgive and accept a person as he is, along with his past and his demons. Few people know how to truly forgive, the sediment from betrayal still remains in us and crawls out to the surface in the future. The strength lies in forgiveness. Re-reading this novel, I understand everything every time more essence words of forgiveness.

The mini-manifesto of love and vivid human feelings for me is an allegorical fairy tale Antoine de Saint-Exupery A little prince". A story about how important it is to keep a child in oneself and not to freeze in one's soul. Even the biggest epic novels can't tell you the vital content of this little book.“The most important thing is what you can’t see with your eyes ...”, said the Little Prince. Feelings are something that will always be higher and clearer than any spoken words.

Literature is mine small world, where you can hide from all the storms of life, and books are my friends who will always reassure, never betray, inspire hope. More great Anton Pavlovich Chekhov said:Everything in a person should be beautiful: the face, and clothes, and the soul, and thoughts ... ". literary works help us in this, making us beautiful on the inside, and if a person is beautiful on the inside, he is charming on the outside - this is an unchanging truth of life, the same as the law of a boomerang. Reading books, a person retires, finds time for reflection. Just don't confuse loneliness and. Loneliness for mepsychological, mental, solitude is physical. The first numbs, the second calms. Solitude leads to harmony with oneself, with one's mind, thoughts and feelings. Books help us in this, making us better, instructing us and reassuring us. When I read, I take a break from the daily routine, I can forget about everyday problems for a while and just enjoy reading. Literature is the best human invention that has ever existed.

The reformatting of culture also leads to the fact that literature goes into the background, and we can hardly predict how distant it is. Undoubtedly, they read less - and I think that the proportion of literature as such will change. Just like literature itself. Something is happening to her too: I remember how 30 years ago I first saw a comic book, a luxurious novel about mice. I looked at it in bewilderment, and my artist friend called it the books of the future. I snorted, but she was right. Our channels of perception are expanding, they are changing the direction of their work. Human creativity, of course, will remain, only a person will not write books. But in the drawings, as we know, a whole culture has grown.

Where there is contact between several arts, something new grows. When we saw the first films of Fellini, we realized that this is not cinema, but something else. Apparently, everything will be different. Wildly interesting! Please note that if 40 years ago science fiction was the main genre and we read Bradbury, now science fiction is of little interest: we live in the time that science fiction writers of the 20th century projected for us.

So I really want to record what is happening. I've been writing all my life notebooks. In recent years, these self-reports have become more interesting to me. I don't remember much anymore and can hardly remember what happened last week. Life is so intense and fast that there is not enough memory: I am not Dima Bykov. It even feels like I can't catch up with my own life.

Background: as a student of the philological faculty, I conducted a survey among classmates regarding literature: their preferences and volumes of reading for Last year. In 80% of cases, they blatantly lied to me in order to seem smarter, more educated, etc.

Today, reading has become a trend, which means things are bad. It is very difficult to choose a worthy book, because second-rate novels lie on the shelves with bestsellers, ratings are filled with rubbish, acquaintances are read out as dummies.

The book becomes something of an accessory. Readers for some reason think that they are doing something out of the ordinary.

In fact, reading has never been an indicator of the mind. Mind cannot be acquired, it is developed. If there is nothing to develop, you just need to be a good person.

If we separate the wheat from the chaff, then everything is simple - the book, as at all times, can serve as a source of information, but the information is so hidden by the plot and metaphors that not everyone can figure out what the salt is. Fiction shows us the history of mankind in all its splendor.

Why not a movie? There are a huge number of books that are more exciting than the latest films (especially cinema Lately more upsetting).

And finally: all archetypes, plots, conflicts, compositions were born in world literature, therefore, knowledge of this literature makes you an educated person: both a director and an astrophysicist should quote Milton, Bocaccio and Chekhov.
